There's no need to repeat what all the other reviewers have said about this great hotel. It was really excellent in every way and the staff had gone to a lot of trouble to make our stay here extra special. It's the very best hotel we've stayed at in many trips to Spain. If you go B&B be sure to try out the lovely restaurants at the nearby harbour, including a new fish and tapas restaurant called Vora Mara, which we loved. We will return to this hotel again. The resort of Cala Bona is much nicer than neighbouring Cala Millor as well.

Room Tip: Get one on the back with a balcony overlooking the sea. In April you can leave the window open at ni...

Brilliant hotel, good location, excellent staff particularly Miguel in the dining room. Brilliant food. Would definitely return again, it's worth paying for a sea view room. We loved the area of cala bona so relaxing.

Very nice hotel, Staff Excellent. central location. All you can eat Evening Buffet, wide selection of food even fussy eaters will find something here.
Breakfast again, Huge choice ,fresh fruits lovely omelettes, eggs however you wanted them cooked to order.

The only draw back for us was the adjoining room. You could hear everything and the first time i heard the noise i had been asleep and thought someone had opened our door and came into the room. Our room no was 218 it looked out onto the pedestrianised street, and we had the sun on the balcony from 15.30 and protection from the sea breeze which was welcome in early April.

We could not fault this hotel. Rooms were spotless, the food was excellent, the staff were very courteous. The area was very friendly, the portions of the food were excellent. In the hotel after dinner we had coffee and brandy the tots were extremely generous

Room Tip: The Junior Suite was excellent.

Having studied TripAdvisor for a long period, I then booked this hotel for 1 week in April 2014 on a Half Board basis, it was here all my concerns ended.
Gran Sol is a lovely quiet medium sized hotel located on the beach front, just 5 minutes from the harbour.
Nightly entertainment was provided at its sister hotel The Levante which was only a short 2 minute stroll away.
Upon arrival, we were greeted, checked-in and then served with a drink at reception all of which was swift and faultless.
Our twin room (310) was very clean which had the requested sea view and balcony.
Complimentary slippers, dressing gowns, toiletries, bottle of water, kettle, tea/coffee and a bowl of fresh fruit were all suitably presented.
Breakfast was the real dining treat, plenty of selection plus the added bonus of freshly cooked omelettes, bacon (streaky and back), black pudding and eggs poached/fried/scrambled.
Evening tea had a wide and varied selection of foods, all of which was nicely presented and continually reviewed by the very efficient staff. There was the option to have 3 food selections freshly cooked as you waited, generally 2 meat and one fish and there was also a carvery meat item which would be sliced for you.
The service provided at both breakfast and evening tea could not be faulted, it was fast, efficient with the atmosphere most welcoming.
The hotel was 95% full on our visit, with adequate sun loungers (adjacent to the pool), parasols and seating (in the bar area). Again the service provided was slick and efficient by the bar staff.
One of my observations was the duty manageress, who was helping with any tasks that were required to be conducted while greeting and engaging in conversation with the guests.
The ENTIRE STAFF at this hotel should be commended for their pleasant and professional attitude shown towards their guests, nothing was too much to ask for and they always greeted you with the utmost respect.
I am usually a very critical person, but the Gran Sol managed to tick all the boxes.
It was a pleasure to stay here and we will be back.

Room Tip: A sea view with a balcony is a must, so you can experience the sun rise/set while having a quiet dri...

This was a last minute booking for us as we just wanted to 'get away' from the stresses of everyday life. It was just the job. Lovely hotel, exceptional staff. A bowl of fresh fruit on arrival. The food is excellent, especially the homemade marmalade! The kettle, tea and coffee in the rooms made such a difference to us as we usually have to take our own. The bath robes and slippers are a fantastic addition. Loved the indoor pool and spent most afternoons on the roof terrace. Hotel is ideal for walking to shops, harbour or further afield, and all very flat.
One minor gripe....hotels..I really do not want to steal your clothes hangers. Please, please stop using those dreadful fixed things. These were too high up in the wardrobe and very difficult for me to use.
Oh yes...no drawers in the room?

Room Tip: Ask to be put in a room at the back of the hotel rather than the side as the balconies are bigger.

We booked a fairly cheap package with Thomson through LastMinute at the start of the summer season - flight, transfers and B&B. We chose the Gran Sol because it was at the upper end of the Thomson offerings, but we weren't expecting much more than a realistic three-star service (fine for a week's break. Reviews on Trip Advisor seemed generally much higher than we'd assume, which confirmed our choice.

The Gran Sol very happily exceeded expectations. We'd rate it at a comfortable four-star level. The rooms, staff and food were all excellent, and this ageing hotel (it's been around for 40+ years) has been very well updated and maintained.

Cala Bona is a more British small northern part of the generally German Cala Millor resort. Parts of Cala Millor suffer from the tackiness often associated with Med resorts, but the standards are generally higher. I can't speak for the atmosphere in high summer, but then wild horses wouldn't drag me to the Med at that time anyway!

Room Tip: We had a a sea view. rooms on the other side face a pedestrian street, which I think would be well...
