Arrived back yesterday from this wonderful, clean and quite modern hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to our needs. The pool is on the smaller side but very pretty right on the beach edge and there was plenty of sun loungers for everyone. An indoor rooftop pool and Jacuzzi with amazing views along the beach was lovely. We stayed bed and breakfast and the found breakfast provided was delicious and had something for everyone. We only ate at the hotel one night and found the food good but was not really authentic spanish cusine on offer although there was fish and meats cooked to order and a variety of vegetables which suited us well. The hotel is situated in a convenient location for a leisurely stroll along the beach front to cala millor with restaurants along the way. This resort lacks evening bars if you were looking for a lively night time holiday but is perfect for the relaxed sunny holiday we were looking for. I would have no problem staying her again.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms looked great with balconies overlooking the entire beach.

We have just returned from a lovely week at this hotel. The hotel is nicely positioned on the beach at Cala Bona and is it literally just a few steps from the drinks patio to the water’s edge. If you choose a room with a sea view there is a truly magnificent aspect out across the bay and constant changing scenery as water craft of various sorts cross your horizon. The rooms themselves are nicely decorated and equipped with comfortable large beds and a fully appointed bathroom. A TV is provided but the picture was unwatchable on the English stations. I did report this at reception but their engineer’s best efforts achieved no improvement – however, one does not go on holiday to watch Eastenders, does one?

Upon arrival guests are presented with a refreshing drink (non-alcoholic) and the check in process is speedy and efficient. The staff throughout the hotel were equally efficient and polite throughout our stay.

The dining room is on the first floor and offers spectacular views across the bay whilst enjoying dinner. Dinner itself is served from 7 pm onward and seating is not pre-allocated – so get there early if you want to enjoy that view. The décor of the restaurant is delightfully understated and elegant. Table linens, cutlery and crockery were all in excellent order. The food was, to us, a trifle disappointing. We found the menu rather lacking in variety although it was presented well.

On the fourth floor there are sun decks, the spa pool and the fitness room. There is also a sauna. Again the most has been made of the spectacular bay views from all of these facilities and from the pool you can appreciate the full splendour of the vista. The same view can be admired from the fitness room but bearing in mind that the massive windows allow the Mediterranean sun to stream in and the room is not air conditioned anyone who lasts more than 20 mins on the exercise equipment should be given a medal. I was flagging and dripping in sweat after 10 mins. Also the equipment is in surprisingly poor condition bearing in mind the quality of the rest of the hotel. The bike’s saddle is stuck in place. The pulley strings were broken on the weights machine. The running machine had no proper safety cut out and all the equipment shows traces of rust – doubtless due to being next to a swimming pool. This is unacceptable in my view but as I am not a fanatic about exercise I was not minded to make a fuss about it. The running machine was actually removed half way through our stay and not replaced.

The beach just outside the hotel is rather disappointing and can best be described as post-apocalyptic. It reminded me rather of the beach assault chapter in Call of Duty MW3 but without the machine guns. It does however have the strewn concrete slab and blocks, some impaled with iron rods, grey sand, thermo-nuclear rocks and great heaps of dried seaweed – apparently the latter is cleared up in April for fertiliser. There is a much nicer beach along the bay at Cala Millor.

Leaving the hotel by the front though presents the guest with a choice of left to Cala Millor or right to the harbour. Much has been written here about Cala Bona’s lack of Spanish charm. However it does have a charm of a kind and the buildings around the harbour, to my eye, have a Central American feel about them. With a little imagination one can fancy oneself in Panama (although probably without the white linen suit). The walk to Cala Millor takes one past a plethora of pleasant enough cafes and restaurants. There appears to be a lap dancing club called Lollipops if one ventures far enough. The promenade in either direction can be converted to a bicycle ride for a few Euros at a shop opposite the hotel where all manner of person powered vehicles are available – and great fun it was too when we hired a pedalled buggy reminiscent of those seen in the 1960s series – the Prisoner.

The hotel neighbours two other hotels belonging to the same company. The Levante and the Levante Park. All of the facilities of those hotels are available to Gran Sol guests. In the evening this includes the Butlinesque cabaret which, provided the correct mind-set is adopted can be great fun. The show starts at 9 pm and finishes at 10 plus encores (and there are not usually many of those!).

All in all the experience was a charming one and we would be very happy to return.

Room Tip: It is worth paying for a sea view.

