On arrival at the Bonanza Playa the receptionist was very welcoming and was aware that we had disabilities and had arranged a room as per an email I had sent. We had a short wait till our room was ready but were given a glass of champagne and very efficently given details on obtaining frree pool towels etc.. We went to our room but found it was on the side of the hotel where the sun was on the balcony only in the morning.

We were ,with no fuss at all, given a key to another room which we agreed would be fine and the very helpful receptionist very quickly arranged to have the bed made into a double instead of two singles. We had sun from 10.00 am until 5.30 p.m.

We were very disappointed with the size of the room and during the stay felt even more strongly about this as we could hear the next door neighbours talking in their room. The glass panel dividing our balcony with the next was cracked and there was rubble on a ridge where a bit of the edging concrete had broken off. Obviously my expectations of this hotel were wrong but for a hotel on Thomsons Al la Carte list I would have expected better.

We would have normally expected a safe in our room, wireless facilities and dressing gowns. These were available but all at extra cost.
Pool towels were available free and were of very good quality.

Our chamber maid kept our rooms spotless and always managed to clean while we were at breakfast.

During our stay we had a cover fall of a socket and the basin was slow to run away, but there was no delay in getting these things fixed.

The hotel did put some fruit and two small bottles of wine in our room which we appreciated. We did not use the mini bar as the prices were exorbitant. This however is no different to other hotels.

The gardens and pool side were lovely and immaculate although quite a lot of the sun beds were broken, probably due to our visit being at the end of the Season. As usual even though the hotel tried to prevent it there were the towels placed on sun beds and no occupants.

Our main problem was with the dinning room. It is important when booking that you check what facilities the hotel has for help if the meals are buffet style. The Bonanza has buffet style breakfast and optional buffet style dinner.

Although we were told by the head waiter that a table would be saved for us for breakfast this only happened for two days but it did appear that if we had been GermanI or our tips had been larger we would have been assisted more. It was like a rugby scrum and the waiters were in the style of Fawlty towers.

Dinner we did like most people, have a reserved table, but again the words Fawlty towers just come into my head. People got the wrong wine, the bottles were labelled wrongly with room numbers (you could keep your bottle of wine for the next day). The waiters often had difficulty in explaining the brief menu. For two days we asked for and got tap water which was of excellent quality but on the th ird day the head waiter informed us that we could not have this as we had to buy our water.!!!!!

The hotel professes to be trying to be environmentally friendly, they ask you to put a notice on the bed when you wish your sheets to be changed and to put your towels in the bath when you want them changed but you HAVE to buy bottled water!!!!.

This has taught me to read every review before booking not after and to read between the lines becauseI I could have chosen differently.

What a great hotel we stayed there over August Bank Holiday weekend, there was never a problem getting a sunbed or brolly & the pool attendant/ lifeguard was very attentive, it was also very nice to see the Manager Valarie in the restaurant every night welcoming guests in, it is nice to have a choice of sitting and also nice to keep the same table for your stay........ WE WILL return to other Riu hotels :-)

The Hotel service was as expected in a RIU. The staff were always attentive, pleasent and happy to help. All seemed to be trying to make your stay a very pleasant one. The whole site was very clean and tidy. The poolside toilets and showers you would want at home. The food was varied, fish, meat salad etc but after a time as can be expected it did seem to repeat itself. I feel the food was not really 4 star.

The hotel/resort is DEFINATELY NOT for the young, but if you want pleasant walks small bars and restfull surroundings you will like it. There is an excellent bus service to Palma which operates every 10 minutes from outside the hotel for a cost of 1.25 euros which runs from 06:00 to 00:30. This is quite a hilly area so you should be in a reasonable state of health to enjoy the it.

You will also hear very little English spoken here and in the surrounding area. There are many nationalities at the hotel and yes, our German friends are there with towels. The hotel does seem biased more towards the German nationals and towards the end of my stay they did appear to been made more "willkommen" but maybe they were spending and tipping more than me!!

Do NOT go here if you want kiss me quick, chips and bingo!!

Very nice hotel, located across the street from the sister Riu Bonanza Playa. You can use Playa facilities, primarily private access to the sea (no real beach though).
The rooms are OK. Nothing special, but we didn't expect more of a good 4-star.
The staff is extremely nice, both at the reception and at the restaurant. The hotel is not that big, so they seem to recognize and greet all the guests.
The food is fine, variety of seafood for dinner. Great view from the restaurant balcony (served only for breakfast).
The hotel is located at Illetas, I would say the best place at Mallorca if only you are not a 15-year old teen. It is very calm and respectable, but close enough to the capital - Palma - to spend a night out there. The taxi drive to Palma is short and not costly, alternatively there's a bus stop right in front of the hotel.
Illetas beach club with a small cozy beach is about 15 min walk. Not too crowded, at least in June.

great little hotel, did a reveue just after last visit but mistakenly did it for the bonanza playa, suffice it to say i would not go back if it was rubbish, lovely quiet area, no problem with raucious rowdies definitly not for you if you are one, going back tomorrow (may 2009) watch this space for update. though one little niggle is that you have to pay for parking, as i remember around 6 euro a day and 30 euro deposit for the electronic key (refundable). however there is a free car park about 5 mins walk away, at bottom of the main rd but a shortcut up some steps makes the walk back not that long

The riu Bonanza Park is situated in Illetas, a residential outpost of Palma. I will attempt to give you more info about its location later but first I will try and help with advice on the hotel.
This hotel turned out to be a real find, there is not many reports due to the hotel being sold mainly to the German market but there are all nationality's. Infact not sure if its in any U.K. travel brochures but can be booked through web sites such as alpha rooms, holiday rooms, etc.
The hotel is a solid 4 star hotel, modern in style, set in lovely landscaped grounds. It has a 12 hole crazy golf and tennis courts if you want to be active.
Relaxation is the order of the day here, its not party central and I would not recommend either the hotel or Illetas itself for teens or more active kids.
The rooms are immaculate and a good size. All you want, mini bar, tv,safe( pay) air con, balcony, shower in bath and hairdryer.
We asked for a view over to the Bay of Palma on a high floor. We were on the 5th floor, the top floor is suites. There are also bungalows on the property which had their own large balcony and loungers. There are two swimming pools, both okay in size on split levels. We found no problems with sunbeds or canopys all day, so no panic on a morning chasing these. If you want to save weight in your case, you can hire a beach towel for your stay from reception, 10 euros each, money returned at check out.
There is a terrace for lunch next to the main pool and a bar, the staff bring drinks to your sunbeds.
The resteraunt has 2 sittings if on half board. 6-30 and 8-30. You can choose. Bright modern dining room, with buffet service which has a wide choice which can be repetetive but is of a good standard. You are allocated your own table for your stay.
Breakfast 8-00 till 10-30, buffet service again but you can sit anywhere. There was entertainment most nights on the terrace at front of hotel okay to chill out .
The staff at this hotel we found all very helpful and pleasant, nothing too much trouble for them. The manageress greets you in the dining hall personally at your table, and is very open for you to see her, or her staff if any problems.
Illetas is not a large resort, the beach is about 20 mins walk from the hotel. There are about a handfull of cafe/ bars within walking distance of the hotel. Supermarket/ commercial centre 10mins walk, which is only small.
The hotel is in the centre of Illetas, bus to Palma outside hotel door 1.10 euros. Half hour journey. Taxis, telephone box as well, outside hotel. Buses every 10 mins.
In a nutshell, class hotel, fairly quiet area ,nice staff and accomodation good transport links and the hotel we found great value for money.
We had read on previous review of local building work. This was not on going when we were there.
