Sol Guadalupe by Melia
Ranked #5 of 28 Hotels in Magaluf
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Just returned from 5 nights at the Sol Guadalupe after having 5 nights in Can Picafort.

Great to arrive at the hotel hot and sticky to discover great air con in the vast reception area.

Check in was very efficent and our room on the 4th floor overlooking the pool was one of the quieter rooms. Not the hotel's fault but there is a lot of noise through the night for the rooms at the back of the hotel. Not from the Sol guests ( Be warned any of you coming back from the strip in the wee hours making any disturbance - security are down on any rowdies like a ton of bricks) but from the hotel at the back.

Our room was very clean, but quite crowded with 3 beds. Also at first the 3rd bed was of an inferior folding type of mattress. However a word to reception and it was immediately changed to a proper bed.- very comfy. Bathroom was also a bit of a squeeze. Not sure how a larger person would get in and out the the bath/shower. Aircon was quiet and efficent - a must in the heatwave.

Food was excellant - the whole layout of the restaurant is very good, tables not too close together and you are escourted to a table rather than having to wander about looking for one at night..The food is of a very high standard with plenty of variety and replaced regularly. The only exception to this is Pedro who is in charge of fried eggs and omelettes at breakfast. There was always a massive queue for both, and if he moved any slower then he would have stopped. He would see a big queue for fried eggs, but would slowly crack about 5 eggs into his pan - even though there were more people than that in the queue - then abandon them to slowly start an omelette - people could then watch them overcooking whilst he took no notice at all. On two occasions they were absolutely in edible - I took to scrambled instead - at least they were supposed to be cooked through. Management - please note.

Pool area fantastic - plenty of beds and parasols. Reserving does go on - but not until 8.30. when management open the doors to the pool area. However we did notice several times that some people were reserving beds first thing and did not come to them at all - all day - how unfare is that. There are quite a number of staff and lifeguards around the pool all day and they shold not allow such blatent hogging of beds. There are pools specially for children which are great for all ages and stops the main pool being clogged up with ball games. Please note that inflatables are not allowed in the main pool.

Location is good - just far enough from the strip so you cannot hear it, and just a couple of mins walk to the beach and a large selection of bars/restaurants etc. Lots of people have recommended Manos across the road, but it was virtually empty every night with music so lound you couldn't hear yourself talk.

Entertainment at the hotel was good - loved the 'Beatles' and the magic show.

Really enjoyed our holiday. However the hotel was only 2/3rds full so only hope they keep up the service at peak capacity.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a pool view - it is a lot quieter.

The hotel is very clean, the rooms were cleaned daily and also the towels were changed. The sheets were changed 3times in a 7 night stay and the elevators are working very well. The food was very good: lots fruits and vegetables , traditional dishes (try ensiamada, it's nice), show cooking, lots of meat (lamb , pork, turkey, chicken), fish and sea food, pizza, pasta ,almost everything. At dinner drinks are charged. Actually they had a nice sangria wine at the hotel. The pool is very nice and big. There's only a bad side. A big part of the hotel was near some cheap hostels (sol y mar or smth like this) and I saw that there were a lot of very noisy teens , large speakers on the balcony, if you have sleeping problems or just want a quiet stay, definetly ask for a pool view room. The pool rooms at higher floord also have partial sea view. Magalluf is very crowded, there are loads of british teens, they are just noisy, they won't bother you at all. If you don't like these kind of resorts, I suggest palma nova instead of magalluf. The beach in Magalluf is very good, with very clean water and there are alos water sports. Rent a car and visit : beaches: es trenc, sa rapita , cala pi, sa calobra and towns : Palma, Valdemossa, Soller and Bayanbufar (with spectacular panoramic views). Definetly insure your rented car, otherwise you'll pay for scrathces, we found ours scrathced 2 times, it's a common happening in Mallorca.

Room Tip: Rooms with pool view and higher floors are quieter!

Me and my family,Wife and-two Daughters, year old,14 year old have just returned from a 10 day holiday in magaluf which we really enjoyed.
The Hotel is excellent, spotlessly clean throughout ,food is also excellent, something for everyone and of good quality, everyday there was something new, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stop there.
Also there is entertainment on through the day, with activities to do in and out of pool which were good and entertainment on every-night.Lifts going to different floor levels very quick.
The hotel itself is in a great position, not to close to the busy, STRIP,BCM,which really livens up on a night time with party goers.
There is also a good bus service outside the hotel to get you around parts of island if you want to go anywhere.

Room Tip: Family room,Mid to High floor Level,Pool/Seaview

Yet another great stay. Night Entertainment was brilliant, good with the children. All staff polite and helpful. Maid service was good. Food was buffet style and there was something to suit everyone. Room was comfortable with free fridge and tv. Towels changed daily. Plenty of sunbeds at the pool side with no need to reserve. Good location near local bus route.

just got back from a week here and as always top class hotel yes you do have to pay 10 euros a night for a front facing pool view as i have stayed at the front before decided not to pay and try a room at the back and see what all the fuss is about well all i can say is ear plugs would be a good idea we was on 4th floor opposite the sol y vera i dont return to hotel early bout midnight very noisy partying shouting swearing and it wasnt the british lads it was other nationalitys i saw a chair being thrown from balcony i no what magaluf is like and i fully understand young ones want to party been there done that got the t shirt (and i had balcony door shut) good points to staying at the back its cool in the evenings sunny in morning i still had a fab time and would defo stay here again but would pay for a pool view as i think it is just a better place to be to look out on that fab pool
the hotel is in lower magaluf away from the strip sunbeds every day but you do have to be up to get them (about half 8) manos bar is opposite great family friendly bar and not to far to fall after a sangria or 2
pirates adventure is a awesome show a must see 10 mintes walk at bottom of road western water park is 20 mins walk and a good fun day out before you leave dont forget to book half price return tickets at park
food was good and plenty of choice even for the most fussy eater (IE grumpy teenager)
beach is 10 mins walk away
lots to do during the day keep fit in the pool water polo magic carpet kids pool with beds a parasols and a play park great hotel for familys
last word is please dont be put off by the reviews regarding the back of hotel rooms that is something that the hotel is not responsible for after all remember you are in magaluf and it is a party destination

Room Tip: pool views are the best rooms and worth the 10 euros a night extra back rooms are fine but you will...

Excellent location, close enough to walk to the main nightlife and beach but far enough away to enjoy peace and relaxation. Room was very clean and had everything we needed. Staff could have been more friendly but not to the extent it put us off. Breakfast was brilliant, buffet style with loads of choice and constantly replacing items which were running low. I would without a doubt return to this hotel again.
