Just returned from a week at the club call barca and i can honestly say we all loved every minute of it. The party was made up of my parents (60+), my husband and me (30+) and our 6 year old and 3 year old. The hotel was lovely, very clean and spacious. Reception area was beautifully decorated and our room was clean, with TV, fridge and microwave (never had that on all inclusive before!!). The staff were amazing. They couldn't do enough for you, all very polite and brilliant with the kids.
The pools are cold, no two ways about it, but the kids didn't notice and enjoyed them thoroughly. The area around the pool was lovely, lots of trees for shade and grasses made it look lovely (and really nice flooring around pool area!!)
The beach is great, just small enough so the kids can run about and still feel safe. Not overcrowded though, so highly recommended. Kids went to Thomas Cook kids club which was very much enjoyed but could have done with it being on every day (Monday was a day off) but the fact it was done in 2 sessions, 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon meant the kids either did one or the other so we still got to see them.
There is 1 main buffet restaurant, 1 pizzeria / snack bar, 1 Mediterranean restaurant (reservation required) and 1 beach front restaurant (not included in all inclusive). The food on offer was amazing. The choice was fantastic. Breakfast covered every nationality you can imagine, full english, pastries, pancakes, toast, eggs, cereal, weird cheeses and everything else you can imagine. Lunch and dinner offered a similar choice with salads, chips, pizzas, pastas, stews, meat, fish, everything really you could want. I have a very awkward husband when it comes to food and even he had no complaints!!
The hotel is basically in the middle of nowhere!! We got a taxi into cala d'or which cost 9 euros each way on a couple of nights to do some shopping which was brilliant. We also hired a car and drove to Inca market (runs every thursday) which is massive and has a wide selection of leather belts, knock off sunglasses and handbags, clothes, jewellery and food. We also went to the pirates adventure show in Magaluf which was amazing. We hired a 7 seater car for 1 day which cost €105 for the day but if we had gone with the hotel run trip to Inca it would have cost more than that for us all to go, plus we saved money on the pirates tickets but driving ourselves there. Well worth considering as they add on at least €10 each to cover travel costs for pirates and charge about €25 each to go to Inca market. Its only an hours drive to Inca from the hotel and the same to get to Magaluf so easy enough to get around.
All in all, we loved this holiday. I would definitely recommend it and would go again at the drop of a hat.

Room Tip: Ask for a central room so you are closer to the restaurants, apparently blocks 11 and 12 are miles away from facilities.

We spent 5 nights at the Club Cala Barca, unfortunately due to poor descriptions of room types on the website we were placed far away from the main hotel and had to endure quite a walk to get to the facilities and restaurants (not ideal when paying for all inclusive). Had it been made clearer when booking we most certainly would have paid to upgrade. We traveled with two small children and my elderly parents.

We stayed at the Cala Barca for the June half term week with our 8 and 11 year old boys. This holiday was booked for the kids really. They had an absolutely fantastic time and would like to go back again at the earliest opportunity! We booked through Expedia, for just over £2k for the 4 of us including flights, we thought it was extremely good value. Don't book transfers through expedia though, they were absolutely useless, the guy got lost and took over 3 hours to get from the airport to the hotel which is less than 1 hour away in a taxi!!!

The room: Pros: We had a family room which basically is one bedroom, a lounge where the sofas convert into single beds for the kids, and a nice bathroom with shower. We stayed in block 54 which is very close to the restaurant area. The room was very clean and spacious.

Cons: Although it was a perfect location for us as our kids are a little older it may be considered very noisy if you were trying to settle little ones perhaps. There are shows by the pool every night so a lot of people walk past it on their way back to their rooms. Instead of a double bed, the rooms are set up with twin beds put together which I found annoying. In some other places we've stayed in before, although they had single beds, they had special double sheets which fitted on top and held both beds together, maybe Iberostar could invest in some?

