“Brilliant Holiday at Hotel Tropicana”
Reviewed September 1, 2010

Just returned with partner after a weeks holiday at the Hotel Tropicana. It is in a secluded spot but just what we wanted. The added bonus of a beach attached to the hotel was a bonus. The weather was brilliant and to swim in the clear blue waters of the Med was refreshing between the hot sun! A short hop over the rocks and you were in another cove where a catamaran ran to Porto Cristo, also a road train into the town which we didn't bother to visit. Rooms were in small bungalows on the large complex. After reading previous reviews I e mailed the hotel and asked for a room number lower than 100 as it was nearer to Reception. E mail was returned and request was carried out. The room was spotless and cleaners were brilliant. Only gripe was the mattress was uncomfortable. My husband had a birthday while we were there. The cleaners spotted the cards and left a birthday note, when we went to dinner the table was laid up with flowers and a candle and he was welcolmed with "Happy Birthday" from the waitress who then produced a bottle of champagne, A lovely touch! I have stayed in 5 star All Inclusives and I have to say the food here was better than any of the 5 Stars. Varied and cooked in front of you. We have gone on to a strict diet! Free sunloungers by the pool which we did not use as we loved the beach. Plenty of pool bars with the friendliest of staff. The beach bar had snacks such as salad, burgers, sausages, pizza, cake, fruit, just in case you were hungry! 2 sittings for dinner, we opted for the later one due to the heat. Lots of families but everyone was well behaved. Apart from people walking back to their rooms and chattering on the way there were no disturbances. The Brits were in the minority, lots of Italian, Spanish, German, French. The staff slipped in and out of all languages easily and there were no problems. I cant't wait to visit a 5 Star Riu Hotel. Brilliant I would recomend this to everyone. A thumbs up to Thomson who laid on a taxi at no extra cost as we were the only ones travelling to this location on our flight.

Returned on Monday after 10 days. Loved the secluded location of the hotel. The rooms were kept spotlessly clean, Food was great, loads of different choices, piping hot and delicious soups & salads. Staff great, if you talk to them they go out of their way to help you. Didn't have any need to see Thomson Rep.
This hotel has been unfairly commented on by people who probably complain about everything, this is a great 3* hotel & i would say if you want 5* pay more!!!

We stayed last week at the Riu Club Tropicana and had a fantastic time. I read a lot of the reviews before going and was aware of what we were going to be getting. We were in room 210 and this was a 10 minute walk from the main buildings and yes it was up some steep inclines but the hotel do put a taxi/ mini bus that runs every 10 minutes. The room was basic but spotless and the cleaner clean the rooms daily, there is no fridge, tea and coffee facilities or hair dryers in the room but these call all be hired from the hotel for a fee. If you contact the hotel before you arrival they will be able to arrange these before you arrival. The rooms also don’t have any air conditioning so you will need to leave you ceiling fan on all the time. The pool area was nice with a pool bar next to it but be warned as the hotel caters for a few different nationalities you will need to be there early or al least up your towel out to get a place. If you don’t manager to get round the pool the beach will have plenty of spaces. The beach is not all inclusive, so you will need to pay €11.55 for 2 sun lounges and a parasol, we paid for this a few days of our holiday as it was so hot round the pool it was nice to get the breeze from the sea. You will also need to pay for anything purchased at the beach bar where they do a range of drinks, ice creams and food.

The main building has the reception, restaurant, bar and kids club (we have no children so cant comment on this). The restaurant is big and the hotel do 2 sittings to cater for everyone, the food was nice but as previous comments the food did get a bit samie, there was a big choice and selection and they always cook some fresh meats or fish on the grill. There is a big seating area outside or the option to sit inside to watch the entertainment. We only watched a couple of shows and what we did see we really enjoyed.

The hotel is located in a cove and yes you do have to walk over some rock to the town and shops, this is not too bad and we when into the town on a couple of occasions, we went in the day but would not attempt it in the dark you can get a taxi from the hotel for €8.

Overall I was recommend this resort, its not for everyone and as the rooms are not in one main building this may put some people off but for us it wasn’t a problem. The only negative comment I can make if the other guests in the hotel the Italians are so rude.

