We booked a 2 week holiday at the Gropotel Playa Camp De mar but, with hindsight and the remoteness of this Hotel, wished we had only booked a week.

If you want a quiet holiday just sitting by the poolside all day then this is the place to come - set in a lovely bay with a good sized pool and the beach just in front of the pool.

Unfortunately for us we like to get out and about so spent most of the 2 weeks getting buses, taxis or going on excursions.

This is a big Hotel with over 250 rooms and as a result we did not enjoy the dining experience - most nights, if you did not get down when the restaurant opened, you were struggling getting a table more like a canteen than a restaurant although it has to be said that the food was very good.

The other major disappointment was the fact that this Hotel had only 2 x small lifts to serve so many customers - we were on the 3rd floor and spent the 2 weeks walking up and down stairs frustrated that you could never get a lift.

The evening entertainment was quite good but the Thomson Gold standards are certainly not what they used to be.

As we were staying for 2 weeks it was decided that we should treat ourselves and book a suite with a sea view - we were allocated room 315 on the 3rd floor which was OK but appeared to be 2 single rooms knocked through to make one suite - an excellent bathroom / shower room but an awful balcony with little space and no privacy - certainly not worth the additional cost.

Overall we thought the Hotel was in a visually good location but very quiet and remote.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a sea view room.

We were given a warm welcome at the reception, which was a good start,as our journey to Majorca was particularly unpleasant and tedious, not helped by the ignorant and miserable Thomson check-in staff at Doncaster Airport.
We had booked a suite and were allocated one on the fifth floor, giving a side sea view with 2 small balconies.
The suite was spacious, very clean, complete with fridge,2 flat screen televisions and tea and coffee making facilities.
We had plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and the kingsize bed although rather unsupprotive was adequate.
A nice touch was a free bottle of water,a bowl of fruit, and a flower display.
The televisions had the main English channels installed,so we didn't miss our favourite programmes.
The bathroom was complete with a large whirlpool bath, twin basins, slippers and past their best dressing gowns.
The food in the Hotel was generally good but excellent on Gala Nights.
Soups varied tremendously, and there was a lack of cold meats or fish to go with the salads.
Main courses were reasonable, the sweets were varied and did cater for those on diets.
At breakfast there was only whole milk available, and I would question the quality of the cereals, but the porridge was wonderful.
The coffee served was awful so we made ourselves Nescafe.but at least the water from the machines was boiling.
Staff were all 5 star,so polite, helpful and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble.
Drinks generally were a bit expensive, the House wine was 14 euros and we christened it "gasolina!"
We really can't comment on the entertainment as we didn't wish to be entombed in the underground bunker where this took place, but apparently this took place outside in the height of the season.
To be fair the entertainment staff worked tirelessly to amuse those who couldn't entertain themselves.
The pool and all the surrounding areas were well maintained and drinks waiters were always in attendance, snacks by the pool were available from 10am 'till 5pm. and these were excellent.
Camp De Mar is a very quiet resort, with a very limited choice of bars and restaurants.
We had a car for the 2 weeks while we were at this resort so we could escape and appreciate the beautiful surrounding countryside.
The next large resort is Paguera about 3 miles down the road, where we felt like 5th columnists dropped behind enemy lines. This resort is looking a bit tired and needs some TLC,but our Bavarian brothers seemed happy enough to colonise it!
Jose, the manager of the Gruphotel, worked long hours and was very approachable and quite often was stationed at the dining room entrance to engage with the customers.
We did think that the hotel lacked a bit of atmosphere, due to all the guests being British and mostly over 70.
Loads of sunbeds available, but still some guests insisted on the towel trick at 7am.
Overall we quite enjoyed our holiday, but will leave it a few years before we would return to Camp De Mar.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a suite, there is a world od difference in comfort.

This hotel is located in a beautiful bay (which is not over developed) and has a great beach with a few restaurants. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, the staff are helpful and the buffet style food is great, plenty of choice and always tasty. It ticks all the boxes for a couples holiday. There are no under 16's staying at the hotel which makes it more relaxing and quieter. The bedrooms are well equipped and include air con, flat screen TV with English channels, a kettle and fridge. The bathrooms are superb, with double sinks and a large powerful walk in shower. Parts of the hotel were being used for filming a movie called a 'long way down' starring Pierce Brosnan, so if you see the film when it comes out it will give you a better idea of the hotel and resort of Camp de Mar. We are happy to recommend this hotel and resort to other couples looking to enjoy some warm Mallorcan sunshine in a quieter resort, yet within relatively easy traveling distance of Palma and other interesting places on the West side of Mallorca .

we selected this hotel and resort after reading other reviews on tripadvisor.we have been to majorca on numerous occasions over the past few years and have had enjoyable holidays in porto pollensa and cala bona visiting soller, porto christo, alcudia and the lovely capital palma, but this was our first holiday on the south west coast. however we enjoyed this small resort alot, with a super hotel. the choice of food is quite unbelievable and the quality too match. anybody that cannot find something suitable to their taste is hard to please. the hotel itself has everything a four star hotel should have from more than adeqate sun loungers to very tasteful seating inside the hotel. the local bus takes you to the port of andrax in one direction and to paguera and santa ponsa the oter way for one and half euros.highly recomended holiday.

Room Tip: pick a room on fourth, fifth or sixth floor for fantastic sea views

We have just returned from another excellent weeks holiday at this hotel.I would recommend the Playa Camp de Mar to anyone who is looking for a place to chill out and relax and be looked after by obliging and friendly staff. As has been said many times on this site, the quality and choice of food is excellent, the the hotel is very clean and comfortable and the location is magnificent. The manager is very hands on and approachable and it is this attention to detail that helps to make this hotel special.
Camp de Mar is a small quiet resort but there are a number of good local restaurants, shops and bars if you should choose to venture out . No Nightclubs, karaoke bars or British Pubs I'm afraid but there is an excellent bus service into Peguera,Andraxt ,Palma and other local towns if that is the kind of thing you are looking for.For the more physically active there are a number of walks from the hotel of differing degrees of difficulty and Chris the Local interest Rep at the hotel will be only too happy to provide you with maps and advice and leads a couple of local walks each week.
You will have read some reviews on this site complaining about the "sunbed rush" the entertainment, the silly games etc.but it is important to remember that you don't have to get involved in any of that just do your own thing!
At this hotel you can have exactly the kind of holiday you want, relax by the pool ,join in activites (or not as you wish ), go on trips or walks without anyone hasseling you, it really is upto you how you enjoy yourself.
If I was to offer any advice to would be visitors it would be to book a room with a balcony and sea view.It is really very pleasant sitting on your balcony in the evening with a G&T looking out over the picturesque sandy bay before getting ready for dinner and if you feel like any entertainment after dinner Tori and Dave the resident duo are very good ,happy to play requests or just to chat to.
We have holidayed all over the world and will continue to do so but will always be happy to return to the Playa Camp de Mar because we know exactly what we will get, that is a quality relaxing holiday with no hidden problems or uncertainties.Hotels that provide the standards of service that this hotel does are relatively few and far between and so I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

We have just returned from our 2nd holiday this year at this hotel. Once again the staff were so obliging and Jose the manager was always on hand with a smile and a word which makes such a difference to the overall holiday. The area is quiet and relaxing. The food is excellent with plenty of choice from spanish to brittish certainly great for the careful diners. This hotel should be top of the Thomson Gold and should be a 5 star rating

Room Tip: we would recommend a sea view room
