We returned on Sunday from a 9 night stay at this hotel and cannot fault it ! This was our first visit but will certainly not be our last, in fact we are already looking to book for next year !

The food is the best we have had in Spain by far and the service is first class.

The reason this hotel stood out for us is the exceptional hard working hotel manager and staff. From the manager right down to the cleaners the staff go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable and they are so friendly and helpful. Special mention to Cisco & Javier !

The entertainment is good and we did not mind that it finishes by 11,15pm as we are early risers so are never up too late anyway ! If you want late nights and loud clubs then this is not the resort for you.

As for the sunbeds, I ended up joining the queue at about 6.50am each morning as we like to have a view over the sea during the day and it was so hot that if you did not get a bed round the edge it was tooo hot to lay there ! But unlike other holidaymakers that reserve their beds and then only lay on them for an hour or so a day we are on our beds all day apart from when we go in for breakfast and go out for some lunch. I think it would be better if Jose opened the doors a little later but I think you would still have people queuing from 6am ! ANd to be fair this generally happens at every hotel we go to.

I cannot fault the hotel and staff and would like to thank them all for such a lovely holiday !

Keep up the good work and we will see you all again next summer !

Room Tip: High floor for excellent sea views

We decided on a Thomson Gold hotel after visiting our local Thomson office. We would have taken any minimum 4 star hotel in any resort as long as we could travel from Norwich.
The Grupotel Camp de Mar does not take children so being in our late sixties this suited us.
On arrival we were not happy with no sea view which we did ask for and our room was on the opposite side of the hotel and was on the ground floor. Upon opening the balcony door we were treated to tennis players right outside the window so we had to have the curtains closed all the time. My wife informed the reception that we were not happy and this was rectified by a room change two days later to the fourth floor still on the opposite side to the sea but better than we had.
This was the only complaint we had in a fourteen day holiday as the hotel was spotless, the food of top quality and the staff friendly and extremely hard working. The Manager, Jose, was deservedly proud of his staff and kitchens and the bar and dining room staff were faultless. Jose would appear several times daily in the breakfast and dining areas and was constantly evaluating the pool and snack bar areas. He was polite to all customers and gave sincere handshakes to customers.
The Thomson entertainments team were working long hours to keep residents happy and were constantly organising quizzes and games which were entirely optional and a bit of fun.
We booked three Thomson excursions, the first to the Palma Aquarium which was good but had perhaps a few too many hours to kill once having seen all the exhibits. There was a nice cafe there that sold reasonable food not too expensive. The second was the Pirates acrobatic presentation which was expensive for VIP front seats but well worth it. The third we booked was the visit to the Inca market which we didn't wake up in time for in the morning which was our fault.
The Thomson night acts from 2130 each night were mixed both in quality and content with the best being a comic singer called Graham Powell, a Soul singing trio from South Africa and a comedian called Tucker and a Beatles take off group.
There was a scramble for sun beds from 0700 each morning but this was quite unnecessary as there were lots available even with a full hotel and only if you really wanted a certain spot was it necessary to put your towel over a bed.
I did think that the hotel should have provided free WiFi as we had to purchase cards at 25E for two weeks. Otherwise bar prices were around 6.50 euros for a cocktail and wines in the restaurant were between 14 and 20 euros per bottle. John Smiths was available at 4.60 a pint can and Magners at 3.60 a can. These were served really ice cold which was fine in up to 40 degrees of heat!
We rarely go back to any venue but would recommend the Grupotel Camp de Mar to anyone wanting a relaxing time.

Room Tip: Make sure of a sea view. A suite would be preferable but not always possible to obtain at peak times...

Just returned from Grupotel Camp de Mar. Had a very relaxing holiday. Hotel is spotlessly clean. The food was excellent, plenty to choose from.
The hotel is run very well, with Jose the manager always around.
The only problem is the sunbeds. We had an early departure., so went for early breakfast (6.30).
Could not believe people coming down waiting for doors open at 7, to put towels on beds !

All in all had a great holiday.

we booked this hotel less than a week before we went after a friend had recommended it to us. Our room was classed as a limited sea view which was fair enough as it was a late booking. We were quite surprised though as the view was really nice from the side of the hotel but it also overlooked the Gran Camp de Mar which was interesting at times to watch and listen if we were in our room or on the balcony which got the late afternoon sun as this was an all inclusive family hotel and the Playa Camp de mar is an adult only hotel, thank goodness Ha Ha
The hotel room was quite spacious with good air conditioning lovely bathroom and large shower. It also had flat screen tv with sky sport channels (my husband was able to watch Man city match) there was also kettle + cups but take your own coffee & tea if you want to make 1 in your room there is also a fridge large enough for water, wine etc.
I agree with the other reviews that people reserve their sun beds but where does this not happen.
The hotel offers a great selection at the buffet restaurant at breakfast and evening meal times there was always something tasty to choose from, especially the counter at breakfast where they made smoothies and omelettes or at evening when they presented a special dish. The staff are very hard working, friendly people and the young staff at the pool area funny, dancing to the music etc
The resort is quiet but this was the reason we went. We took a taxi which are located just outside the hotel to Port Andratx about 7 euro (but the bus is cheaper) which is very busy with a lot of restaurants, bars, street entertainers and buskers and a chance to people watch and look at the yachts and also we know people walked to another resort Paguera We used the bus service to go to Santa Ponsa which was only 1euro 50 each so plenty to do if you want.

