“Beautiful location,great hotel”
Reviewed September 10, 2013 via mobile

This is my fourth visit to ponent playa and as always still great
The hotel Is situated on near a fabulous cove, the sea views are superb. Unfortunately this time we didn't get one, we were allocated to the annex which did have a pool view, tried to pay extra for a sea view but was told hotel was full, and to come back later in the week. As we were only stopping a week we thought we would manage as the room and view was not unpleasant ... The cleaning staff were fantastic a real credit to the hotel, the lady who cleaned room 321 from 3rd to 9th September was superb a credit to Barcelo.
Lots to do in the hotel and surrounding area,
Try Bon sol cafeteria for good reasonable food & carabel bar for happy hour from 7 til midnite !! Where felippe will entertain you
Overall very enjoyable stay

Just got back from a week at Barcelo Ponent Playa and we loved it! Very good location, right on a lovely beach and just a 5 min walk to the main set of restaurants and bars. The hotel is 3* and that is what you get! The room that we had was VERY basic, but clean and what you could expect from the price! Having gone in september the hotel was still very busy, at dinner time you had to get to the restaurant early or else there would literally be nowhere to sit! Same with breakfast, we tried to go down at 10am (finishes at 10:30) and we couldn't find a table for ages and when we did there was no cutlery, quite annoying but not enough to ruin a holiday! Although I can imagine going in August would be a nightmare! The food was very nice, and quite a lot of choice! Especially at lunch time at the beach bar, which was lovely to sit at, right on the beach! The entertainment at night was very good from what we saw (went into the town most nights!) they definitely work hard! The cleaners do a very good job in the rooms and are always very nice when you see them around. Cannot comment on the pool so much as we were on the beach most days (sun loungers are 12 euros a day) although we did notice some entertainment around the pool area most days. All in all, Cala D'or is a brilliant place for a holiday, everything is only a short walk away and the beaches are gorgeous. The hotel was fine, not spectacular but again not awful! The seaview rooms looked rather nice (we were on the other side) so that maybe a good idea to upgrade to if you spend a lot of time in your room. Personal preference plays a big part at this hotel, it all depends on what you like, the hotel itself is very well run and you are looked after as expected.

Booked this for a surprise for my husband returned with food poisoning.
Rooms really basic but so clean
Service good
All inclusive upgrade was reasonable but small selection of drinks included which is ok for me but only 1 white red or rose wine available and comes in a bottle bit of a waste if fancy just a glass.
Typical buffet food selection wouldn't return because of the food which is a shame as location for me was amazing and room 658 had a brilliant sea view.

Very nice location, nearby the Caves of Drachs (25 km) . The sandy beach right next to the hotel, perfoct for families with children. The rooms are basic , but clean. The half board is just enough . The dinner was very diverse , with tematic food every night. We would come back any other time!

Room Tip: we reccomend sea view rooms . they are more quiet.

we just got back and was very disappointed over all, the good points was the location one of the best we've been to, the hotel was very clean and they work very hard to keep it this way, we did not find many staff that could smile [not rude but not friendly]the rooms were clean every day but there's no fridge hair dryer and don't change the sheets all week. The worse part of all was the food how any one can say it was good I do not know i.e. the bacon was piled up in a lump just like most of the meats at night, one night there was a pigs head and it was just ripped off and thrown onto plates they could not keep up with the food and looked a mess, the tongs they used was for any thing all mixed and not cleaned, if you liked salad you were all right, cakes was the same every night and over all was not a lot of choice, we never heard of anyone who thought this was good, the entertainment was quite bad although the reps done there best but really need some to be upgraded, IF they sorted out the food and the service with better acts on at night if would change a great deal but I cant see that happening SHAME would not return,

Room Tip: go self catering ,ask for sea view high floor, and go out at night were there is nice bars and pubs...

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel (two females aged between 20-30)

I have read some of the not so good reviews of this hotel and can honestly say that I don't understand where they are coming from.

This was our first time at this location and we thought it was just brilliant. We had an all inclusive stay which proved to be really very good. The hotel itself is clean and we had a twin room where the two single beds were placed together but this didn't matter, we pulled them apart and this is then how they stayed for the week. Good view of the entertainment stage from our balcony too (more on that later!)

