“Absolutely delightful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2014

Stayed here for 3 days and it was very peaceful and quiet - only noise was the goat bells! Great views down the valley and really relaxing for a few days. This is a small property (15 rooms I believe) with an equally small (but very friendly and professional) staff. Yes it is a bit unusual ording your evening meal after breakfast but they have to prepare the meals for everyone and some dishes clearly need to be in the oven for some time. I would rather do that and get good food than some quickly microwaved dish! So it is rather quaint but adds to the charm. The pool is also little small - best for cooling off rather than serious swimming - and tended to be used by couples in turn. Generally no more than 3 or 4 couples around the pool at any time. This is a lovely experience for (I would suggest) couples looking for peace a quiet and relaxation. I wouldn't recommend it for children though. And the village is quite remote so you need a car to go anywhere. Overall lovely and we plan to return one day.

We stayed at this beautiful place for the third time in June '14' , on this occasion with my sister and her husband. We were delighted to find that nothing had changed - as perfect as ever. We all enjoyed the new wine tasting evenings held twice weekly. Marc described us as his rabbits but I hope he meant guinea pigs! These were great opportunities to meet other guests. We love this place for many reasons, not least the wonderful people who look after you.

We stayed at the Finca in early July in a superior room without terrace in the main house. The room was split level and spacious with the well equipped bathroom on the upper level. The Finca's grounds are smaller than depicted in the website photographs, although they are well kept and pleasantly laid out. The pool area is looking a little tired though and again, smaller that the photographs show; and this is the only hotel we have stayed in where the pool is not cleaned every day. It took a week to remove the rubbish from the bottom of the pool; not really a concern for us, but indicates a level of care. Sun beds were available and comfortable, with a number of sun shades. An honesty fridge with cool drinks at the back of the pool was a nice touch. The food was good albeit portion size a little small; and it seemed rather unusual to have to order your evening meal in advance within restricted seating times. This did fall apart on occasion when everyone ignored the timings, resulting in it taking an hour to receive the first course. The menu was reasonable, but not as good as the Mandala Restaurant adjacent to the Finca where the food was excellent and a little cheaper, and at which you could select from the menu as per a normal restaurant, no need to pre-order. Our first week was peaceful and quiet as mentioned by others which was one of the reasons we chose the Finca, but the second not so when a family arrived with noisy children. Being such a small hotel, one such family impacts disproportionately on the other guests. Their behaviour during the evening meals was more akin to a hotel in Magaluf than the Orient. Even the waiting staff looked on with concern as other guests did. We did ask the management for a change of room as we were adjacent to the family, but this was ignored, us having to request the same again the next day to another member of staff before being told it was not possible. The working staff at the Finca were lovely, finding the right balance between attentiveness and privacy, and our room was always cleaned to a high standard. Overall, ours was a positive experience, but the Finca lacks some organisational finesse and it's reliance on a fixed restaurant routine fails when the unexpected happens, and some managerial flair and responsiveness would not go amiss.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the main house.

I just love this place so much! It is simply perfect. It is now part of my annual holiday routine and that of my friends and family. It is hard to imagine how the finca gets better as it was just right even on my first visit, but Marc and his 'best staff ever' manage to add little touches to enhance your stay. The hotel has charm and elegance, yet is welcoming and homely. Even when it is fully booked there is space and peace for all. The rooms are superb and I have stayed in a range of them from standard to suite. The food is sublime and the local wine to die for! For us though it is Marc and his staff who make Finca Son Palou unique. It is lovely to see familiar faces and be greeted so warmly each year. I just wish I could keep this place a secret, but that wouldn't be fair!

I stayed here with my wife in June and found the hotel truly wonderful so much so I booked to come back with my mum for her 80th Birthday.

You always wonder when booking somewhere again wether it will be as good and the San Palou did not disappoint.

The rooms, the staff and the food just gets better and better if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing and somewhat self indulgent time then look no further this hotel in its simplicity and character really does tick every box.

Can't wait to return again.

Visited for 5 nights in early July and when booking part of me had wondered whether this was too long for a fairly isolated place. How wrong I was - we could easily have stayed for twice as long. The location is about 20 minutes from the main Palma-Soller road and after a twisting drive up the mountain pass you arrive in a charming valley surrounded by pastures, forests, small fincas and mountains either side (having a car here is essential). The hotel is located within the village itself in which there are a couple of other restaurants as previous visitors have mentioned before. The hotel has stunning views over the valley of Orient, beautiful grounds and lovely walks to follow in the local area from 30 minutes to 3 hours for the more ardent walkers. The rooms are very nicely appointed: we stayed in one of the larger studio rooms with a terrace which was just what we were looking for, but all rooms of all sizes seem equally charming and seems to me most if not all rooms have outdoor seating / loungers. The staff are delightful: very friendly, efficient and helpful, being very dedicated to the owner family and to making visitors feel welcome and special. Food is, as others have commented, very good indeed. Breakfasts are extensive with both continental and cooked menu on offer and this can be enjoyed in the lovely little patio area on the village side. Lunches and dinners are in the main dining area and with good summer weather we sat outdoors looking at the view always. Lunch is simple with snacks, salads and light meals on offer, dinner is more extensive with specials each day. Food is well presented and very delicious, wines enjoyable too. The pool area has been commented by some as being small, but for us this was perfect. Enough loungers for all and an honesty bar for the odd drink if required. We are not ones for sitting endlessly by the pool but the location, quietude and magnificent views meant we happily sat there for hours at a time with a book, dipping in for a swim every so often. There is nowhere walkable to get cash so be sure to bring this with you if needed, or drive to the local town of Alaro which is only 10 minutes away. Orient also does not have any shops, but again Alaro has these. There are 3 little restaurants in Orient, although 2 were closed in July for the summer holidays. We ate one night in Mandala which was excellent (separate review). In conclusion, Hotel Finca Son Palou is a really lovely place: be under no illusions this is a busy and 'happening' town, and I would not recommend this for families with children - they would be bored. However if you are looking for somewhere that offers extreme relaxation (my massage was good too!), beautiful scenery, absolute silence bar the sound of sheep bleating, dingle of sheep bells, trill of swifts in the air - then look no further. A really special place; we will most definitely return. Thank you to Marc, Olga and all at Son Palou.

Room Tip: Room 9 is one of the suites in the annexe area with a lovely big open living area and terrace. The v...

We stayed here with our young daughter as we wanted to get away from it all and the staff were so accommodating. The room was beautiful with a wonderful view. We had dinner most nights in the garden and the staff were so friendly and made special meals for our daughter so she could join us. The pool has one of the best views you are every likely to get from a pool. Orient is beautiful too.

Room Tip: We had a room with a terrace, which had an amazing view and was lovely to sit out on in the evening.
