Amazing, honestly a great plate of food for 2 with wine for under 50 euros whats not to like. Yes all the previous reviews say it all about location, service etc. Go with the flow, as we did and enjoy the experience!

If it wasn’t for all the positive things that has been written here on TripAdvisor, we would never had stopped since the place looked closed down.
But we are so happy we did. After a lovely lunch with lasagna and pasta bolognese and great Rioja house wine we booked a table for dinner. When we arrived Friday at 8 pm we realized that every table was reserved and while we had our dinner at least 20 people had to turn and walk away at the door.
This place is something very special, lovely smiling owners which I think was father and son.
And the food outstanding!!

I thought I was ready, but I wasn’t quite. Often the no frills places are the best to seek out and Il Gamberetto has less than no frills. From the general closed up look, to the plastic patio chairs and tables, paper table cloths and the fact that you need a key for the loo which is round the street corner and the door had previously been crowbarred! The chef/waiter/barman does it all, and very very slowly - but hey he walks slowly! It was like a scene from Little Britain. This sounds like a negative review it isn’t but you need to be ready for all that. The food is so worth waiting for it’s not true - fresh black pasta with huge prawns, smoked salmon and spinach for me, hubby has the best lasagne of his life. All that with brushchetta and a heavenly Rioja for €36 who needs frills? Amazing!

My hubby and I like to visit local bars etc, and although this is Italian food in a Spanish town , it is a very local place .

It's located just by the KFC and the hotel El CID

We had read all previous reviews and without any major expectations we thought we would bite the bullet and try .

Now as others have said , this place is a small fabricated hut type place , with plastic chairs and tables and probably holds about 18 people . We had read that you should ignore the surroundings and the fact that it looks like an old closed place .

But We read that you should also reserve a table , so we attempted it by speaking to the lovely old Italian man , who is the chef !! And who could not speak a word of English ... but why should he !! We couldn't speak Italian .
We knew a few words , and with that and a few hand gestures and pointing to times on the window . We hoped for the best that we had reserved for later that night ... 8.30

We decided to arrive before our reservation , just in case he didn't understand and we where so glad we did as there was a queue building outside , the rickety sliding door .

The son of the chef recognised us and sat us at our table which had been marked with a little note ... 8.30 x2
We noted that all the other tables also had siimilar notes on . And the odd name .

Most of the menu was easy enough to understand , so we oredered a lasagne and tagliatelle negro gambas . ... black pasta with prawns .

I tried to order garlic bread , but this never came .
The wine was lovely and wrapped in a frozen ice wrap to keep it cold . And was only 12€ for the bottle , though we seen it later the next day in the supermarket for 3.75€ ... hee hee

Anyway ... the food was to die for !!! You could tell it was authentic , very fresh and absolutely a bargain !!!

I then asked for tiramisu, as I had read about that too , but the guy just laughed and shook his head . .. hee hee

We went back the next day , but it was chocca with locals having Sunday lunch and was closed that evening . Which was a great shame as we where leaving for home

We will definitely visit again and you should too if you love Italian food .

I’m so glad we managed to eat here, especially after reading it’s often very busy! The food was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes are very generous for the mains too. The interior is very simple but don’t be put off by this as the food is amazing and very well priced.
