“Great holiday”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We had a lovely holiday with our two children however, there were very few English speaking guests so my children didn't really make any friends.
We upgraded to premium all inclusive and it was definetly worth the extra money. The beach restaurant is lovely but unless you upgrade it isn't part of the regular all inclusive package. The other restaurants in the complex are extremely good. The whole complex is spotless. Porto Petro is a lovely little town about 5 mins away in a taxi. Cala D'Or is about 15/20 mins drive away, it's a much bigger resort and I'd say it's very lively at night time. I would have no hesitation recommending club cala barca.

We stayed at Club cala barca from The 5TH to the 12TH sept, when we booked in we were told a car would take us to our rooms,we thought that was good of them but soon realised that we where at the very back of the complex and had half a mile to walk to the resturants and entertainment , we felt we were not part of the hotel and the walk back from the main block is all uphill ,there was a pool at our block that was small ,the snack bar was limited only soft drinks and beer and it was closed for 4 of the days during our stay, the rooms there did not seem like 4*more like 3* the entertainment was ok for childern but not so good for adults ,be careful when booking this hotel it is more suited to young familys not couples and you may end up in a room far away from the main block it is a very large complex.

Room Tip: make sure you know where the room is before accepting it low numbers are nearer the main block

Dear Brian,

We are very grateful for the review you wrote. It is our goal to achieve excellence in our daily work and no one better than our guests can indicate us how to improve day after day.

We are sorry that the location of your room was not in accordance with your preferences. We always strive to make our guests feel comfortable and as all clients have different needs and desires, in Iberostar Club Cala Barca we have different room types, views and rates available. On our web page or through our call center you can be informed of the specific features of each in order to choose the one that best suits your particular conveniences. The block you were allocated in could obviously not satisfy your expectation however other guests, looking for tranquility and peace in the gorgeous setting of the nature park we are located in, wish to be further away of the main facilities. To guarantee that next time you become the kind of accommodation you are yearning for, we would be delighted to give you a hand.

Further, we feel sad that the entertainment for adults wasn´t of your liking. We do our utmost to bring performances of good taste, variety and suitability for all kind of public. We believe that the real holiday feeling goes hand in hand with entertainment and therefore we passed your constructive critics to the head of department to revise and if necessary adjust the program that offers countless top sports and leisure activities to make your time in Cala Barca a playful challenge.

On the other hand, it is very enjoyable to read that you find that the animation for our little guests was satisfying. We lay much worth on their well being whilst staying with us and we are proud to see that in your opinion we are doing a good work.

In name of all of the staff we thank you again for your visit, we were all delighted to have you among us, and we would be honored if in the not too distant future we have the pleasure to welcome you back in our Iberostar Club Cala Barca.

Yours sincerely,

I've just got back from a one-week girls' holiday in Iberostar Club Cala Barca and we had a great time. We were fortunate to get a good room in block 46 just a minute from the beach, and two or three minutes from the bigger pools, food and entertainment. We were after a relaxing holiday and that's exactly what we got - we had plans to leave and explore Mallorca but ended up staying in the resort for most of the holiday moving between the beach, the pools and the bars. We never even made it as far as the spa!

The rooms itself was fine, perhaps not four star by UK standards, but for what we paid for the holiday it was far better than we had expected. It had a TV, microwave, fridge, air-con and hairdyer and was cleaned regularly.

The food was probably the best bit of the holiday, just amazing - in our small group was one gluten intolerant and one lactose intolerant person but there was such a wide variety to choose from it wasn't a problem at all. There were all sorts from fresh fish, paella and other traditional rice dishes, Spanish omelette, and then things like pizza and chips for the less adventurous. The food changed every day and I think you could probably eat there for several weeks without getting bored - you might get fat though!

We ate at the Mediterranean restaurant, the pizzeria and the main food hall and all were great. The main food hall had wine and beer on tap and the others had bars where you could get anything from cava to cocktails. The all-inclusive (which it seemed everyone had and I would wholeheartedly recommend) includes all drinks except the beach bar - but the beach bar is literally a small flight of steps away from the nearest pool bar where you can get all-inclusive drinks. It also includes food at almost any time of day up until 9.30/10pm.

There is a small parade of shops which sell snacks, alcohol and bits and bobs, and these all seemed quite reasonably priced.

I can see why it might be a bit scary for groups and couples in the summer when the resort is full of families, but I would never go on holiday during this time and just outside of peak season (mid September) we had no problems getting sunbeds at any time of day, or spots on the beach. It was mainly couples and very young families. The weather was still fantastic and we only had one day with any cloud which happened to be the one day we went out exploring.

