“Will be going back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2011

We booked this hostal after reading other reviews and spent a week here in October 2011.
As mentioned in other reviews the great things about the hostal are the food (we were half board and the breakfast and evening meals were brilliant value and we didn't leave a thing), the cleanliness of the hostal and the friendliness of Juan, his wife Francesca, Tone, Enrique and all of the other staff working there.

The location of Colonia de Saint Jordi is ideal as it is in something of an isthmus, and turning left or right out of the hostal leads you to the sea and long expansive beaches. The longer you walk on these beaches the more you hit the more naturalist areas. If this doesn't appeal, just dont walk as far. However near or far you go, the beaches are beautiful and the sea clear.

The rooms in the hostal are ensuite, have a TV, air con and like the rest of the place are immaculately clean and serviced daily. If you've got a lot of clothes with you, then perhaps they miss a set of drawers, but if that was to be a complaint then I think you need to look for 5 star accomodation in some awful complex somewhere!!!

If you're happy with low key, clean, quiet family run accomodation that serves lovely food and has a great gelateria and is set in a beautiful location then book up, otherwise go somewhere with pools, hordes of people and impersonal service elsewhere.

We'll be back next year (something we have never done - repeat visits).

Fantastic position near to es trenc - the town is quiet and friendly - if you want an independent holiday away from all the tourist packages and the masses of drunken tourists then this is the place for you. Juan and his family are incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are great = lots of choice. Rooms are basic but clean, all have tv, shower, etc.Great value for money. I would certainly go again. Can be a bit noisy at night as rooms are over bar= remember the Spanish don't eat til late. If you like to sleep early , take some ear plugs. Its the only downside.

This great hostal is about 45 minutes walk to Es Trenc one of the most amazing (naturist) beaches I have ever seen (and I have been to a few of them). It's sounds quite far but for us it wasn't too bad. But there are many other non naturist beaches much closer to the hostal.

The hostal has 15 ensuite rooms with A/C TV impeccably clean (daily) and well presented.

We were a little nervous about binding ourselves to a ½ pension through the entire 2 week booking, but took the chance after reading other reviews here and it was the best decision!
4-course dinners were served each night, and the quality and the presentation is really good like the excellent breakfast.

Juan and his family is very nice and professional from start to finish and you can see his staff working incredibly hard for making the customers satisfied. I can't really reccomend this place enough.

If your vacation requires a high-rise hotel complete with a mausoleum lobby, swimming pool with never-ending rows of sun chairs, room TV, mini-bars, and Karaoke evenings, this is not the place for you.

If you are satisfied to live within walking distance of long white beaches and clear aquamarine seas and would like to experience all the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of the local life in a small Mallorcan vacation town, this may be just what your are looking for.

This little family run hostel has atmosphere that makes one feel welcome and at ease. The host Juan and his hardworking staff are friendly and informal and prepare and present their local produce and services with an obvious sense of pride. We were driven directly from the airport to our room by the hostels taxi service. This was a welcome start to a stress-free and relaxing vacation and characterized our entire stay.

The room was simply but comfortably furnished with air-conditioning, a small bathroom with shower and a little balcony overlooking the street. There was room service every day and we lacked nothing in our room during our stay. All in all, the accommodations were just what one needed, nothing more, nothing less.

We were a little in doubt if we should bind ourselves to a ½ pension through the entire 2 week booking, but took the chance since the price seemed very reasonable. We did not regret our choice. 4-course dinners were served each night, and we would have been more than satisfied if we had only gotten the tasteful soups and excellent salads to these prices. Our favourites were the 2 nights each week with special Mallorcan dinners. We always looked forward to and enjoyed our evening meals, and the breakfasts were just as satisfying.

There are fine beaches flanking both sides of the town, but we found our favourite at the beach Es Carbo. That there are still uncrowded beaches like this in August /September (over 30° C every day) and only a 3 hour plane trip directly from our home in Bergen is almost not to be believed. A 5 minute walk from the hostel was the local harbour and a boat service that shuttled to the beach Es Carbo. The ride was about 10 minutes and we found that it was best to just take the boat out (5 euro per person) and walk back (about 35 minutes along the coast). It’s a warm walk, but you can always treat yourself to an ice cold cervesa on the veranda of Es Turos, right at the end of path to the town’s harbour beach. Remember to pack your rucksack with several bottles of water and something to give some shelter from the sun. There are no services at the beach Es Carbo.

We have both lived a good while and have experienced quite a few vacations over the years, but this one went over all expectations. Our verdict: A very fine place for a vacation and one that we will remember well and long.

We chose to book this break as independent travelers in order to avoid the mainstream holiday resorts and sample the true flavour of this lovely island. We were delighted to have chosen this accommodation as it is family run with the help of local employees who were without exception polite, professional, friendly and helpful in every respect. We booked two weeks half-board. The buffet breakfasts were plentiful and varied, while the evening meals provided an array of local dishes without repeat throughout the fortnight. The accommodation was fairly basic but scrupulously clean; there was no TV or hairdryers for example, but two comfortable rocker chairs, air conditioning and an en suite toilet with shower (and plenty of hot water). The hostal is located within a 3 minute walk of the main port and beach promenade where there is a good selection of bars and restaurants; 50 metres walk to the local supermarket, and within easy reach of a variety of quality shopping. We arrived with hired car, and while there is no on site parking, there was ample room on the adjacent streets. It was a delight to spend two weeks here during the Euro 2008 football tournament (which Spain won,in case it had escaped your notice!) and yet escape the the drunkenness often associated with such activities - no drunks, no discos, no apparent crime or litter . There are better appointed hotels in the area, but you'll be hard pressed to beat the friendliness and value for money - we'll certainly consider another visit.
