“Relaxing week. Nice Hotel excellent location but could have been better.”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

We stayed at this hotel nearly 30 years ago (it was called the Playa D'or then) and were interested to see how it had changed over the years. Sad to say that although it is now a modern contemporary hotel it was a little disappointing. The location is fantastic, it is only 10 mins transfer from the airport, literally across the road from a very spacious beach and during the day there are plenty of shops and restaurants to go to. We were given a room that overlooked the courtyard and also at least 5 other rooms. the balcony was tiny with really uncomfy seats no armrest on them just a seat, no table and one of the things that is good about a holiday is going back to the hotel and having a a drink and read on the balcony having a good look at whats going on outside. The air conditioning was very effective needed it as it was really hot when we were there. The staff quarters were also quite near and there was a dog constantly barking, just hope he wasn't distressed. Our room was spacious and very clean but the decor although modern was very dingy. It had large comfortable beds and linen changed frequently and towels changed everyday, the housekeeping staff were the only really friendly staff at the hotel.. What was a bit disconcerting about the room was when you were in the bathroom you were able to hear everything going on in one of the neighbour's bathrooms, It was almost like we were all in the same bathroom. They weren't English speaking otherwise we could have quite easily joined in their conversation.
The food was very good in the evening lots of choice and well laid out,but breakfasts were a shambles. We went out of season so don't know whether the hotel was full or not but everyday there was a queue for cooked breakfasts. The breakfast chef was constantly letting items run right out and not replacing them straight away so the husband, who loves his cooked breakfast, was coming back with cold items that should have been hot on his plate cos he'd had to wait for the chef to replenish stocks. I know this sounds a bit silly but its not what you expect from a 4* hotel. Apart from 2 waitresses, one of whom had lived in Spain all her life but her mum was from Liverpool originally and spoke English with a proper scouse accent, the restaurant staff were not polite and a bit unwelcoming really. Bar staff especially in the evening, apart from one older man, were just awful they would leave you sitting for ages before coming to take your order wasn't used to that atall. However all public and lounge areas spacious, clean and comfortable.
The roof terrace pool was ok a bit small but didn't find it too cold but the beds were an absolute disgrace, they were filthy and badly ripped. This was a shame because there were lovely views from the terrace and absolutely lots of space to put the sunbeds. There was a bar by the pool but most times not staffed, and again tables and chairs with fabulous views but no bar staff. Again you just do not expect this in 4* accommodation. However the beach and the sea were fab and so close aswell. We did have a good holiday though and it is in a good location. Think if we had gone more in season there would have been more choice to go out at night for a drink...alot of the bars that were open in the day shut at night during the time we were there. We also met a lot of lovely people who were also holiday. I do think the hotel could be really fantastic with a few tweaks to the decor, replace the sunbeds by the pool and staff the pool bar regularly, customer service training for the staff, their role models should be the housekeeping staff!!! and employ an extra breakfast chef.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel, they have lovely spacious balconies and fantastic views.

Hotel Nautic ticked a number of boxes for us as we wanted a quick break before winter. Firstly it was close to both Palma and the airport, secondly it was on the seafront and thirdly it offered family accommodation - with just a week break, we preferred a hotel to an apartment.

The hotel is clean, efficient and well located. Within 2 or 3 minutes of the doorstep are at least 10 restaurants that meet your needs and a promenade walk that goes on for miles! Rooms are fine with large bathrooms and balcony. Firm beds may not suit some people but we love them.

There is a spa in the hotel offering all the services you require to chill out. The lobby area is restful.

Our rate was very good and included buffet breakfast. The buffet ticks all the boxes for 99% of the population - cooked and continental breakfast. The ONLY downside were the breakfast juices. The apple was fine but the orange and pineapple juices were just 90% sugar and horrible. Not what you expect in Spain. Change them and you get 5 out of 5!

We used the in-house free Wi-Fi all week without a problem. The internet café style PCs (which we did not use) seemed expensive at €1 for 15 minutes. €1 an hour seems more competitive today.

If you have rented your own car, parking can be a challenge, but you will find free street parking after a few minutes driving about.

All in all a lovey spot for a short break with easy access to the city of Palma, the beach and eating out. Happy to recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea. All rooms are good but the ones facing the sea just have that little...

