“Good value”

We have just returned following a week here. Good accommodation but could do with air conditioning. We stayed in room 304 which was a large apartment but did suffer from early morning noise from bin emptying, road sweeping and hotel deliveries to the hotels in front. The pool area was good. The pool bar food was excellent with lovely salads, sandwiches and bagettes which were great value. Nice atmosphere at the outside evening bar in the evenings. It is a quiet resort with only a handful of restaurants. Would recommend the blue restaurant siesta at the end of the beach which did a lovely paella. We visited Andratx port which is lovely and Santa Ponsa which is lively! We had lovely weather with temperatures in the high 20's - 28 a few days! We went to the Island restaurant which was a nice experience, if you keep your receipt you can claim back 10% from reception as the hotel owns the restaurant. It was basic but for the price we paid compared to the price of the large hotels it was great value. We were with a large group so we really enjoyed ourselves!

Room Tip: Front rooms are sunny but can be noisy. Back rooms are shaded.

We stayed for a few days at the begining of August - family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids). We were very pleasantly surprised having booked a room to be put in essentially a small apartment, with two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a (very small) kitchenette area. It was pretty basic (and not the greatest shower!) but much bigger than we were expecting and kept clean. We were on the top floor overlooking the pool, so found it to be lovely and quiet.
The hotel is in a fantasic location and Camp de Mar is a beautiful spot. We did eat breakfast in the little cafe next to the swimming pool every morning and it was really good, however chose to eat out for lunch and dinner - there are some restaurants on the beach that afford you a beautiful view over dinner.
The pool area was large for the size of the hotel and never felt crowded - you could always find a spot whatever time of day.
All in all a basic, but sound accomodation choice - not luxurious but fantastic location and very good value.