Included in the room was a tv, double wardrobe good size bathroom with bath/shower (with shower gel/shampoo), toilet and bidet! Bathroom was very clean and we each had a hand towel and bath towel plus a bath mat which were ALL changed everyday! The beds were made everyday also. The chambermaid was very helpful each time we saw her and if there was anything else we needed, we just asked (they are not mind readers!!)

The staff at the hotel were very helpful and nothing was ever too much. Even when we arrived in the early hours of the morning, they were still very welcoming and friendly. Most of them had a good understanding of English. It was a busy hotel and the staff were literally run off their feet 24 hours a day but they still managed to say hello (or "hola") and provide a smile!

The food at the hotel was also very good. They cater for a whole range of different cultures and there's always something that you can choose to eat. It is a buffet style restaurant and breakfast, lunch and dinner and if you are unsure of what a certain dish is, just look up, there was always a little card above the dish telling you what it is in a number of different languages or failing that...ask!! The snacks by the outdoor pool (there is a small indoor pool too although we didn't use this!) were absolutely fine, burgers/chips/hotdogs/sandwiches and a range of drinks, what more do you need?! The snacks by the beach were similar to those at the buffet but always enough to fill a hole! The soft drinks were available on tap and you can just help yourself (with all inclusive you wear a bracelet which shows the staff that you are AI!) the times of the food are as follows:
Breakfast : 0800-1000
Lunch : 1300-1500
Dinner : 1900-2200
Pool Snacks : 1100-1300 and 1530-1700
Beach Bar : 1100-1700
Drinks were available all day.
When on the beach there was even a man with a wheelbarrow full of different fruits for sale if you fancied a fruity snack!

The sun loungers on the beach (including an umbrella) were €12 for two for the whole day until 1800 but you don't have to use them and can instead lie on the sand. The water is warm and just beautiful. The sun loungers by the pool do not have to be paid for by some are reserved early. The pool opens at 0900 but there was always a queue before this time for the sun loungers. We never got out to the pool before 1000 and NEVER had a problem in getting a sun lounger at the poolside!! It's just a case of having a look around for those without towels!

The entertainment at the hotel consists of a team of about 6/7 very enthusiastic people! They start at the poolside at about 1100 for an hour or two with games/bingo/sports and dancing on offer. There's also a kids club available. They are very keen on getting the audience to participate and do not like to take 'no' for an answer! Be prepared to be asked to get up and learn a particular dance or take part in something like water aerobics or "crazy game!" There is a timetable of the entertainment teams events in reception. The evening entertainment consisted of the same team of people putting on a mini-disco for the little ones at 2030 until 2200 and then a range of different activities for the adults from 2200 to midnight (ish) again, be prepared to be asked to join them on stage although you can sit inside if you do not want this to happen! They also put on a broadway show, a magician and a live band. There are very efficient waiters/waitresses walking around whilst the entertainment is on so drinks are available the whole time. Yes there are only certain drinks that are free with AI but that was never a problem! Our room as I said previously was overlooking the entertainment stage and we never had a problem with it being too noisy, we expected it to continue until about midnight and after this point there were only ever the noises of a few people taking a bit longer to go to bed! What do people expect?! They are on holiday!!

The hotel is not far from the shops and a chemist and there is a little train that for €3.50 will take you around cala d'or for a tour of the area. (This picks up and drops off at the next street, about 5 mins walk from the hotel). We had a late flight back to the UK and when checking out, the reception staff remove the AI bracelet from your wrist but give you a small piece of paper to use for that day so it's not a problem, the food and drink is still free!!

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and cannot fault it in anyway! It was a busy time to go but we knew that before we arrived and did not find it a problem in the slightest. We did not experience pushing and shoving whilst getting food as I have read that others did. There is plenty of choice and always friendly staff who are willing to help in anyway possible. The wifi in reception is quite slow but we still managed to use it without a problem!

I know this review is really long but I wanted to explain to those that haven't been before that this hotel is great for the 3 stars that its been given! If you are expecting 5 star luxury, do not pick a 3 star hotel! Two very happy customers who will be booking up again next year!