Had a weeks holiday in Hotel Tropicana and had a fantastic time, great entertainment, the Grease show that was put on was just great as it was in English - yes most of the entertainment had to be in 5 different languages to cater of everyone but they did it with style and it was very entertaining. Kids club was fab. Appartments I could not falt and im picky - staff were really friendly and always smilling considering the difficult job they have to please everyone.

After reading some of the reviews on this site I was worried about what I might find, but upon arrival the worries soon disappeared with a little help from the bar!!

I travelling within a group of mixed ages from 7mths to 60yrs, and everyone was greated, welcomed and looked after to a high standard.

Yes the hotel is set out in a large complex and the rooms are set in blocks of 3 bungalow style rooms. Yes there is a hill and yes Spain does not have the same health and safely regs as the UK nor do they eat pie and chips every night.

The hill is not ideal although the hotel does a run a free shuttle bus that drives around the complex every ten minutes from 8am to 1130pm. Also you can order the bus to collect you from your room by calling reception free of charge.
Each night there is more than enough freshly cooked food to select from and the staff from the bin men to the management can not do enough for you. Everyone says hello or "Hola" and the more you interact with them then the friendlier the staff become to you.

The entertainment staff work all day everyday to ensure that the guest have a good holiday whether you want try your hand at shooting, water polo or just prefer to watch a fully committed enjoyable show at night you wont be disappointed.

The hotel is about a 15 minute drive from Cala a'dor and Porto cristo for those who want to get out and about and the hotel will provide a picnic if you order in advance. Car hire approx 99euro for 2 days.

There is a great beach accessible from the hotel and the hotel bar is within walking distance although the bar on the beach does not belong to the hotel. There is a sign saying no food or drink to be taken onto the beach but at no time was I challenged.

If you have any problems then the reception staff try their upmost to make your stay with them a good one.

I would certainly recommend this hotel and look forward to future RIU holidays.

Just returned after a week at RIU Club Tropicana well relaxed and happy. We arrived at the complex on a Thursday afternoon to be welcomed by polite helpful staff and a glass of sparkling wine.
We had rooms 75,76,77, close enough to the main facilities and far enough to be peaceful. 9 year old George as well as Nan and Pops in their 70s had no trouble getting about, although if we got a villa further away it may have been a problem.
I enjoyed the fact that the chalets were spread out in a large well maintained grounds so guests did not have to feel too close to noisy neighbours. Rooms are spacious clean and tidy with a good shower room attached. Beds were a bit hard for my liking and we had only one pillow for the first night but were provided with plenty more when asked. Fan a bit noisy but one got used to it and I did not miss air conditioning. Rooms were cleaned daily and sheets changed twice during the week pretty reasonable.
Food was plentiful and varied and the dining room spacious staff very helpful. We were served by Moni always smiling, for most of the week. All of us with our varied taste in food had something we liked.
There are several bars offering drinks almost round the clock (I did not need one between 01:00 and 08:00). Bar staff polite funny playful and helpful, all understood enough English. I made friends with Angelo who has a great sense of fun. Choice of wine, beer, and whisky were limited but one does not expect a lot more from a three star all inclusive.
Nearby public beach is beautiful, clear blue water and for the time of year not too crowded. Entertainment not too exotic but acceptable.
A nice child friendly resort and I would like to return sometime.

Just got back this morning and felt I needed to write this review just to put peoples minds at rest because after reading some of the reviews before I went I was worried.
Please do not even give it a second thought it was great, the place, the food, the staff everything was just what my family needed. Yes you do need to walk a little but no big deal, this is a holiday for people who like getting involved and can enjoy themselves not for people who want everyone speaking english and chips and eggs for tea and finished off with18 pints, thats the other side of the island you need.
We could not fault the staff both my children aged 15 and 7 enjoyed everyday if you want to chill you can but the more you do the more fun it is.
If have problems walking dont worry if you are above room 100 the bus runs every 15mins.
We are looking over the next fews days to book again for next year, thats how much fun we had.
Enjoy your holiday as much as we did.
