I must say, for the price we paid we were very happy of the quality of the service. Big plus for the hotel for being so clean. Rooms rather basic but again- we have paid unbelievable cheap hols so we did not dare to expect any Hilton quality.. To us was enough- bedding changed every day, if we wanted, towels also, room cleaned every day. Air con worked, fan worked. No any probs about that at all. Cleaning staff very pleasant, the same in the restaurant and bar, smiling and pleasant people, always happy to help. Thats truth the hotel is very much to German liking, food, entertainment etc, but we were ok with that, anyway we were going out every night, never stayed in the hotel as at that time there were many Germans 60-70 years old ( we are 30 ;) ) Food very continental, plenty of salads so may be a pain for some British :) In general- they were good at vegetarian food, but not best at meat. I dont say it was bad, I say it was not best. We personally enjoyed the food, plentyfull and various evening meals, breakfast bit repetitive but - there was English full breakfast available if you like. One minor thing we did not like- we found some drinks very bad like very artificial orange and apple " juice" in the morning, they used those for alcoholic drinks also, and served in plastic cups at the pool so that was very bad and we never bought a drink there again. That was the only things i did not like and that was all. When we checked in, we realized we got a room with a big transparent window in the bathroom. I felt very uncomfortable about that and we asked for a change. We got a new room in a half an hour and apologies from the staff that we had to wait. I recommend that hotel if you look for a quiet holiday, if you are in middle age, if you dont fancy loud entertainment. Cala Dor is all right , but too small beaches to us. Hotel`s location was perfect though, a little walk to 3 pretty but little beaches. Wondering how people can manage there in the full season. ( we were in October) Once we chosed the pool instead the beach and we found it clean and very all right. We had a lovely holiday, we enjoyed our stay. A great value for money!

Room Tip: we were in apartments and they were all right, just make sure you havent got a room with a window i...

Well, unlike most people we are a realistic..if you pay for a 3 star expect a 3 star..so don't moan if you expect more !
However, we found it to be more than 3 star. We stayed in the Sun Beach resort apartments that are part of the complex and are a short stroll away but used the Hotel Tamarix every day and found there to be no problems whatsoever. Our apartment was clean and so large we were glad we chose them. We stayed on June 9th for 10 days and found the hotel to be in a perfect location. Having 2 toddlers the location and facilities were perfect. The toddler pool was at the right depth and the larger pool sloped gently from one end to the other without any danger of them slipping out of their depth. Having spent 10 days fully utilising the pool and swallowing several mouthfulls whilst playing with the kids and other guests ( yes ..German, Russian, Scots etc..) in games of water polo and volley ball I did not find the water tasting of anything funny at all.Maybe one of the previous reviewers swallowed someone else's suntan lotion !
The pool area was clean and tidy at all times and there were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. The bar area was great too with a lovely lady called Angu who was so friendly with us and our children that we wanted to take her home with us..We loved her running from the bar to join in with the dance on the bridge with the reps which adults alike joined in with. She was so accommodating to the kids and was so friendly after her shift had finished. In regards to a reviewer complaining about the wasps round the bar..yes there are wasps but like any other open air bar in the middle of summer, sweetness attracts. Its something you have to put up with and once you moved away from the bar there was no trouble. They simply hovered round the drinks dispensers and were more of a threat to the bar staff than you!
In a previous review some one complained about the awful entertainment team singing in German. If that reviewer had got to know the entertainment team, which consisted of 3 lovely students called, Niels, Esther and Rowan they would have discovered that they were Dutch !!
And might I add that these 3 students started at 9am in the morning and carried on until midnight providing entertainment for children in the "kids club" whilst providing aquarobics, Archery, Shooting, Boules, Volleyball, shuffleboard,Water polo,Darts, pool games and evening entertainment . Ok, the evening entertainment might not be everyones cup of tea but trying to entertain a mix of Nationalities and all ages from 6months to 80 in English can't be easy for anyone. We found it to be good to wind down and loved joining in with the other guests at the games they put on.If you need more lively entertainment don't stay here, stay in Cala D'or. This hotel is ideal for relaxing and the area is certainly quiet in the evening but Cala D'or is a 10 min walk away and you can enjoy the bars there and the shopping.
If anyone has a complaint about a hotel being geared up for " the Germans" please get off your horse..This is 2012 where things are international..stay in Blackpool if you want something traditionally British.
I agree with another reviewer about Juan..no issue with this man at all..he was kind and helpful to us whenever we asked at reception as was Maria, the other receptionist. The cleaners were pleasant and reliable too.
A lot of people say they would go back...well we were so pleased with our 3 star Bargain that June 10th 2013 sees us back there again :)

Room Tip: If you have toddlers and are looking at an apartment the Sun Beach resort apartments linked to this...

as usual looked at the trip/ad reviews before booking and decided to go for it we had 3 hotels lined up and this one got the vote, after 10 days there i dont know how there were so many good reviews.firstly we were placed in an apartment block opposite hotel the room was smaller then your average hotel room and the smell of drains was in bathroom.i have to say after 2 or 3 days we were used to the smaller size.the noise from other rooms in the nearby blocks was at times awful i am happy for people to have a few drinks get drunk if they want they are on holiday and i like a pint or more myself but unlucky for us there was a bunch of teenagers in block opposite who went rite over the top the screaming and shouting went on till the early hours for the first 2 nights and then after it calmed somewhat.ok the food in hotel lol well the germans seemed to like it but it was slanted toward there taste.personally i thought it was really bad i struggled to find a decent meal on 9 of my 10 nights and went into the town for a meal on 3nights.my friend who was on hol with me had same problem.lastly the day before leaving we asked reception if we could have early breakfast as we left at 8 and breakfast was at 8-30 we were told we will not open restaurent before 8-30 sorry, then my friend reminded them it was paid for, the answer was we will open bar and you can have a coffee and a croisant.