Just arrived back Friday 29th could not wait to write a review about this fantastic hotel.
we were greeted with warmth and generousity from the out set.
Ok this is a small hotel but boy do they give good service, its as though you are the only ones their, the staff are so freindly there is nothing to fault.
Food is cooked to order, you tell me where you get that and its in front of you while you wait, this is as sister hotel which is next door to the Levante which is a gold rated, dont bother its big in your face and no personality.
Although we were half board we did go out and i have to give a big mention to the Lemongrass Thai resturante by the harbour to your right of the hotel fantastic meal with a free half bottle of wine with each dinner, the owner is English but the cook Thai who we asked to see to thank for a very fab meal which he cooked to how you liked hot, med,or as it comes.
There are plenty of shops, bars, resturants if you want it but not in your face and bothering you if you go in so be it.
This trip was with me my hubbie and my sister on her own, who by the way said she would feel safe going here on her own!
Honestly if you want great food, comfort, service, quite break then this is the place to go.

Room Tip: we were in 216 which looked out to the shops, my sister was 201 which looked out to the levante with...

Just spent a week at Gran Sol. The Hotel had only just opened for the season when we arrived, so very quiet - but there was entertainment next door at the Lavente (part of the same hotel group) . Cala Bona is a quiet resort at this time of year - only about 1 quarter of the bars and shops seemed to be open but it is clean and quiet which is what we were looking for. The Gym and indoor pool at the hotel were a bit of a disappointment - tired old equipment and not really a swimming pool so we didn't get round to using them. Hired a lovely Fiat 500 for a couple of days for £81 (which was a good deal and really easy to arrange through the hotel) and explored the island - took a coach to up to the Sunday market in Pollenca which was a great day out - Love the town and the atmosphere. All in all a great trip and a great Hotel - with friendly helpful staff -

Did a last minute booking to find some sun and pampering and found a gem here ! The Gran Sol was excellent in every respect. We booked a Junior Suite from 15 - 22 March. On arrival we were very impressed with the speed and efficiency of check in and delighted to have one of the best rooms in the hotel. The room had a huge 6 metre long glass balcony on the corner, with fabulous views over the sea. Furnished with table, chairs and very comfortable sunbeds it was a perfect place to watch the sunrise and set and with good weather for March we made a lot of use of the balcony throughout the day though it was in shade later in the afternoons. It was very quiet as the other side of the hotel is a pedestrian walkway.
The room itself was lovely, quite big with nice decor, split into two areas with a a large sofa, flat screen TV ( all main English channels) mini bar etc. The bedroom itself was good with another TV and both areas had patio doors onto the balcony.
Only one reservation - the bathroom arrangement was odd. An archway from the bedroom contained a spacious "vanity" area which led through green opaque glass doors to the bath / shower loo area which was dark. There was no closure on the swing saloon type door and thus no privacy. A shame really as it could be a large bathroom if they combined both with a proper door from the bedroom - on lying in bed you were looking at the pipe work under the basin.

But what made the holiday for us was the excellent service from exceptional staff and the superb food. As it was the very start of the season there were only about 20 people at first then about 30 before we left ( hotel holds 116 people). So we had the place to ourselves a lot, sometimes only 6 in the dining room. However the huge choice of food was still available ! Breakfasts were amazing with a massive choice plus excellent fresh hot food and bacon or eggs cooked on request. There was a good lunchtime menu. Evening meals were very special with again a massive choice of starters, lovely soups and a delicious choice of main courses including cooked to order steaks, turkey etc and a daily carvery. The deserts were also great. Special mention should go to the three ladies who run the dining room - they are a credit to the hotel. The bar staff too.

Everywhere was immaculately clean - again down to conscientious staff.

Cala Bona is a nice resort and there is a lovely walk either to the pretty harbour and beyond or to Cala Millor. Plenty of shops, mini markets and bars and restaurants though some were not yet open for the season. Not sure I would want to be there in high season though - so many hotels it must get crowded. Did a trip on a glass bottom boat around the bays which was a nice few hours.

Next door to the Gran Sol is its sister hotel the Levante which is much cheaper. There was entertainment here every day and evening but not to our taste, a cross between the lounge in an old people's home and a 80s working mens' club but it was busy and smart if that is what you like. The Gran Sol was very quiet at all times which we prefer.

Used the indoor pool and sauna a couple of times, lovely views from the decking area up on the 4th floor.
Will definitely return sometime but out of season again. Highly recommend this gem of a hotel.

Room Tip: Junior suite worth the extra but all the sea view rooms seemed good. Half board a must !

Good service lovely sea view room and we enjoyed the food. we did not venture out the hotel really as we enjoyed the peace and service in the hotel. Very relaxing holiday.
