I stayed in this hotel from 16th to 19th August 2012. We had never been to Palma before so opted to get a taxi to hotel Alexandra this took approximately 8 mins and cost 12 euros the driver adds on 4 euro as a tax before you ven leave so if I was you jump on the number 21 bus it will cost you 2.50 euro per person. On arrival to the hotel first impressions were good the outside looked well maintained and clean and the inside was immaculate! On checking in at 14.30pm we were told our room was not ready and apologised to the reason was that the previous occupants had paid for a late check out and had only just vacated the room and the maid needed time to clean it. We were given a key for the luggage room to stow our luggage so we put it in and had a look around the hotel. It really is a lovely hotel, so clean and modern fom it's new refurbishment, The pool area is beautiful with comfy sun loungers as well as double bed type ones the pool is big enough with a separate children's area and a poolside bar to purchase drinks, snacks and ice cream from. Looking over the back area of the pool it overlooks a beautiful sandy beach within a bay access to this is by walking down steps to the left side of the pool and it's right in front of you. There are also a huge promenade of shops and restaurants that lead you all along the coast. Once our room was ready we went up in the lift, they are small lifts and there are only 2 so at busy times we had to wait as we had a 2 year old and a buggy and as on floor 5 the stairs were not possible. our room was 517 it was not a room with a pool or sea view but was sufficient, clean and modern with a balcony and fridge we had free satalite tv but only English channels were bbc news. A friendly maid cleaned the room daily and supplied fresh towels The only thing I can fault about this hotel was the food and the customer service we encountered. The food was disgusting!!! We are not fussy eaters and really are not ones to complain we have eaten at many 3 star hotels were people had been moaning about the food and we couldn't see why but here it really is bad and many other guests we spoke to had the same view.We paid for half board so had breakfast and dinner included without room. The breakfast was bearable and had a wide option of pastries, cereals, toast, fruit, juices and tea, coffee included and English breakfast where a chef fries eggs, the meat is very poor quality though and just the look put me off it. Dinner times were a car crash!!! Tables were not ready just left with no cutlery on the first night we had to ask for cutlery for our table but was just pointed over to where they were and told to get it ourselves. The food choice was very poor quality and what we tried we couldn't swallow! I asked for a pepsi from a waitor and he forgot i ended up going without! The desserts were very bland not a lot of selection and the ice creams were nearly empty. We ended up going out for a meal and paying that evening. The 2nd night we thought we would give the food another chance, looked and walked straight back out, it was worse than the previous night a poor quality selection and hardly anything left at 9pm. I did feel ath is point it needed addressing as this was the 2nd night we were having to leave the hotel for our evening meal. I spoke to the receptionist and explained that the food was not the quality I would of expected from a 4 star hotel nd explained we had paid half board and were having to go out and buy an evening meal as the food was terrible, she did apologise and took our room number but no one got back to us and on the 3rd night we didn't even bother looking in the restaurant we went straight out for a meal. Hotel Alexandra the food really does need improving it is not 4 star quality it is 2 star! We did 2 trips whist we were here 1st to marineland and 2nd to aqualand we booked marineland via a excursion company on the seafront which included return ouch journey and caught the number 23 bus ourselves there and back to aqualand which only cost 1.25 euro per person each way and took approx 25mins. Another way to sight see is by going on a little mini train which runs along the seafrontto Palma centre and back it runs every 30 mins and only costs 4euros return per person and you can hop off and back on once. It picked us up from the stop outside the little arcade on the left as you come out of the steps I front of the beach. We would return to this hotel due to the perfect location and modern, clean facilities but we would only return on a bed and breakfast basis and not eat at the hotel any other meal times. When leaving for the airport catch the number 21 bus it's so much cheaper than a taxi and takes only 5 minutes. If you are staying at this hotel you will not be disappointed by it apart from the food in my eyes it is the only thing that is holding it back and needs to be improved drastically.
