“Definitely not 4 star”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We stayed for one week from 28th October 2012. We booked through lowcostholidays.com. Flight with Ryanair was the usual lacking in customer service. We booked reserved seats on the plane and on both the outward bound and inward bound flights we found the flight staff giving our seats away and we had to ask for people to move. So although you have reserved seats, Ryanair staff are happy to give them away if you're not at the front of the queue to claim them...abysmal!

Ca'n Pastilla is less than a 20 mins coach journey from the airport so it was nice to be booking in the hotel and unpacked within an hour of departing the airport. The Hotel is in a good location with the beach in front of the hotel and overlooking a lovely bay with a small marina.

Reception staff we found very helpful and friendly. We booked a room with a sea view and it was worthwhile paying the little extra for the view although the drawback was traffic noise. Our room was overlooking the main road where coaches would drop off and pick up residents of the hotel. This was not too bad but in the early hours of the morning the drumming of an old diesel engine which can be clearly heard in your room was irritating. The room were basic but clean....no tea or coffee making facilities are provided. The decor of the rooms especially the bathroom are in dire need of updating.

The rest of the hotel is decorated in tiled walls and floors so not looking too bad. Outside the hotel was a patio area which ran around outside the hotel and was a perfect place to sit in the sun.

The restaurant was a source of disappointment as the food was not great. In line with other reviewers I can confirm that the food is generally cold or lukewarm at best. There was no warming of plates and the only chance of obtaining anything hot was from the freshly cooked counter where meats or fish was being offered. However any vegetables that you subsequently put on your plate were lukewarm. The variety of food on offer was geared towards the continental taste but that did not concern me I was happy to find something palatable. Unlike some reviewers I did find the staff friendly and helpful.

In terms of the bar and its staff; I was on AI and all drinks are served in plastic (less than half pint) containers. You only served a drink in a glass if you were actually handing over money for it. Whilst the serving of drinks in plastic containers was in the evenings disappointing with having to make several trips to the bar due to the size of the containers. There was an advantage during the day as you are able to take your drinks outside the hotel and walk along the promenade or sit on the benches enjoying the sun and the views whilst having a drink. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful especially the younger ones but the older members of the team were not so forthcoming with their pleasantries. The entertainment at night was not great and watch out for the €10 bingo tickets for a day at their own spa!

I took advantage of the excellent public transport service on taking trips. We caught the No.15 bus to Palma (€1.50) and then caught the Sightseeing Tour Bus which you can hop on and hop off and cost €14 each. It was a good way to see the city which is quite large. Another trip involved catching the No.30 bus to the Railway Station in Palma and taking the vintage train to Stoller and then the tram to Puerto de Stoller. The train and tram journey cost €28 each for the combination ticket and is worth doing for the views alone.

There is also a tourist train in the resort of Ca'n Pastilla which cost €4 each and it takes you to S'Arenal and back. The stop is just across the road from the hotel. There are lots of shops in Ca'n Pastilla for the ladies to browse and shop.

Would I go back to Ca'n Pastilla?.....I'm not sure...I have seen all I have to see there and it is a bit too quiet.

Would I go back to Hotel Las Arenas?....No I would not.....it is in a great location but the rest is less than great..

Just back from this hotel 10/11/12 the views are great, short journey from Palma Airport, that is the only thing that this hotel has going for it.
I would rate it 2 plus, the food was appalling we have been to many hotels on a 3 star basis and were treated like royality, you wont get that here, staff are rude in dining room, the food is very substandard, always cold, drink in the all inclusive package are all only their own cheap brands, we paid for a deluxe room with seaview, on arrival we were allocated a room looking at a wall ! 30 hrs later we got the room that we paid for.
Plastered up wall in corridors, old nylon shower curtains, old bath towels with a notice please use your towels 2-3 times before asking for clean ones, drinking water bottles being refilled by the waiters from the juice gun after being lifted from the meal tables, and stuck in fridge with the old lids put back on. No entertainment ever, no snacks were ever presented. THE ONLY WAY THIS HOTEL GOT ITS STARS IS BECAUSE OF THE VIEW. Would never recommend this hotel !

Room Tip: Front seaview/marina would be a must for this hotel.