Grupotel Playa Camp De Mar
10th-24th August.
Stayed at this very nice hotel and had a very large suite.
It was on the second floor which I was pleased as there was only 2 lifts and was always occupied.
The room overlooked the pool and sea.we had slippers dressing gowns flowers where was my wine though? The food was good and plentiful but too much pork, always nice fish. Don't be on diet, puddings excellent.Entertainment ok best evening tribute group Beatles and the comedian, midnight affair most nights. The beach is very safe and the sea warm its very popular so packed as they come from afar so not quiet as reported. The staff at hotel very friendly. Now for the problem Jos'e The Pool, being woken up every morning at 7oclock in morning by sad holiday makers dragging sun beds around pool to their special spot. Your see row of towels outside door to the pool at 6.30am. What would have been a nice holiday was spoilt unless you stop this there will be quite a few who will not return.

This was our second visit to Grupotel Playa Camp de Mar (middle of August) and it is by far one of the best Gold hotels. Jose must take the credit for a well run hotel with happy, friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is very clean, excellent food and caters for special diets. If anything too much choice - in a good way!! We had fresh fruit and a cooked breakfast in the morning which kept us going until the evening meal, with maybe an ice-cream during the day. Thomson reps were very good, especially Eimear, always eager to help. We went to the Son Amar show - absolutely fantastic and well worth the money - meal and drinks included. We also went on the boat trip to Santa Ponsa, really enjoyed it and staff on the boat hilarious!! The walk to Paguera is a nice walk (preferably in trainers), it was a very hot day and we walked there and back, hard going in the heat but very enjoyable. Evening entertainment in the hotel was mainly good, and a very good resident duo, and plenty going on during the day with Gemma and Jason if you want to get involved. Camp de Mar is a small quiet place with a handful of shops. If you like a quiet place to relax and chill, with an excellent choice of food and entertainment, this is it. If that is not what you want, don't go there. Many people say Gold hotels are for the elderly, this is not so, there was a wide range of ages from young couples right through to the very elderly. As in most hotels you always get those people who have to be out early morning to reserve a sunbed, personally I have got better things to do with my time than lie on a sunbed all day! I do agree with other reviews though, there are signs stating sunbeds should not be reserved but guests ignore it. Maybe staff should do what a small number of hotels do, go round and take the towels off sunbeds no matter what time of day it is, if there is nobody on them! As mentioned in another review we too had an early start on departure day and could not believe the number of people sitting on the stairs and hogging the doorway waiting for the door to be opened so they could grab their sunbeds - pathetic. They should not be allowed to sit on the stairs for safety reasons!! However, we had a fabulous time and have booked another week in October.

Room Tip: Room with a sea/pool view is a must.

This is our second year at the Playa Camp de Mar and we returned in the same relaxed state as we did last year, hence we have just booked for a third time (something I've always refused to do in past but holidays cost money and I don't want to waste it on a bad one). We are not the only ones, as we noticed many familiar faces from last year.

All the staff are very friendly and you have a sense that you are genuinely welcome (a special mention to Esther and Otunba who always had us laughing during mealtimes). Jose, the manager, is ever present, making sure everyone is happy.

FOOD AND RESTAURANT
There is a large variety of foods available - dietary needs catered for eg a dedicated gluten free toaster, diabetic jams etc - a selection of local dishes - a few freshly prepared dished eg pancakes, omelettes, pork chops - and if you don't like what you are eating, you can always go and get something else.

Occasionally the restaurant was very busy when we entered but a table was alway organised, once staff realised you were waiting. You do need to wear long trousers, so bring them.

ROOMS
If you are a budding hotel inspector, you may find fault but we found the rooms are ok, although the furniture is a bit tired. The maid came in everyday and the beds changed every 2-3 days; you can decide when you want your towels changed. The air con is good and you can adjust it. We had a maintenance issue which was dealt with promptly. There is an empty fridge, kettle (no tea, coffee etc.), cups, glasses, hairdryer and safe (which you have to pay for). There is a TV with a quite a few english channels. We had a seaview room and the view is fantastic.

ENTERTAINMENT
Entertainment was a bit better this year, Soul Hunter and The Sundaes were very good. There was a lot of younger guests this year but Thomsons still insist on sticking to a couple of eras in their musical acts. But you are not forced to watch, maybe listen if you are in your room as you can hear it. but not watch. :- D

OUT AND ABOUT
The resort is very small with around a dozen or so shop, a few bars (which I heard were good) and restaurants. The beach is lovely and the water is warm and clear. It is very popular with holidaymakers and locals - 2 sunbeds and a parasol cost €12.50. There is a shower on the beach to wash off and it is Blue Flag beach. There are always taxis outside the hotel with a list of prices and you can catch the 102 bus to Andrax Town - market on Wednesday is huge - Port of Andrax, Paguera, Santa Ponsa and Palma. This bus gets very bus and they crammed as many people on as possible but it is a lot cheaper, Palma costs €4.55 each way. There are some walks from the hotel and you can get maps from the Reps. Be warned, these can be difficult if you don't have trainers. We managed to walk up to the water tower at the top of the hill - we saw it from the hotel and saw it as a challenge - but I did fall over on a relatively easy section as the stones acted like marbles.

We went on the Orange Blossom Trail (no smells of orange blossom or seeing many actual oranges). The tram, oldy worldy train and views were the highlights for me and Francesco very informative. My husband found it boring.

NOW ABOUT THE SUNBEDS
You do hear guests moving the sunbeds around from 7am but in all the time we have been on holiday I am yet to find somewhere that this does not happen - so each to there own. We came down around 8 - 8.30ish and there were always loads of beds and umbrellas available - in fact there were beds still available all day (although not always cushions due to the few selfish guests, we noticed, having more than one). The only days we noticed that all the beds had gone by about 10 am was on Fridays - we put this down to the large number of guests leaving on the Saturday and wanted to stay by the pool on their last day.

We had a very enjoyable relaxing time and we didn't want to leave :-( .!!! Roll on next year :-D !!!

Room Tip: High floor for the views / side seaview rooms see more of the entertainment from their room.
