“Lluc Monastery”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2012

We stayed here for 2 nights in May 2012 and found it great value for money. Our room was clean, tho spartan, and had a great view over the roof of the monastery. We ate one night in the refectory and were very pleased with our meal. The other night we dined in an adjacent restaurant. We visited the area for hiking purposes and were well pleased with the number and variety of trails.

I'm not quite sure what to say about this place, given its uniqueness! As other reviewers suggest, the monastery can get really busy, especially on weekends in summer, because it's a popular place for a family day trip. But when I was there in late September it was fairly quiet, especially in the evenings. The rooms are huge because they used to be dorms -- mine had four single beds in it. Some have six, I believe, but they don't put other people in with you unless you've booked with a group. At least, I hope they don't! Furnishings are pretty much what you'd expect for a monastery -- basic, clean, and functional. The beds were comfortable. No hair dryer or soap or other facilities. My room had heating, but it wasn't on in September -- I imagine the place could get chilly in colder weather.

Within the grounds there are several restaurants, which all seemed fine. There are a couple of little shops where you can buy food for picnics, wine, and necessities like shampoo. There's also a really good pharmacy with a lot of homeopathic/herbal products.

The key here is probably to manage your expectations. If you've stayed at any of the Spanish paradors, especially the historic ones as opposed to the modern variety, it's like a cross between a youth hostel and a parador. With a large church in the middle and big crowds at weekends.

In all, an interesting and perfectly OK place to stay for a couple of nights, especially if you're hiking in the area.

If your looking for a luxury hotel your missing the point, don’t expect to find it here, if your looking for some of the most beautiful scenery then this is the place. LLuc is a place of retreat a place to discover the countryside and mountains of mallorca. And if you want a challenge then you can walk to the highest point that you can walk to on the island Puig Massenella 1,382 metres 18km 6 hour walk.

The accommodation is basic we have stayed in a two bedroom apartment one double bedroom, one single bunk beds, and a three bed apartment 3 double bedrooms. Both had a separate lounge and kitchen fitted with cooker and fridge. Please note you need to bring everything with you plates cups pans kettles food. The kitchen has nothing except a cooker fridge and cupboards. The bedding clean sheets, old pillows and blankets, so again bring your own pillows duvets. No air con but heating in each room electric fire is fine.
Lluc has many restaurants and bars if you don’t want to cook the best is inside the main building, serving basic breakfast nothing hot for 6 euros lunch and dinner, good mallorcian cooking steaks chicken etc. Good service and good selection of wines.

So if you want to discover the real mallorca come and stay here just bring all your home comforts with you great value in low season three bed apartment sleeps six for 75 euros per night or two bed for 50 euros per night. They also have dorm rooms sleeping six/twelve very cheap.

First of all the good points; due to very bad storms I decided to skip the 2 day hike and took the bus from porto soller to Lluc. Bus journey was stunning and the extreme weather (huge hail stones at altitude) made it even more memorable. It really felt like man against nature getting there!
I arrived just as the daily bus tours were leaving - a definite plus. The interior of the building was very unique. The chapel was also quite special - local people taking mass etc (choir was sadly on holiday). The exterior of the building and courtyards are very beautiful, and the gardens and hilltop walks are really something. Nice coffee in one of the cafes too.
Bad points!!!! Staff at reception are less than useless; very unfriendly and no language skills - I speak 4 European languages, sadly not Catalan or Spanish which meant I was treated with utter contempt.
The windows in my room didn't close properly, which meant room had puddles on the floor and was chilly. I had to cover myself in itchy (no doubt never been cleaned) hospital-style blankets. The bed was very rickety and old.
Too many families!!! Who would have thought that parents would take their children to a monastery where there is nothing but walks?? Well, there was a lot of them, running around, playing with brought-along toys, screaming (even in the chapel!). For a place that sells itself as a place of pilgrimage and retreat they really shouldn't let young children stay.
Was awoken at 6:45 with horrendous noise - turned out staff were moving furniture in the adjacent room, but due to nature of the building, the noise was magnfied to an unbearable level. There seems to be far too many disgruntled, uniformed-staff milling about in general - makes the place feel like some kind of weird detention centre and again detracts from this idea of it being a place of reflection and spiritalism.
Overall, the stunning scenery and architecture makes up for a pretty unpleasant experience, and I'm glad I only stayed one night!

My friend and I were excited to stay here! Upon arrival, we delt with a rude and unhelpful nasty little man. Also, a staff member there the night before lied to us and we were stuck because the receptionist clerk the next day was unwilling to help fulfill what was told to us by a different staff. We literally almost left but my friend felt a little ill so we stayed.
The room was big and clean overall. No fan. No air flow and only one tiny window, but overall, it was not bad.. Esp for the price!
Checkout was at 1030 am, and around 10 am, a cleaning lady came banging on the door telling us we had to go because she had to clean. We reconfirmed that check out was at ten THIRTY and she said yes, but that she had to clean so we had to leave now.
Um... ??? Overall, there is NO WAY I would go back there.
A solution? Stay in Inca or even Palma! The bus trip is 25 min from Inca and about 60 from Palma. 3.50-4 euro for the trip.
There is a little cafe on the corner where the staff is really helpful and friendly.
You travel, you learn...

We stayed there 1 night. Rooms are spacious and very clean. Beautiful scenery. It's worth to visit the museum and botanic gardens. Great location and good value for money. Reception staff very friendly.

Stayed overnight here on a walk from Pollenca to Soller . It is very spartan - single iron beds (set miles apart just in case you were thinking....!!) thin towels and not even a tiny bar of soap provided. But for that amazing price what do you expect? The whole place was heaving with visitors when we arrived but by 5pm you could hear a pin drop in the courtyards. Had a good night's sleep behind heavily shuttered windows. The setting is fabulous and the walking in the area is fantastic. Staff were helpful in arranging our luggage to be taken by taxi to Soller while we walked. There are two resturants and a cafe on site to chose from - nothing to write home about but basic hearty fare that filled hollow legs nicely. Breakfast is not included.