The pictures for the hotel are very misleading. Yes it is a very good location, but if you are booked in as all inclusive, you are treated as less than a second class citizen. Plastic glasses are provided for your drinks, no coffee and tea facilities in the room, and to top it off, if you ask for water at the bar you are given a plastic cup full. The cheapest wine is served to you in the restaurant, although, this is served in a glass, whoopee. Food cold, desserts, well what can I say, great if you are a child, jelly and ice cream, but plenty of fresh fruit. However, staff was pleasant, but most times in the restaurant you was ignored, on several occassions we had to set the table ourselves as they was busy, Goodness knows how they cope in peak season, it must be a free for all. Pool area, although we didn't use this facility it was on the small side, you could say it was an after thought. 30 sunbeds in total. Summer time must be a nightmare if you are not an early riser........Yes, I had already read about the rooms having thin walls, but my goodness they are paper thin. Pray that we are British and give thought to our neighbours when we are coming to our room at night, but please give us the same curtesy. We do not want to hear your interactions, just a pity we couldn't understand what people fallout about, you are on vacation.

The Hotel Las Arenas in C'an Pastilla professes to be a 4 star hotel but we would disagree. We believe the only 4 star quality this hotel posesses is its location to the beach and surrounding area in C'an Pastilla as it was situated in an very enviable spot.

We stayed in Las Arenas in September 2012 for 10 nights. On arrival we found the outside seating area very pleasant . The foyer of the hotel and inside bar area we found to be quite dated and bland not much atmosphere. On arrival we were given a key for a room on the second floor. The room, although clean, was very dull and overlooked a corner area of the pool which faced a blank white painted wall. The following morning we asked to be moved and were given a room on the third floor overlooking a side street which was fine. The corridors in the hotel are like a maze and very very narrow. The problem with the alternative room lay in the fact that the room had an adjoining room (these type of rooms seem to be quite common in the Las Arenas) and our neighbours were party animals who kept us awake all night.with arguing and then making up- the walls are paper thin!! When we complained the receptionist seemed to be doing his best to accommodate us but apparently there were no other rooms, he told us to try each morning which we did a couple of times and then gave up as our neighbours then left.

The dinning room however was quite pleasant . We booked for half board. The breakfast was the better of the two meals of the day. The food in the evening was generally cold and not very appetising with really poor desert choices.

We booked through 'On the Beach' and on their site it led one to believe that the Las Arenas had a room full of bikes for hire, spa facilities, sauna and gym but what they didn't say was that these facilities were down the street in a sister type hotel, The Nautico. Also on this site the hotel swimming pool and sun area looked quite large when in actual fact the pool was tiny and the sun area would hold approximately one dozen people! Also some of the other photos showed on this site were not to be found.

On the whole we did have a good holiday the weather was very good. We would certainly go back to C'an Pastilla and the convenience to Palma was wonderful but we would not go back to the Las Arenas.

Location excellent vis a vis beach and Palma.
Hotel showing signs of overuse, consequently staff too busy to be helpful.
In general staff unhelpful except for one very nice receptionist.
Supplies/facilities in rooms varied from room to room.
Food generally cold unless you lucky to coincide with fresh cooking of meat/fish.
Luggage storage facility grossly inadequate.

Room Tip: Sea view would be nice and depending on time of year aspect(sof roomun)

Booked through Limerick Travel on a half board basis. On arrival had no room for us, so were transferred (by foot at midnight) to their sister hotel and told to come back in the morning. Room in sister hotel (Nautic) overlooked appartments opposite, some 15m away. Awful. Eventually was allocated a room in Las Arenas at 1pm following day, so thought all was OK. Went down for dinner that evening at the allocated time, only to be told we had to wait 20 mins for a table. We subsequently found that 90% of the guests were German who queue for 20+ mins before the doors opened. All the dinner food was geared to German tastes, as was the breakfast offerings. Their restaurant ambiance is akin to a works canteen in the 1960's - low ceiling, no outlook and cramped. After the second night we gave up and went to the local Mallorcan restaurants for the following 12 days, great food. Room adequate and clean. Pool area small, little sun, no outlook.

Room Tip: 4th floor numbers 408 and higher - we were in 408 and had a reasonable sea view. Quiet, but dependan...

This was a return visit to this hotel after a very enjoyable stay 2 years ago.
Once again the hotel and staff are very pleasant and helpful.
The location couldnt be better..
The resort is good .Loads of cafes bars and shops
Not far from Palma which is a lovely city to visit and explore.
The tourist train is a good way to get about at 4euros .
Only to criticism is that the hotel restaurant perhaps could do better to warrand 4* status
Breakfast was fine .
Lunch and dinner disappointing although everything on offer was well cooked.
Also very crowded on occasions and difficult to find a table.but must add that although the staff were run off their feet they were always polite and did their best to help.

Room Tip: ask for high floor and sea view rooms are worth the extra charge