Just got back from another stay at the Villa Real in Camp de Mar. Very peaceful as usual, weather mostly between 27 and 31 with just one morning when it was overcast following a storm the night before. Met some nice people whilst I was there so if any of you happen to stumble across this review then it was nice to meet you all especially Ben and his wife and her mum, the couple from mid wales who have been before, Alan and his wife from Loughborough, the couple who's sunshade kept blowing over whilst they were reading their books, special hello to Tom, Karen, Liz and Natalie from Southend, enjoyed watching their attempts at lilo surfing in the pool and enjoyed the pool volleyball we played. IF YOU INTEND PLAYING POOL VOLLEYBALL PLEASE READ THE NEXT REVIEW FOR THE VILLA REAL RULES. Anyway continuing on with my review. Camp de Mar and more importantly the Villa Real is a quiet resort and hotel. With this in mind it caters for people who are looking for a quiet relaxing break, happy to laze in the sun, read a book, occasional dip in the pool to cool off, generally unwind without a lot going around you. The resort itself has to the left a nice sandy beach with plenty of beds at 3 euros per day with shades but plenty of space to just lay down a towel, there are also pedalos which can be hired from 9 euros per hour. To the right is a slightly more rocky beach which has been cleared of most of the rocks since last year, this are offers a better area to swim and snorkel as it is much quieter. Tours and trips can be booked at the kiosk on the small walk down to the beach from the hotel with boats trips running from the small island in the bay. There are about 9 restaurants in the resort catering for all tastes and budgets, personally I find cafeteria camp de mar (up the hill at the side of hotel past the spar shop) to be the most reasonable when it comes to price and quality (grilled chicken, chips & salad 9.50 euros), the petit ambassador on the beach to the left is also very good but a little more pricey, for a special treat go to la siesta (blue signage at end of beach to the left) for the sea bass majorcan style at 17 euros it is fabulous. The island does food but I generally grab a drink during the day there. Other restaurants include Bar Bargari (first up hill from hotel) great for snacks, Le Tulip next up road a bit pricey for me. Gran Sol good for steaks further up hill, Chinese / Thai restaurant up the cliff road (very exclusive), Old Quiote basic but nice, Ambassador beach last along the bay again basic but okay. You can also eat on the island but I didn't find it any better than the others I visited. The Thomson Gold hotel opposite allows non residents to eat in there for 20 euros pay at their reception and offers a great range of mains and deserts well worth the money. For those wanting to cook more for themselves grab a taxi up to supermercado in paguera about 5-6 euros if you are wanting to stock up its much cheaper than the local spar and offers much more variety. Paguera itself is a predominantly German resort as they have bought up most the shops and hotels, it is nice to go for some shopping in the evening and the bars are quite entertaining but as I say it is all german, personally I find it a nice resort to visit either during the day for the nice long beach with a lot of watersports or in the evening for the shops, if your getting a cab back at night walk back to the taxi rank at the beginning of the one way street to save both time and money. Nightclubs are available both in Paguera and Andratx for those looking for some more lively nightlife. Evenings in Camp de Mar are not that much more lively than the days, people mainly eat out and enjoy quiet drinks at any of the restaurants or 4 hotels. Javi's bar located at the front and underneath the Villa Real is very popular with pints of san miguel at 2.50 euros and all shorts 4.50 euros, when javi pours the shorts though its not like in england where you get exactly one measure with javi its at least 4 and sometimes more if you keep him talking whilst pouring. Most of the Thomson Gold residents come across for the cheap drinks and they are a bit of a laugh when you get talking to them. Most of my time was spent relaxing and enjoying the mainly unspoilt quiet around the pool, food and drinks are cheap enough, in fact the villa real baguette at 4.50 euros is a meal in itself and requires a few lengths to burn it off, Gabriel offers great food and service and is normally open from about 9am to 5pm. The Villa Real although called a Hotel is really just self catering apartments, basic but clean. People have in the past complained about the service expecting it to be like a 4 star hotel, if you ask you will get is the motto here. Towels and bedding are changed regularly but if you want them changing in between just ask the cleaners. Reception is open till noon but all the pool and bar staff can help with anything, for those checking in after noon your room cards are left at the reception desk. Pool etiquette is something to remember for first timers, this is not the place where you need to bagsy your beds at 6am there are more than enough to go around, having said that when you arrive take a look at who is parked where and don't just take someones space the following day, I like to be by the wall on the far side half way along the pool and every day whatever time I got to the pool that bed was free, so fit in where you can and as people leave you can move about, another thing is inflatables, the balls and lilos are for anyone's use just remember to put them away by the seating area if you are there at the end of the day to stop them blowing into the car park.Just to reiterate this is a quiet hotel and quiet resort and in the main unspoilt, before booking this hotel you need to consider a couple of things 1. when in speak am I able to adjust the volume down so that not everybody can hear 2. can I respect that other people are here to enjoy the peace and not spoil that for them 3. if I insist on bringing my child / children (not much for kids to do here) do I need to shout their name from one end of the pool to the other every 30 seconds so before the day is out everyone knows their names off by heart 4. when i get changed at night (women this is) can I remember that i don't need to put my heels on before I do anything else and constantly clomp around giving the people in the room below me a migraine. Basically look yourself in the mirror and be honest and ask yourself can you and yours be seen and not heard for most of the time if the answer is yes then I look forward to seeing you at the Villa Real. If anyone remembers me from anyone of my stays I'm the one with the rugby ball, feel free to get in touch. Don't forget to read the Pool Volleyball Rules.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool or rear of hotel are quieter in the morning when the bottle collection an...

A good basic budget option. The room that you get allocated will reflect your opinion as some of the lower floor rooms are a bit dark and/or smelly. It seemed that most guests started in one of these rooms before moving to another room. The pool area is very nice with plenty of loungers/space and there is a good choice of food and drinks available at the snack bar. The staff were friendly & helpful throughout the hotel.

Camp de Mar has a lovely beach and a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. It is quiet with only a handful of restaurants and shops. Andratx and Paguera are easily reached by taxi for approximately £6. The restaurant to the left of Villa Real (as you come out of the hotel) has very good food (Meson Quiote?) and in Paguera Cafe Latina (just before the second beach & park/play area) has delicious local specialities at very reasonable prices.

We hired a car for three days (approx £120 with air-con). Nearby are Callas Fornells (gorgeous coves with plenty of shade) Sant Elm (a lovely beach, restaurants/cafes/ice-cream bar and spectacular views out to Dragonera Island at sunset) Palma was less than half an hour's drive and the coast road to Soller had some spectacular views but did take over two hours. The market at Andratx is also worth a visit for the delicious fresh produce (there is also plenty of overpriced tat) There are large supermarkets nearby.