The resort seems to appeal a lot to Germans and about 80% of the people there seemed to be from Germany but this also didn't bother us as we were happy to do our own thing and I can't see why anyone would give a bad review based on this!

The entertainment was typical of holiday resorts but enjoyable with a few drinks and the bar stays open until 1am. The nearest 'buzzy' town, Cala D'or, is an 11Euro taxi ride away.

The staff are polite, friendly and extremely efficient and went out of their way to make sure we had a fab holiday. All in all I am pretty depressed to be back in the rainy UK and can't wait to re-book for next year. Who knows, we may even get to go exploring this time...

Room Tip: Block 46 is very close to the beach

ok so going to give an honest review. just come back from a week here with my partner and 1 year old daughter.
room was ok was in block 72 right near reception pools parks etc. just had no railings on the balconys! rooms were clean but need updating!
cleaners did a great job and always made daughters cot with her blankets and teddys (very cute) at this hotel you cannot fault the staff they cant do enough for you and very helpful. a receptionist helped us with our bags. had to pay for a kettle though as we needed to do daughters bottles. bit silly and could of done with coffee facilities although we were all inclusive so not a big deal just nice to have a coffee without having to go to the restaurant!
TIP...eat in the medittarrean restaurant, you have to book the day before but the main restaurant is like a cattle market! some days couldnt get a seat had to stand around for someone to leave! not good when your children need to eat! food was ok breakfast was poor not enough variety and cater for the germans definately not the english! yes this place is full of germans!!! who by the way are the rudest ignorant people i have ever met!!!!!! they ruined my holiday. there is an open top bus that takes you into cala d'or, cala mondeago etc....well this is our story.....2 days we waited at this stop for the bus both times early before people got there so we were at the front of the queue for the bus, did we get on? no! the ignorant germans pushed me out of the way both times whilst holding my daughter to get on the bus! yes just pushed me out of the way. so both times we couldnt get on and had to pay 12 euros each way for a taxi instead of the 1 euro 65 for the bus! fuming! although this wasnt the staffs fault this is what it was like to stay here as this hotel is just full of germans. 5% were english, we were told this by the english kids group guy. the evening entertainment couldnt be watched hardly ever either as 1. there just isnt enough seats for everyone!! and 2. the 1 night we got a seat right at the front when my partner went to get a drink a german family took all my chairs and sat right in front of me!!!!!!!!!!
spent most of our holiday in cala d'or which is beautiful and the food at the restaurants were amazing...would stay here next time.
the cleanliness of the hotel was very good couldnt fault it just a shame more people werent english! had hardly anyone to talk to!! we met 1 english family who stayed in block 11 self catering...they had no cooking facilities! even we had a microwave and we were all inclusive which was just stupid!
there are 4 pools...1 big windy pool in the main area which there isnt much space around it to be honest, a small kids pool and 1 pool up by block 11 which is ages away! and another up by the parks which was definately the better pool to be at, not so busy and also had a pool bar. big pool too. no pool bar up at block 11! if there was it wasnt open. sunbeds not unlocked til 10am either people queued up from 930 ish to reserve the best ones then gone for ages so a lot of empty beds with towels on for hours which was annoying! not a lot to do here in the evening apart from the entertainment which you cant even watch half the time. cant get snacks either after half 9! so if your hungry..tough. i phoned reception and asked if we could get any food was told only popcorn!!! ha joke. will never stay in an iberostar hotel again (unless they paid me or gave me half price holiday hahahaha) also there are steps everywhere!!! not good with a pram even the ground floor apartments where we stayed had steps!
i wouldnt stay here again.

Dear guest,

We are very sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow us to express our sincerest apologies. At Iberostar Club Cala Barca, we continuously strive to meet your needs and desires; therefore your feedback is very important to us.

Iberostar crew will continue working to improve some of our services and facilities and we took good note about the difficulty you experienced to enjoy the restaurant or animation at rush hours and we will do our best find solutions to expedite this matters.

Further, we regret your disappointment about the room because we always attempt that our guests feel very comfortable and well installed. We are aware that there are a few steps to access the apartment and therefore we always try to be proactive and help with the luggage upon arrival. Especially the terraces of block 72 are attractive as they are quiet big and separated with decorative stone walls that integrate perfectly in the virgin landscape.

