At last a hotel that exceeds my expectations!! Stunning modern hotel with lovely sea views! Stayed there for a 40th celebration and were given a room on the 6th floor with fantastic views, even got a bottle of complimentary cava and fruit on our first night! Quiet location but easy access by bus or taxi into Palma or to the nearby port. Reception staff were polite, helpful and were happy to recommend restaurants and make bookings on our behalf. Enjoyed a fabulous few days and will definately return!

Room Tip: 6th floor rooms have excellent views

Have just spent the Easter break at the Melia De Mar with my fiancé to unwind ahead of our wedding in a month's time.

The entire weekend has been fantastic - service has been exemplary from the moment we arrived until this very moment that we are about to depart. Everyone, from reception, hotel manager, waiters and waitresses, have been polite, courteous and have delivered levels of service that we are more accustomed to in South East Asia.

Rooms are of an excellent size and have beautiful views of the sea. Given the impending nuptials we just went for a standard room but by European standards, the room itself was huge and our balcony was a perfect suntrap from first light until around 1:30 pm. We spent the rest of the afternoons lazing around on one of the daybeds by the pools.

The pools themselves look lovely and had it been later in the year (and therefore they'd have had time to warm up), we'd have been in them several times a day. The small beach is a bonus and looks like it would offer a nice starting point to snorkel around the rocks that surround the hotel (again, if the sea were a few degrees warmer!).

Food has been great, though my main course (steak and lobster) was a little cold in the restaurant on our first evening. Everything else we've eaten has been great though.

Location-wise, you're far enough away from Palma and close enough to the lovely port of Portals Nous, a feast for the eyes if you're a luxury yacht voyeur and also equipped with several very good (if pricey) restaurants. We paid about €8 to get there from the hotel by taxi and around €6 on the return home. We ate in Franklin's, in the outdoor terrace, surrounded by elaborate heaters and faux fur rugs to keep you warm (the wind gets up as the day progresses at this time of year). The food was lovely, especially the calamari and the veal chop. Both were simply prepared but the quality of the ingredients shone through.

We've stayed in some wonderful hotels around the world but the Melia De Mar has probably been the best in Europe both in terms of service and value. We are already planning our next trip here later in the year.

The Melia de Mar is located in beautiful grounds, with its own private coves, great pool and shaded areas.

Rooms are stylish and all have views of the sea, with private balconies. The hotel is well designed, calm and relaxing - perfect for a get away. A particular novelty is the four poster sun loungers in the grounds!

Situated in Illetas, Palma is very easily accessible either by regular bus or taxi.

I would love to return and would recommend it to anyone.

What an experience. It is a very beautiful resort. The hotel is located in a beautiful region -- scenic views. It is definitely a 5 star experience all the way. The staff is extremely professional and polite. Will definitely be back. It's expensive but worth every penny!

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floors are definitely more quiet. Should definitely get a room with an ocean view...

This was our second time at the hotel. Its extremely relaxing and a great place to stay. Rooms are spacious and great views. The food is nice and the staff are great.

The only probably I have is that the TV is too small and there are not enough English channels or movies available.

Again, highly recommended!

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights this September and had an amazing time.

The hotel, the grounds and the view are all spectacular. Our room was on the 6th floor and it was lovely to wake up to such glorious views. Room was spacious and well decorated. Nice balcony etc.

Breakfast was good with varied selection. We didn't eat any other meals at the hotel so can't comment on the quality - however it has to be said that the prices were reasonable for a five star hotel.

The general ambience of the hotel was relaxed and what really helped to contribute to this was the lack of children ...

We seldom return to the same hotel but would certainly consider a return visit here.

My wife and I are currently enjoying our 3rd visit to this Hotel. We first visited in 1999 and were especially taken by every aspect of the experience. We had our 6 year old son with us on that occasion and he too enjoyed it immensely. Time moves on and Hotel rules change and I have to say that the "adult only" development is most pleasing! Kids are fine but it's nice to know that adults have a special place to retreat to from time time - if you miss them too much sure there's always FaceTime or Skype! I'm going to refrain from repeating other contributors complementary comments. I endorse them all. This is a fabulous hotel. So I will focus on something else. Look at the accessibility for Palma. It is 15 minutes by Taxi or 25 by the number 3 bus which collects and drops within 100 metres of the hotel entrance. Portal Nous, the local answer to Porto Banus, is a brisk 30 minute walk away and in my humble opinion is much more refined and of course, Cala Major remains quaint and unspoilt by the ravages of tourism. We have stayed in other hotels in Illetas over the past ten years as we love the area but this Hotel holds the trumph card for a host of reasons - give it a try!

Room Tip: This depends on what you like to see. Unobstructed sea views are best from a high floor but the low...