The apartments themselves are basic but are what you would expect for what you pay. Some of the rooms do not supply a kettle so if you are a hot drink lover i would recommend you email ahead and request a kettle. The linens are only changed once a week so dont go there thinking they change them everyday like a hotel. There is a safe in the room. But does not come with a can opener so take one yourself if you need it! Also the apartments at the back of the hotel that look over the pool are best. Much quieter as the rooms at the front are quite noisy from the bar and the crazy bin men recycling glass and crazy times of the morning. So i would also recommend email Villa real and requesting a room at the back.

Now on to the gooood stuff. Javi the bar man at villa real wellllll, firstly what a bloody nice bloke. The whole time i was there this man was constantly smiling. His measures of drink in the bar well, you could get drunk pretty quickly. You definitely get more for your money at the bar! Javi is very helpful and is the man to go to if you need any help. Plus if you see him by the pool with his top off well it ain't half badddd!

The pool is a good size and there is enough sunbeds for everyone. The bar by the pool run by Gaby who is great cooks some fab food. Got to try the Villa Real baguette. The pool was our home for the week, being quite young we decided almost everyday to play a bit of volleyball which annoyed a few people as they just wanted to sleep but they got over it. Well what can i say Villa Real Volleyball is pretty immense but a few simple rules need to be followed:
1- Girls go in the small pool- Boys in the big pool (more surface to cover!)
2- If it hits the stairs in the small pool- Out of bounds.
3- If it goes over your head- height restriction
4- Basically everytime you dont get it in the small pool its out.
Follow these rules in the small pool and you will win!

Then onto the joke of the holiday "you got to be chicken joking" came about when a 12 year old girl Luna, you may meet her one day as she lives in spain and is quite lively. Luna misheard "freaking joking" as "chicken joking" it kinda carried on from there. If you go to Villa real you must carry on this joke as it is now tradition.

Next up restaurants. The ones to go to areeee, The gran sol just up the road from bar bagari which you will see when you come out of the Villa real. Great food and great entertainment. Then there is the ambassador right on the seafront. Also great food and not bad prices.

Things to do. Basically camp de mar does not consist of much, the only thing we done in the resort was hired a pedalo with a slide which was 14 euros for an hour. This was fun. The sea is lovely but extremely salty! The only other thing in resort are shops. The best things to do are outside of camp de mar. The best way to book these are through alison who works right near the beach in a wooden shack. Very friendly and will tell you everything you need to know, unlike the actual tourism shop who did not really help at all. We booked both western waterpark- absolutely immense. Which alison informed us about the free bus service to the park from paguera which is only 5 euros in a taxi. Would advise western waterpark to anyone. We did not pay for the sunbeds or the floats as it was not busy. The food is quite expensive so take a packed lunch. You will have to pay for lockers and they take you picture on your way in which you can purchase for 8 euros. The other place we booked through alison was Katmandu, basically a fun house in magaluf. The taxi there was 16 euros each way but well worth the money. Katmandu was amazing and would definitely go again! We also went to paguera for shopping as it is cheaper than camp de mar, especially the supermarket. But as you walk the strip the shops all seem to sell the same things. And it is very much German orientated so that is the first language everyone speaks to you in.

To sum up the holiday was fab, restaurants are nice and there are things to do aslong as you don't mind travelling out of resort. Oh and if you ever see a bald bloke there his name is IAN and he knows everything. So if you need anything as him. Hahaha! Oh and helen on reception has her moments and is not as helpful as Javi!

Hope this was "Chicken" helpful!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back over looking the pool are best.

So myself & my family have been holidaying at the Villa Real for the last 5 year's.
We find it exceptional value, extremely friendly and my children (10 & 8) are never out of the large swimming pool. The stunning beach is about 2 mins away.

The rooms are basic but clean & ideal for self catering. Most of all fabulous value.
There are a selection of restaurants in the area, we liked La Siesta or Ambassador on the beach. We also over the years have eaten in Cafe Latino in Paguera good value. Also here is a large supermarket called Mercadona much cheaper than supermarket in Resort, taxi approx 5-6€ to Paguera.
The snack bar at the Villa Real is good value & has a great choice of snacks & drinks.
For those who have been to the Villa Real in previous years & know Xisca. She now has a fantastic restaurant in Andratx with her Father (the chef) called Sa Societat. Highly recommend you visit here, lovely surroundings and a great value day/evening set menu from 8-14.50€

If your looking for a relaxing holiday in a stunning quiet resort for great value for money this is for you.
We love it here that's why we return year after year. It's like visiting family...