The restaurants: Pros: Our expectations weren't very high as it is an all inclusive resort but we were pleasantly surprised. Although the food may not be amazing gourmet food, it was very nice with a wide choice of dishes, with all sorts of things for breakfast and freshly grilled meat & fish on the plancha in the evenings. One of my bugbears in hotels is how you have to get up at the crack of dawn and rush for breakfast. The lovely thing at Cala Barca is that the huge breakfast in served till 10.30, if you happen to miss it, you can still have a nice breakfast at the Pizzeria place till 12. They also have a "posher" place you can eat in the evenings but which you need to book (still included in the all inclusive price) which is in a nicer setting.

Cons: I've put too much weight on with all the free food and cocktails! They also had a conference on for a French Bank whilst we were there and when those people arrived, it got too busy with so many of them using the same facilities, and as they block booked the "posher" place, it was a little irritating.

Kids club: Pros: Well, I must say, I was truly amazed! My kids joined the Maxi club activities a few days into our holiday and absolutely loved it, the staff were just brilliant! It's all free and they can join a particular activity or lots of them as they please. You just turn up if you fancy it and that's it!

Cons: None whatsoever, give the girls a promotion!

All in all, we had a thoroughly relaxing holiday with the children. There isn't really much to do outside the hotel but that was fine with us for a week. We took a boat tour one day. I wanted to make a particular comment about the staff at the Iberostar, the HR manager must be doing something right, they all seem to work long hours, yet are always extremely pleasant, lovely and helpful, full of smiles! We have not come across a single grumpy person which in that industry I find amazing, from housekeeping, to waiters to kids clubs, they were all great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a break with kids.

A small tip: If you play tennis, bring rackets with you, it will save you hiring them as they have lots of courts to play on.

Just returned from a great week staying here. We took our two boys for a family holiday (aged 8 and 11). We took the all-inclusive option and can highly recommend it.
Room - We took a family room, centrally located. Clean, spacious and very well located. The only gripe would be that continental obsession with pushing two single beds together rather than the double we requested (what IS that all about? Are single beds really cheap to buy or something? bit odd, it's happened before in continental hotels)
Food - Good choice of restaurants, buffet style. Something for everyone, even the fussiest of kids. And a good selection of salads and veg as well - to make sure the kids got even close to eating something healthy! Even the inclusive wines were good/OK.
Drinks - From the cocktails to mocktails and everything in between. Very good!
Entertainment - Fun and varied, and although a bit rough and ready (tacky-ish?) it was all good fun and the boys loved it
Staff - from start to finish they were all amazing. Welcoming and fun, helpful and informative. Always ready with a 'hola' and endless/boundless/amazing energy. The kids were made so welcome and always loved everyone they met.
A special mention to Violetta and her staff who ran the kids club and the entertainment in general. They ran it all from dawn til dusk (literally) with permanent smiles and fun. They were amazing - I would love just a drop of whatever they were all on. Brilliant stuff. I can't remember the name of the girl with the frizzy long hair who did the sports stuff and ran the trip/excursion desk but she was also excellent.
Well worth booking for any family trip.
Excellent value. Top stuff.

Room Tip: Ask for a centrally located one. Block 54/55/56.

We arrived back a couple of weeks ago from a fantastic 10 day break at the Iberostar Club Cala Barca. We booked directly with the hotel and emailed in advance to request a central location as my two boys age 2 and 3 can't walk too far. Our room was perfect for us clean, spacious with neutral decor and not far to walk to the restaurants etc. We loved the hotel, the staff were brilliant really friendly and helpful and there was so many activities on offer. My 3 year old was able to join in with Thomas Cook kids club for 25 euros for the week which he really enjoyed. Food was great with a large varied selection and the mini disco and evening show was always entertaining. The nearby beaches were perfect for young children too, shallow clean waters and the beaches were small so easier to catch speedy 2 year olds! The only thing I would change would be the temperature of the pools - rather chilly in May (the sea was warmer). We hope to return again next year...in fact I would go again this year if we could afford to!

Room Tip: If you want to be central I would speak to Iberostar before you go, some of the rooms were quite far out of the main complex.
