“Should have stayed closed!”

Was classed as 3* but prob more like 2* On arrival we were asked to pay a deposit of 10 Euros each for the AI wristband. The rooms were basic but clean, towels were changed daily but they looked a bit discoloured and stained. Restaurant was like a school canteen! crowded, claustrophobic, staff were rude and unfriendly, crockery was chipped and cutlery could have been cleaner. Food was repetative but it usually is on AI. We had to drink out of plastic cups all of the time (I can understand it around the pool but not in the bar and restaurant). All inclusive was very limited, you could only get two drinks on each visit to the bar even though it was obvious you were in a group of four! Only two bars (one being mainly for families which was down in the basement and not very inviting) the other was quite nice but both bars didn't open until 8.30pm and closed to AI customers at 10.30pm.You weren't allowed to sit outside on the balcony of the bar unless you paid for your drinks. The animation team were ok but seemed to cater mainly for the french or the young girls. Would not recommend this hotel and certainly won't return. Cala D'Or was nice, the marina is just down from the hotel. Shops and beach about a fifteen minute walk.

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Puerto Del Sol, all in all it was a pleasant stay.
To get the negatives out of the way first; upon arrival at the hotel (10.30pm) the receptionist who spoke fairly good English showed us to the dining room for some food and drinks, the food that night was very poor (cold meat and stale bread - obviously saved from the evening meal that night which ends at 8.30pm). After a quick drink we went back to reception and he showed us to our room, which upon first opinion was very big and very clean. It wasn't until I went into the bathroom that I discovered the toilet, floor and wall were dirty with faeces. We immediately went back to the receptionist who in the space of 10 minutes had lost all ability to speak English, eventually telling us that he was only a night porter and couldn't do anything about the dirty toilet which would be dealt with in the morning - surely he was in a better position to do something about it than we were as paying customers. Due to this we had to use the toilets in the reception area for that night as both me and my girlfriend refused to use the one in our room.
The following morning arrived and the toilet issue was sorted and everything from that point onwards was enjoyable and ultimately lead to an enjoyable stay. One thing to add is that we did get allocated a marina view room which are usually only for people who had paid the premium for these, the views were fantastic!
I am not in a position to comment much on the food as we only ever used the all inclusive for our breakfasts - plenty of choice but nothing too special, restaurant area clean with very efficient staff. All drinks were served in plastic cups, which wasn't much of an issue other than towards the end of the day there would often be rather a lot of empty ones around the pool areas that guests hadn't bothered to put in the bins provided, this did make the pool areas look a little untidy on some days. Spirits provided by the bar were only cheap quality so didn't compare to Smirnoff, archers etc, although ice cold San Miguel was very nice!
All three pools were very well maintained however we only ever used the adults only pool as this was very quiet and relaxing, the main pool with the pool bar got extremely busy and loud. One thing we did notice around the adults only pool was the amount of smokers, which as a non smoking couple did affect us, there was hardly a 5 minute slot in the day where nobody was smoking.
As mentioned by others, the management of this hotel do need to address the fact that only paying customers ( after 10.30pm) were allowed access to the beautiful bar terrace that overlooked the marina, surely we paid enough for the holiday in the first place?
The very best thing about this hotel is the location which would be hard to better. The marina was only a 30 second walk from our room, and what a marina it was! The centre of town was a 10 minute walk away around the marina, something we enjoyed doing each evening.
Overall once the issues with the dirty bathroom had been sorted we did have a very enjoyable stay, and the resort is very nice. Would we stay again? probably if the hotel stepped away from the solely all inclusive option as this wasn't really for us, and if the receptionist from the first night had some lessons in customer service.

Room Tip: Marina view rooms are fab!

We booked this holiday as a last minute deal and had read some of the reviews and were concerned by some of the comments. We shouldn't have been worried at all.

We arrived at midnight and were immediately shown to the restaurant to have some food and a drink. We were then taken to our apartment. We were expecting a one bedroom apartment but were pleasantly surprised to have a two bedroom apartment. It was huge with 2 bathrooms and 2 balconies. The only negative was that we were right at the top of the complex near to the main road but this didn't really bother us as at night we shut all the windows and had the air-conditioning on.

As we have 2 boys (10 and 7) we stayed by the main pool which includes the pool bar. The pool is great and is very clean. You do tend to feel a bit like sardines with the sunbeds being packed in closely and you do have to get your towels down to the pool by 8.30am to get a good spot!

The entertainment staff were great. There is so much to do if you want to but you also don't feel that you have to join in. They all seemed to speak good English and did everything in French and English. The only small negative we could find was that some of the entertainment was in the pool which meant you couldn't really use it for that hour. We went to the basement entertainment area once. This was mainly aimed at the French guests and it was actually quite funny to see what keeps the French entertained! Certainly different to us Brits. Most evenings we would go to the main bar and play cards. This is where my main issue with the complex is. There is no real atmosphere of an evening. As mentioned in previous reviews, there are some lovely outside areas that could be used, but these were locked until the All Inclusive times had finished at 10.30pm. A couple of evenings we went into Cala D'Or and enjoyed the atmosphere of sitting in a bar and watching the world go by.

The hotel is obviously French owned and when we first arrived it did feel as though we were the only English guests but as the holiday went on we met more and more Brits and the boys made loads of friends.

The food is of a really good standard and this really surprised us. We have never been all-inclusive before and were a bit worried about it. We never had a mealtime where there wasn't something good to eat - we even had Fajitas one night which were lovely. The drinks are served in plastic cups but this isn't an issue. The ice creams and slush puppies during the day went down well with our boys (if we could get them out of the pool!!).

