I must confess to being a little confused by the review from Doodah as we were there at the same time as them and though there is a little factual information within their review trying to link

this to "the regulars" is wholely inaccurate and at the very least unfair.

Yes the Bonamar does have a large number of regular returning guests, of which me and my partner are two, but this is because we have all found an excellent and friendly hotel where we can relax,

unwind and generally enjoy our holiday. I wont go into all of the plus points (and odd negative) for the Bonamar which are covered many times in the reviews but will say that the stats speak for

themselves with this small 112 room hotel currently sitting 3rd in the ratings on Tripadvisor for the whole of Cala Bona and up against some far larger and grander establishments.

The term "regulars" does imply that it is one large group of people who meet up together each year and completely take over the hotel. The reality is that it is in fact a diverse cross section of

people and couples who just happen to like coming to the Bonamar each year for their holiday. Some enjoy the games and the social aspect whilst others (me and the missus) just enjoy relaxing by the

pool and watching the fun. There is certainly no clique mentality and both myself and my partner comment on just how open and friendly everybody is to everyone whether it is your first visit or (in

the words of Cornelius) your last!

It does appear that the sunbed situation did get a little silly this year but my understanding from the other half, who went down in a morning, was that there were as many unfamiliar faces waiting

at the doors as there were "regulars". Very much the petrol shortage mentallity in that once the word got round that their might be a shortage of sunbeds then the more people started queuing each

day. I will however say that most people who put towells down onto the beds did spend the whole day there (no reseving and then going off for the day) and the hotel did there bit by putting some

additional beds out in the garden for those that couldn't get around the pool.

We were also generally one of the first back up from dinner each evening and most of the bar and stage area was empty so the comments regarding people rushing their food to ensure they had prime

position for the evenings entertainment are a little odd? We would generally relax for 30 minutes with an after dinner drink before going out for a walk into the harbour at Cala Bona which is

lovely and a great way to walk off the excess.

I have no idea who Doodah is but what I can say is their opnions are certainly not representative of the hotel guests we have ever met be they first time visitors or "regulars" and they are

certainly not a true reflection of the situation at the Bonamar.

The reality of the true situation is that this hotel is now so popular if you do not book nearly a year in advance you cannot be guaranteed the dates that you want!

Spent 2 weeks here along with approx 50% of the returning guests and some of our very close dear friends, to mention just a few, Lewis, Cornelious, Vettel, Julian my husband of course, Tsunami, Pauline, Lynn and Sue, this is just to mention a few of our very close friends but of course most of the hotel were returning guests we knew. Please do not be put off by the negative reviews by a previous person just below, if you are on holiday with a light heart and willing to enjoy your stay you will. If however, you are miserable and moaning about everything everybody does then you wont, simple as, there have been plenty of first timers here at the hotel who simply clap along with the good humour and enjoy themselves. The sunbed situation is the same everywhere and yes there were a few days where certain individuals decided to queue rightly so at the back and then wrongly push to the front and then run, not a good idea by some individuals and very silly. If there are a group of friends who wish to sit together then it is their right to get up whenever they wish, to lay where they want. If you dont, then stay in bed and get what is left, i would rather the hotel stop Bonamar guests saving beds for their friends who come in from other hotels, this is wrong.

I have put for the title "Please do not book" this is because we love it here and wish to book in again for our 4th visit and if you dont want to enjoy yourself or you wish to have somewhere on your own where no one sits by the pool and takes the beds, book a villa!!

The food has improved from last year and i cant say we struggled, even if i didnt like the meats on occasion i had salad and pasta, you wont starve that is a fact. Natalie is great, she has booked the acts this year and we stayed in for a few and we enjoyed ourselves, but then again when you have your friends around you you can enjoy any environment.

Anyone who doesnt like the people who stay here or the hotel then that maybe has something to do with how the individual is and not the 99% of guests who love it here and keep returning as i hope my husband and i will with our friends.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the bonamar hotel,we were two couples and this was our first visit to this hotel which was booked partly because of the positive reviews on trip advisor and because it was adult only, we were allocated 2 rooms top floor with partial sea views on the road side of the hotel, some comments on trip advisor have advised people to try for rooms with seaviews or garden facing, we found our rooms perfectly fine for our needs as to us a room is only for sleeping in and anyone who likes to squeeze the last rays out of the sun then these rooms get the sun right into the evening,we were never kept awake by road noise as it is only a side street, yes the rooms are not the largest I have ever stayed and the balconys are compact but they were kept spotlessly clean by the hardworking domestics. All the staff at this hotel were very friendly and always looked happy going about their work, the hotel is spotless throughout. We found the food good with plenty choice both for breakfast and evening meal.We did not stay around the hotel in the evening as we prefer to go to bars in the resort but there was always entertainment laid on at the hotel and guests we spoke to seemed to enjoy the acts,we did stay for the comedian think his name was George and we found him hilarious. We cannot comment on the sunbed debate as we preferred to go out and about till about 3pm then head for the pool and never had a problem and we were requiring 4 beds, but some people did say they found it hard to get one first thing in a morning but this happens in many hotels and is not unique to the bonamar! There are many guests who return to this hotel year after year and comments made by some reviewers seem a little unkind as we never felt it was a them and us environment, and we found the guests staying the same time as us to be a very friendly bunch. I must also give Natalie a mention as although we did not stay around all day and night at the hotel that girl works her socks off to ensure guests are having a good time and she is the only entertainment person at the hotel so to be that bubbly 24/7 gets a nod from us,we did enjoy her afternoon fun quiz. This was our first time at this hotel and cala bona and we would not hesitate to recommend either the hotel or resort to our friends.

