“3rd lovely holiday at the Rocamarina”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

We recently returned from our 3rd stay at the Rocamarina and once again had a lovely time. The food is very good with plenty of choice including some show cooking. The staff are very friendly. We had a ground floor room overlooking the inner garden which we like a it does get a bit of shade later in the day, also it is very quiet.
The daytime games and quizzes organised by Yzzy and Mike were fun. Yzzy and Mike are a lovely couple. The evening entertainment was good, especially the comedian Paul (can't remember his last name) and the Sundaes. Graham Powell was good although his act hasn't changed since last year.
The only downside was the transfers from the airport, it would seem that Thomson no longer give 'Gold' first drop off to these hotels, some people were on the coach for three hours getting to the hotel, the trip should only take about 50 mins.Hopefully Thomson will put this right.

Rant over, will we be returning to the Rocamarina - yes we will.

We had an unexpected week's stay at the Rocamarina because the apartment we had originally booked through Owners Direct was so dreadful that we had no alternative but to find a hotel.
The hotel is located out of the main centre of Cala d'Or but is still close to a decent range of shops and restaurants. A taxi into Cala d'Or costs around 6 Euros each way.
Our room was very comfortable with efficient air conditioning. We also had a fridge which was very handy. The room had a flat screen TV with a several English channels. The balcony was a good size and had padded furniture.
This is a Thomson Gold hotel so lots of activities going on during the day and good quality entertainment in the evening. The Thomson team work hard but sometimes their enthusiasm to keep people entertained was a little intrusive and could be described as rather Hi de Hi in style. However their efforts are generally much appreciated by guests. If your are looking for a quiet retreat then this is not the hotel for you. If you like getting to know people and joining in the fun you couldn't ask for a better place to be. It's so friendly and relaxed that many guests return year after year.
The pool area is a bit squashed but very well maintained. The garden area is a good choice for sunbathing. We found the sunbeds here more comfortable than those around the pool.
Breakfast was excellent and food at the bar was also of good quality. Prices for drinks we felt were very reasonable. All in all a very good value hotel that really looks after it's guests.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Rocamarina and a first time in a 'Gold' hotel. On first impressions it seemed that we were the youngest guests here (the eldest in our party is 57) but as the week went on we appreciated the fact there were no children or drunken 'Brits abroad'. The food is excellent as is the service, especially by the waiters. The entertainment is brilliant, certainly the best we have seen on many holidays abroad. Izzy and Mike are very good and you can do as much or as little as you want. Chris & Wendy - Vegas - are also very entertaining. The worst act of the week was the Bee Gees, they also did the Phil Collins night and at that they were very good!

I felt Thomson have changed the way they do things slightly and not for the better - you don't get a rep on your coach when you go to your hotel, so you have no way of knowing how long it will take or which order the drops to the hotels will be, and again on returning there is no rep around when you get the coach back to the airport, our coach was 25 minutes late and there was no rep to chase it up - the receptionist at the hotel did this for us.

Steve the head Thomson rep was very knowledgeable about the island, we wanted to go to Palma for the day but were dissuaded from using the public transport as it goes through every town and would take too long so we did the Thomson excursion to Palma, which is only approx. an hour away, but it took us two and a half hours to get there after stopping at various hotels along the way, I am sure the public bus doesn't take that long.

We had been to Cala D'or before and wanted to go into the centre, we were going to get the bus but as we had just missed one, we decided to get a taxi - this only cost 6 euros, so if there is 4 of you it is cheaper and much quicker to get a taxi as the train costs 2 euros per person each way.

All in all a lovely week and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Front of hotel gets the sun on balcony in the morning, the rooms at the rear get it all afternoon.

This is our 2nd year in a row staying at the Rocamarina and we love it. The "adult only" and half board work perfectly. The staff are all helpful and cheerful. The food is excellent, the hotel clean and the facilities ideal. The beds we found quite firm but a very minor niggle. A very chilled out break and we will back next year.

We recently stayed at the Rocamarina for a fortnight and would recommend it to anyone in the over 50's age group. The hotel is clean and friendly and the food is plentiful and tasty. All the hotel staff are really keen to please and as it is family run they really look after you. The entertainment at night and during the day, provided by Mike and Izzy, is excellent. Steve the Thomson rep was so helpful and full of information on what to do and where to go. We went on the Orange Blossom Express Tour which was amazing. You get to see so much of the beautiful landscape and visit Soller and Port Soller. We went on the night excursion to Sonamar which is the best show we have seen for a long time. We also went on the Free Blanket Trip which was so good we would have willingly paid money for it. We got a guided tour of the Island and then free time in Palma and it was a lovely day out thanks to Jane and Phil. We went to a few places by ourselves on the local bus - Caves of Drach and Santanyi to the market. We also did the walk into Porto Petro with Chris who is very knowlegable. We went to the local beach and also used the pool in the hotel. They have an excellent policy of not opening the pool until 9.00am which means people can't put their towels on sunbeds at stupid o'clock and then not use them. The hotel is located at Cala Egos which is one of several bays in the Cala D'or area. We were only a short walk from Cala D'or centre but Cala Egos also had everything you could want. We were also near to the beautiful port/harbout area with lots of fantastic resaurants and bars. All in all it was an excellent holiday with days spent lounging on the beach or by the pool and days out seeing what Mallorca has to offer. We can't wait to go back next year!

Just back from Rocamarina. Had a great stay, food was excellent, plenty of choice no reason for anyone to go hungry. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Everything about the hotel was 'Gold' unfortunately the thomson side of things could have been better. The thomson rep told us there was no bus to the felanitx Sunday market but suspecting there was we checked with hotel reception who gave us all the details and we enjoyed our trip, you would have thought that having been there all season the reps would have an idea of what markets were on and how you could get there. The feature entertainment was good on the whole, however the nightly dose of 'Peter's and Lee' was too much to bear and we went elsewhere after the main feature. then there was the in house entertainment team, one of whom was constantly trying to be wacky ! We nicknamed her 'domestos' because that's an irritant too. Perhaps the best morning entertainment were the morons who formed a queue to get a sunbed, its not as if there weren't more than enough. Some people found the tables in the dining room too close together. we were sat next to some people who said the previous 'neighbours' didn't stop talking the whole meal time and ruined it for them. i'm sure if they had mentioned it to the head waiter he would have helped them, nothing too much trouble. would we go again ? for sure

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the shopping centre. This is the main road in and out and was very noisy f...

Another lovely holiday at the Rocamarina. Everything first class as usual - food, cleanliness, facilities, service and location - everything you need for a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable holiday. So nice to have the choice of the pool area, sun deck, garden, tennis club pool or beach. The new sunbeds round the pool were also a welcome addition this year. Plenty of entertainment from the hardworking Thomson team but no pressure to take part. Full marks to the Management!
