I previously stayed at Rocamarina in July 2010 (see my review “A little piece of old England...”
Reviewed 27 July 2010).
I returned in July 2013 as a fairly last minute booking and I have to say I was really pleased to be back.
Not much has changed overall except that everything seemed to have improved slightly from my last visit.
The restaurant manager, Juan, does a great job in keeping the restaurant (and the guests seating requirements!) running efficiently.
The quality and the freshness of the food has improved considerably from a previously good standard. The food is kept hot and many more dishes are now prepared freshly in front of you. I even had grilled fresh squid which was excellent. There is something unusual about eating Apple Crumble or Bread and Butter Pudding in +30C temperatures...but it is undeniably delicious!
The hotel left a bottle of Cava in our room as a "Thank you" for being a returning guest....an unexpected and pleasant surprise!
The Tenis (yes that's how they spell it) Bar was even better than I remember, offering some absolutely delicious dishes. One of the waiters remembered us from 3 years ago!
The whole area of Es Forti and Cala Egos appears to have smartened up over the past 3 years with some fairly new shops and restaurants/bars.
I'm beginning to understand why people return year after year!
I would like there to be a little more regional/Spanish entertainment put on at Rocamarina - perhaps a Spanish Guitar player for an hour a couple of times a week. I'm afraid I got a little bit bored with the resident duo who, although undoubtedly talented, tended to cover every song in a Neil Diamond style.
However, overall, I've added an extra star this time round. May be, like Rocamarina, I'm improving with age :-0