This hotel looks very contempory and the public areas are kept very nice and clean. The restaurant was very good. Breakfast was OK. On the down side - the beds were very, very hard and the walls must be very thin, because we could hear what was going on in the rooms around us - day and night! The bathroom in our family room was not as clean as it could have been, but the chambermaids were very friendly. In "off-season" there was very little to do for children under 16, because the roof top pool (which looks fantastic) is unheated and only useful when it is very hot. Children under 16 are not allowed to use the spa and gym facilities.

Room Tip: There is one room next to the pool on the fifth floor, which seems to have a sea view and should be...

Family and self spent a night here on the way to Alcudia and were very impressed with the family room (size in particular). Television channels available was quite dreadful though with no DVD playing facilities. Staff very friendly. Breakfast (my favourite meal of the day!) though was quite disappointing.....it looked good on the surface but the quality was not. The hot breakfast options were particularly tasteless and lacking in any flavour. The roof top pool area has a fantastic view but not suitable for young children....we felt like we had entered a library and that our children would break the silence so we retreated to the beach instead. We had booked half board and although I admit we did not ask there was no mention of it on our check in or information as to what it actually covered. Pleasant enough stay in a fantastic location but were happy to leave and go to our apartment to really relax.

Having read some of the recent reviews for this hotel and resort I was fairly apprehensive about arriving for a 3 day trip earlier this week. However when I arrived at this stylish hotel in a great location to a very friendly and professional welcome I wondered if this was the same hotel that attracted the negative comments. Our reservation was processed quickly and we went up to our room on the top floor-we had booked a suite ( at a very reasonable price ) and asked for a sea view. The room or rooms was fantastic. We actually had a very good clean bedroom with plenty of space, a fully tiled bathoom with walk in power shower and also a room above with a raised sofa area, tv and fantastic panoramic views out to sea. The best however was the massive balcony with table and chairs and two top of the range padded recliners and views to the marina and sea. I did however see the reason some people were unhappy with their room as quite a few did face directly into each other in a dark courtyard. Also on our floor was direct access to the lovely pool area and bar/cafe which was great to relax and take in the sun. Breakfast in the hotel was absolutely fine although tailored to the mainly German visitors. The location overall was great as the hotel was in the centre of the resort nd a few minutes to the main beach which was clean with crystal clear water. The resort is what it is although certainly not as tacky as some make out. There are a few good places to eat, plenty of decent bars and cafes and places to watch the sun go down. We would certainly go back to the resort and definitely to Il Nautic.

Room Tip: Book a suite or at the very least a room facing outward. Specifically state you do not want a room f...

Read reviews but was hoping they were exaggerating - most weren't! I booked a Junior Suite for our 25th wedding anniversary expecting a glimpse of the sea at the very least - this turned out to be a dark room, no windows in room or bathroom, just small patio door leading to a balcony that you could just stand side by side on - the suite part was because it had a small settee on one wall!! I explained was our anniversary so Receptionist did a lot of talking in Spanish to what looked like a Manager, she wasn't bothered and not once did she make eye contact with me. I was given a key to a different room to look at which turned out to be for disabled access cos I'd also moaned about the lack of a dedicated shower, this was bigger and had windows but meant had to duck to get your hair wet in shower because of height required for wheel chair users. Also had a balcony with two 'plastic' chairs on so swapped just to get a bit more room. Unfortunately because of internal view again, couldn't open curtains cos you're overlooked by rooms opposite so, due to the very poor lighting (usual these days it seems in hotels), spent whole time in semi-darkness. Air con was poor but because of 'camp' beds you could easily move them so pushed them under the unit so could feel it! Hotel is in two parts and this side was like a furnace, no air con in corridors or lift which would be very dangerous if the lift failed. Roof area quite nice but had to trail down to Reception for towel as none at pool bar.

Great location if you like the beach but no good if you like good restaurants in evening as are none!! No parking either so spent 20 minutes one evening trailing streets to find space. Tried one night to get evening drink at hotel, sat for 10 minutes being ignored so went to Phonix bar for cocktails instead. Really nice but be aware that 2 for 1 means two of same one so you both have to want the same. Travelled to Palma to restaurant Toque for our anni meal as very average around hotel which was very good and worth the taxi fare, however, cos booked through hotel, cost €5 more on way in as driver seemed to pay commission to hotel before leaving so get your own from up street! Didn't eat at hotel for dinner so can't comment but breakfasts okay. Would not return.