All in all, we had a really good holiday and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a fun holiday with good food, good drinks in a clean hotel for a good price.

My mum and I stayed in Puerto del Sol for a week in August.initially, we were given a ground floor room (#40) which was dreadful - dark, shabby and with the most awful beds I have seen for a long time - there were literally visible holes in the matress (if you can call it that). The balcony was really low and only a jump away from the grounds and my mum was a bit weary about that. How could you put too women on the ground floor when anyone could easily jump in at night??Anyway, as it was very late, we decided to stay there for the night and request to be moved in the morning. To add to the experience, there was no hot water that night. My mum had back pain in the morning after sleeping on that horrible bed so we rushed to the reception and requested to be moved. To give them credit, this was done very efficiently to be honest. We moved to room #168 which was very nice - marina view, spacious and clean, so we were very happy.
The food was ok, a bit blant at times but lots of vegetables and always a few meat options so it did the job. The thing I did not like about the restaurant was that it just did not look clean somehow (despite the staff working very hard). The plates and cups - they just looked dirty as if they have not been washed with washing detergent but just plain hot water! The chairs did not look very clean, especially the baby chairs (I heard a couple complain about that). There was no ventilation so the grill station was literally transforming the place into a smokey hot room (not very nice when it was hot outside). We were always rushing to sit at a table near the windows which was the furthest from the grill.
We did not use the swimming pools at all as they stunk of chlorine so much it was sickening. We were walking to Cala Gran beach every morning instead after breakfast which was about 20 min and very nice walk to a beautiful beach.
The location of the hotel is very convenient for the tourist train and also for the bus to Palma (bus stop is just outside the hotel on the main road). We went to Palma for a day and had a very nice time, I do recomment it. The hotel was organising a trip to Palma for 40 EUR pp but honestly no need to pay this money. It cost 8.40 EUR one way on the bus and you can get the bus timetable from reception.
I cannot comment on the entertainment as we did not hang around in the hotel in the evenings as we prefered a stroll to the marina or the central town for a nice drink after dinner.
All in all, we had a nice holiday and the hotel was not horrible but it was not great either. I would not return.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the ground floor rooms (the ones without the little kitchenettes).

This hotel is clean and the complex is huge! Stayed here July 2013 with a friend. The rooms are large and clean and maids clean daily. The complex is absolutely huge. Drinks and food are of good standard. We were put in a bottom floor room with the patio doors leading onto the pool however this attracted bugs! We asked to move and we moved immediately to a first floor spot which was lovely. There's a couple of stairs down to the pool area and stairs down to the resturant, I have slight motability problems but coped. Pools really very clean and the area is spotless. Walk out the complex from the pool at the back and you are on the fabulous marina, there's a supermarket right outside. Also there is a train that you can get for €3.50 return that takes you to 12 stops, 3 of the stops are to the beaches which are a definite to visit. If you walk around the marina at night it's beautiful, eat at Cala D'or yautch club! I didn't think we could afford but they have a weekday deal on mon - fri Definietly worth an experience, it has an infinity pool right on the section where you dine. If you walk round the marina which is 15 minute stroll max, and I walk extremely slow, there's a set of stairs, go up these stairs, walk straight across and you'll come to cala D'or town, full of bars and restaurants worth a visit for something lively. The train stops outside the hotel, literally outside the reception, or get the train literally outside the back of the hotel. I'd recommend this hotel and would stay again. If you have a late flight and need to check out your room, it's not a problem as the area to get showered is almost like a 5 star Hilton hotel! Lots of German and French but it didn't spoil my holiday, why would it?!!!! I didn't go away to make friends! However met a lovely British couple with two daughters. Kors of entertainment and water areobics at the pool

Room Tip: Go for 1st floor rooms to avoid bugs from the grass just as you'd get at home, I'm only talk...

I didn't expect much from this hotel but I thought all in all it was good for what we had paid. The location is really good, right by the harbour, near town and near to the beaches. There is a train that will take you to other parts, taxis aren't too pricey and there are buses too. We also did a few trips such as a boat ride and a trip to the caves so there is plenty to do round this area but it is very family based.

The staff are friendly but some of them are limited in their English but we were able to keep in touch with one that spoke perfect English. The staff in the restuarant are very busy and this can soemtiems seem like they are being a bit rude but I could see how hard they were working. We had our beds made and fresh towels each day. The rooms are basic but I was expecting that and the 2 bedroom apartments are nicer then the smaller rooms. Our wardrobes smelt a bit strange so I chose to hang my clothes elsewhere and there is a fridge but no cups or plates, but other then that I didn't really have anything to complain about the room.

The food had a good range of choice such as meats, different fish, plenty of veg, salad bar, pasta, chips, potatos, paella, pizza, breads, mussels, fruit, cheeses, ice cream, cakes. Yes it got a bit boring by the end of our two weeks but that is what happens with all inclusive. There are plenty of resturants around the harbour and in town if you want something different. I did not go to the entertainment but I heard it wasn't great. There are a lot of french people at the hotel and the entertainment seems more geared to french people then english, I didn't find this a problem but a lot of people kept assuming we were french and speaking to us in french.

All in all we (as a party of 8 ranging in ages 10-50) had a great holiday and enjoyed staying in this hotel :)

Excellent food and staff. Accommodation spacious and clean. Lovely area. Nowhere nice to sit and have a drink after the pool bar closes at 20.00 because the entertainment area is in a basement and is too crowded. The only other bar is small and outside is packed with smokers.

Room Tip: Marina view is great. Restaurant is very hot and so avoid July/Aug.