Nevertheless, we have read your remarks on the quality of food and drinks with a lot of attention and we are grateful that you shared your opinion as this will certainly help us to improve. As we speak, our responsible chef and maitre are revising the procedures to ensure that our demanding quality standards are encountered and to guarantee that all palates will be delighted with our culinary offers. We pay the finest attention to detail when it comes to remarkably prepared food and unmatched service. We are very sorry that you did not experience a gastronomic holiday to the Mediterranean like none other. Whether young or old and regardless where you come from, normally you will find dishes sure to please your palate from international cuisine to the best Mallorca or Spanish delis at our buffet restaurants and bars.

On the other hand, we would like to thank you for your kind words towards our staff. As all of them work very hard, striving to surpass guest expectations, we will definitely pass on your satisfaction with their services. They will surely celebrate that you wrote that they were very nice and most helpful.

Also, we are very satisfied that you are so enthusiastic about the cleanliness of the in- and outside installations, this is a must for our company. Reading that you find all spotless, fills us with joy and proud. We thank you for high lighting this characteristic.

Nevertheless, we understand that for you this might not be the best location for your dream holiday. Therefore we would like to point out that we have different types of accommodation at disposal and for coming occasions, we would like to offer you a very personal booking guidance through our call center, to make sure you become what you actually desire. We also invite you to visit our web page as it can orient you when planning your next holiday.

Faithfully yours,

We stayed at the Cala Barca for a week from the 11th Sept. There was 8 of us all together including 2 toddlers and we couldn’t fault the place. The complex was immaculate, the service was brill and the entertainment staff were hilarious (especially Manuel). There was 3 pools situated throughout with complex all with their own bar, there was no need to fight for sun beds as there was plenty for everyone. The shows were decent especially the rock show the lead singer was great! The food was completely out of this world! So much choice and Pizza, chips and pasta every meal for the kiddies which was ideal. Its definitely worth booking in the other restaurant for a finer selection (don’t get me wrong though the main restaurant was amazing too). There’s a lovely little park for the kids and of course the kids clubs but ours were too young to join although they were happy for them to come along with our supervision. There’s a bus stop out the front that goes to cala dor for 330 return and also there’s always Taxis parked out front. If I had to give any negative feedback the beach was full of seaweed and the sea was very rocky but if you walked 10 minutes round the coast there was a lovely little cove that was beautiful! We will definitely be returning!

Room Tip: Book through a travel agent or you could end up in the dreaded block 11 (20 mins ish walk from the r...

Me and partner stayed here from the 2nd sept to the 10th. We had booked self catering as we both like trying new places / foods. We knew this hotel was a slight distance from local towns we expected to travel slightly. Sadly the bus service wasnt the best and there are no restaurants shops etc nearby other than what is in the resort. Therefore we both upgraded to all inclusive. This cost us 44 euros each per day. Although we were slightly disapointed about this i must say that the food and drinks are very good. Theres always at least one restaurant serving food and there is SO much choice. Only neagtive about meal times is the sheer amount of people in the dining halls. Not always easy to find a table ect.

The hotel is great, modern and very clean and i cannot speak highly enough of the staff. They simply do not stop, always very friendly and helpful. We were put in block 12 which is quite far away from the main hotel (about 7 minute walk) and as far as i could see it was the same as the dreaded block 11. Sadly these are not 4 star rooms, more 3 star. My partner and I were disapointed with the room and did consder requesting to be moved, but as only really used the room to shower / sleep we decided to stay put. please note, the rooms wern't the best but were very very clean. I must add tho... when we had a problem with the rooms drains the hotel had this fixed within the hour. Once again the staff are great.

There is a small beach which is rocky but perfect for snorkling and the new beach bar is lovely to spend time in (although not included in all inclusive). Also i highly recomend the boat trip which picks people up twice daily from the beach. 19 euros each. Best to take this boat trip at the start of the holiday as it takes you to all of the little towns bays, therefore you get an idea of whats around and where you would like to visit for the day.The night time entertainment was good and real effort was put into all shows.

We did not spend much time at the main pool as this was FULL of children and never any spare beds. There is a other pool near the tennis courts which is much better. The hotel is very much for familes and if we knew how much im not sure we would have booked. But although it wasn't what we expected we did have a lovely, relaxing holiday. and if your thinking of taking children away then i could not recomned this place more.

so all in all great hotel / Excellent staff/ pretty remote and not ideal for couples

Room Tip: tray not to stay in block 11 or 12

Fantastic evening entertainment. Go half board and upgrade to all drinks for extra 12 euros per person per day. Very close to gorgeous sandy beach. Good selection of food. Breakfast fantastic. Good service at drinks bar. Very few English. Mainly Germans and Spanish. Can't get sunbeds until 10am.