Room Tip: go to another hotel

We stayed at the apartments belonging to the Tamarix Hotel. First and most important - you have to check into the Tamarix when you arrive - we weren't told this when we booked but luckily I had read it on a review. Once you check in (regardless of the time) they will drive you the few minutes to the apartments and see you in.

The hotel staff that we encountered were all very friendly a helpful. When we reported that we had no hot water, the receptionist walked back to our apartment with us and checked the fuse box and sorted it out straight away.

The apartment itself was 2 bedroom and had plenty of room for the 4 of us (2 adults 2 teenages). Unfortunately they are in desperate need of updating and they definitely need to invest in better mattresses for all of the beds as it was like sleeping on concrete! The shower in the bathroom trickled water and there is a strange window above the bath that appears to be a 'gap' between apartments as you look onto breeze blocks and if you look up you can see floorboards for the apartments upstairs! The kitchen is very old and the fridge and units were a bit rusty.
The sofa which turns into a bed was uncomfortable and although had been cleaned was old and stained. Also, there is no AirCon.

All that said, the apartments were very clean as were the towels and bed linen. We had a lady clean every day and offer new towels if we wanted them and the beds were changed once in the week.

There is a small pool that is shared by the apartments and although we used it, it did look like it needed a good clean by the end of the week.

We were on the ground floor and did find it to be very noisy at night with people coming and going. There are a lot of other apartments all around lived in by the locals and we could hear lots of conversations late into the night - the Majorcans are lovely but do speak loudly and the sound carries! Holidaymakers using the pool and playig football at 3am was probably the worst night but this only happened once while we were there. There was a very friendly atmosphere around the pool in the day and it never got too busy. We also used the Tamarix pool a few times which was lovely - plenty of sunbeds. The bar was a bit expensive but as we only used it a few times it didn't really affect us.

There are 2 beaches nearby, we used Cala Ferrera which had beds and umbrella to hire for €12 a day. It did get very busy but we always got beds. The beach cafe was lovely and staff very friendly - prices were very reasonable.

Cala d'Or was approx 10-15 mins walk away. Well worth the walk, lots of restaurants and bars, plenty of shops to wander round.

I would thoroughly recommed the Carabel sports bar on the main road from the apartments to Cala d'or, just before you get to the Azul Playa apartments. Happy hour between 10pm and midnight and the manager singing karoke was worth going every night! He was hilarious and had everyone laughing.

I have been to Cala d'Or 7 times now and although I wouldn't return to the Tamarix apartments (unless they were updated) I will definitely return to Cala d'Or.

We took three of our grandchildren on holiday and chose Sun Beach Apartments (part of the Tamarix) based on other reviews especially because it was supposed to be close to the beach so was very disappointed to find it was a good 10 minutes away down a very steep hill. We walked down once and were exhausted after walking back up with all the usual beach stuff so used the main hotel pool which was an excellent pool for the kids
On arrival our apartment wasn't available due to a booking error so we had to spend the first night in a temporary (very poor apartment). Once in the correct apartment all was well, very clean and spacious.
Only tried the food at the poolside bar once, terrible (worse then McDs) and over priced so we ate in town every night (go to the Mexican Steak Bar, fantastic food as is the tapas restaurant around the corner from the hotel).
On leaving there was no confirmation of when the bus would pick us up and the hotel couldn't give a monkeys (not their problem was the attitude) the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders and said "nothing I can do"
Cala D'Or lovely resort but I would try somewhere else if I went again

Arrived 2 wks ago to be told they had overbooked and had put us into a nearby apartment until our "hotel room" was ready. When we eventually got transferred, we were put into a small independent block opposite the hotel. We had traffic noise and the awful entertainment team screeching down microphones (in German) until midnight. There were 3 occassions we were woken at 4am by people dragging their wheeled suitcases outside and talking below our balcony whilst waiting for their coaches. This hotel is geared up mainly for the German market and one female receptionist didn't speak any English, which was extremely frustrating as we were trying to report that the telephone was out of order (also had no mobile phone signal). We stayed for 10 days and only had our sheets changed the night before we left. The "cleaner" came in daily and just emptied our bin! When we arrived there were bits of watermelon flesh on the bathroom floor which were still there when we checked out yesterday morning. The mattresses and pillows are rock hard and very uncomfortable. Hotel food was bland and had limited choice, and the milk is sterilised. Although we had paid full board, we chose to trek into the main centre to eat from the variety of restaurants instead. Couldn't get near the pool, so instead we used the one at the apartments which was spotless, and very quiet (never had more than 5 people in it). Not much to do in the resort, so hired a car for 4 days to relieve the boredom and to explore other resorts. We usually go to the Greek Islands and thought we'd give Majorca a try for a change......can't wait for next years holiday, guaranteed bliss......back in the Greek Isles.
