I stayed at Inturotel Esmeralda Garden, Cala D'or, with my two grandsons in August and was very happy with my stay there. Cala d'or is a very family orientated resort. The Staff at Esmeralda were very helpful and pleasant. Apartment spacious with large balacony and cleaned five times in the week we were there. Meals served at Esmeralda Park just a short stroll away and food excellent with plenty of choice and, again, staff very helpful. Pool beautiful with plenty of sun beds. Easy access to beaches. All in all could not fault the place we had a wonderful holiday and would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms at back of main building overlooking garden quieter than those at front overlooking pool.

Visited with my family this week and was pleasantly surprised by the location, facilities, loads for kids and use of the other hotels in the group and beautiful beaches (v packed however), entertainment etc.
Not so good was the lack of free wifi, another expense at 15e just for one device (my phone) in the apartment. It was free in reception area. Kitchen facilities in the apartment just about got us by and we cooked in half the week. Food locally, although dubious as to how fresh, was ok with fish, pasta about 12 to 15 euros and tapas about 6 to 8per dish.

The noise in the apartment was so annoying - in the corridor, all the time!! Also outside from the bin collectors emptying bottles at 6am every day, the cleaners noisily moving furniture, and the echo of whoever is singing in the karaoke bar over the road, bouncing back into the room at midnight. Even with a room at the back. Also a fail was the overpriced trip to the Caves of Drach (book it online and take a cab/bus - half the price).
Having said that, we felt really safe, the pools and beach were lovely, drinks and food poolside were good, children's "entertainment" in the evening was suitable for 3 to 5 year olds (mini disco) and the evening entertainment, despite being for adults, were full of kids and not appropriate in places...
All in all a good holiday with lots for us, easy and great location but lots can be done to improve!!

A good apartment (let down as you will read) within touching distance to supermarkets and numerous, vibrant bars and restaurants.

The resort itself is absolutely fantastic and one I wouldn't hesitate in returning to. There are loads of bars and restaurants to choose from, all of which were a little surprise to me on the pocket in a good way. It was a little annoying every time you pass a restaurant to go through the sales patter but not enough to put you off.

The Apartments themselves are of a great standard and maintained by the cleaners immaculately. Cooking facilities leave a lot to be desired but this is a personal opinion as I imagine most will eat out every night. The air conditioning was an absolute life saver and pretty standard these days but important, there is access (at a cost) to a safe within your room.

Wi-Fi was a big disappointment....we're in 2017 and as such this should also in my opinion be standard in your room. You do have access to free wi-fi but this is restricted to the reception area only. For a premium (I think it was 15 euros for 7 days) you could pay for a code to access in your room but this was restricted to one device! Not ideal with a family and 5 Devices!

Finally the pool area......Getting a sun bed was never an issue however one side is shaded after about 2pm. Sun beds themselves were a little uncomfortable for my 'larger' frame but not a show stopper. There are Pool and Table Tennis tables and a handy poolside bar and seating area for you to use.

I have to question the maintenance of the pool. I never once saw it tested...that's not to say it ever was but in my 4th from last day I picked up an ear infection in both ears. I wasn't the only one as we spoke to 5/6 guests who all had the same problem.

This very nearly resulted in me not being able to fly home! And a pretty poor last 3 days stuck in my room having to avoid sun and drink and generally being in pain.

I appreciate this review may have been a little different had I not had the infection experience but my experience was fundamentally ruined by the pool!! It may be different for others I appreciate.

Overall......it was OK at best!

The Esmerelda Garden is part of a large group of Inturotel hotels in the area which you are free to use. The Esmerelda Park and Cala Azul Park are the main sites, with the Cala Azul Garden opposite (the garden hotels are smaller, the park hotels bigger).
The Esmerelda Garden is situated about a 5-7 minute walk from the 3 other hotels.
The pool area was very busy, with the normal towel brigade out at 8am. Although at the other hotels there was a system where the lifeguard removed towels that were unattended for >45 mins, this did not appear to happen at the Esmerelda Garden. We tended to use the pool at the Cala Azul garden as friends of ours were staying there, the pool here is much bigger and nicer with more sunbeds.
There are many restaurants and bars in the local area but only a couple were decent-we preferred the restaurants in Cala d'or which was a short 10-15 minute walk away.
There are lots of shops, supermarkets, play parks, beaches and entertainment nearby (including the karaoke bar mentioned in other posts). We didn't mind the noise and actually visited it a few times to see the tribute acts which were good.
The room itself was large and cleaned 5 days a week. The grounds are immaculate and well maintained. Only real downside is the small pool, but with the option to visit other pools this wasn't too much of an issue. We also visited the many local beaches, which are mainly small coves but are lovely and a short walk away, The Cala Ferrera beach was our favourite but Cala Gran beach was also a short walk and slightly larger.
All in all a very enjoyable holiday, we will likely return next year, if not to the Esmerelda garden then definitely to the Cala Azul Garden.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms have nice outlook but will hear karaoke

Esmeralda garden is one of several Inturotel hotels in the area and is beginning to look a little neglected. There is a pool table, table tennis table, pool bar open 10 to 6 and a fairly small pool. If you want access to a holiday rep, sport activities for the kids, restaurants or night entertainment you will need to walk the 5 minutes to Esmeralda park or further to Cala Azul. Others have mentioned the loud karaoke bar opposite - we found this OK when the professional singers were performing, less so when well refreshed Brits were belting out the tunes. Sun beds were usually available, the lobby is invariably full of people utilising the free wifi there, rooms were OK but will need refurbishing soon. The adjacent street has some fairly average bars and restaurants but a 10 minute walk to your right past Walshies will take you to the town centre which has a huge choice. They are mostly touristy but we found Bodega, Diferent and Celler cas brau the best. The marina is a 15 minute walk and worth it for the amazing yachts but also lots of good restaurants. The beaches and coves are all very attractive but probably better seen outside peak season as they are all very small and absolutely rammed in July. As for trips, the Starfish boat trip went down well with the kids, especially sliding in to the sea but Mondrago had little to commend it other than two bigger beaches. Palma is worth a visit, the cathedral is stunning but the Thomas Cook trip was a bit chaotic - the Palma express bus is probably a better bet. Aqualand also went down well.