just come back from a 7nt stay at the Bonamar Hotel we had a lovely time every thing was spot on. the only drawback was there was never any sunbeds around the pool, but we didn't let it spoil our holiday, as we were not that bothered about laying by the pool all day, was plenty of lovely walks into Cala Bona we enjoyed walking to the harbour after our evening meal, as we were certainly well fed.

Room Tip: we were most satisfied with our room which was on the 1st floor. it was by the lift but we never hea...

this hotel is ideally situated between cala millor and cala bona ideal for walking in either direction as its all on the flat.its a very friendly hotel and spotlessly clean.the staff are very friendly and cheerful from the cleaners to the management.the manager is often seen checking the food in the restaurant .plenty of choice at breakfast ,evening meals are a bit hit and miss but there is always something to be found.rooms are small but comfortable.there are plenty of bars and restaurants around near the hotel..stanleys tea bar just down the road from the hotel is lovely also the little spar shop run by Eileen and pedro very popular for lunchtime rolls made to order. the hotel entertainment is organised by Natalie who does an outstanding job and is an asset to the hotel very friendly and cheerful always checking that the guests are alright nothing too much trouble for her.as mentioned in previous comments the sunbed situation was bad this year, a mad scramble at 7-30 to get a sunbed.this was our fourth year there and not seen it that bad before.but the managment did provide extra beds the garden area to help the situation .we have made many friends here over the last few years and look forward to seeing them all again next year .

This is a fairly decent hotel ruined by some, not all, of the regular returning guests. They think they own the place and try to take over! We have recently returned fom a 10 night stay and will most definitely not be returning. The 'regulars' think they have more right than other guests getting upset if THEIR sun beds in a certain position by the pool have been taken by non 'regulars' one actually said that in his opinion there should be a pecking order and the 'regulars' should have first pick and the 'others' should have what's left! There are not enough sun beds for all the guests and they are crammed in around the pool. There is a notice saying the pool area does not open until 8am but in reality it's open before 7.30 and all beds are gone by 8. We were told that people started waiting by the doors from 6.30 and when they were opened it was like a rush for the sales. Not entirely believing this we decided to find out for ourselves so went down the follow morning. The queue started at the pools doors and went right back to the reception doors, as soon as the pool doors were opened there was one almighty rush of people. How sad is this?
These 'regulars' we're always the first down for dinner to be sure they got the best seats for the evening entertainment,
The rooms are really small and the balconies are a joke. Ours measured approximately 7' wide with a depth of 4' tapering down to 18". The rooms have only two electric sockets; one in the bathroom and one in the main room, if you've hired a fridge this has to be unplugged if you wish to watch the TV or charge an appliance. For a charge of €10 per night you can upgrade to a sea view room; these rooms are much bigger with a good size balcony.
The hotel is extremely clean and the staff helpful and obliging. Natalie, the entertainment organiser works very hard to keep people entertained.
The food is hit and miss but we always managed to find something. The seafood night was particularly good.
The hotel is situated in a fantastic place, you are able to easily walk into the centre of Cala Bona or the other way into Cala Millor. There are plenty of restaurants and bars with decent entertainment if you don't want to stay in the hotel.
There's a SPA shop about 100yds from the hotel run by Eileen and Pedro, such a lovely couple, they make up fresh filled rolls of your choice for only €1.70, excellent value.
Perhaps not all returning guests behave the same as the ones we experienced, theses particular people return the same time every year and have already booked for next year, so the middle two weeks of July should be avoided.
We appreciate that what suits one doe not always suit another but this is a true reflection of our time there and after talking to a lot of first time visitors it was clear they felt the same way as us.
A lot of these reviews are done by returning guests, who knows they probably take the place over too!

Room Tip: Room upgrade advised

Just returned from our 8th stay at the Bonamar. Excellent hotel. Staff all excellent, friendly and will help you in anyway they can. Yes you have to pay a deposti for towels, remote control for the television, no problems as you get this back on day of departure. The pool area is lovely and plenty of sunbeds and parasols. Sea view room or garden view is a must, you do pay extra but well worth it.Natalie in charge of the entertainment is excellent , The hotel is in a great position for Cala Bona and Cala Millor . The Spar run by Eileen and Pedro is great for all your needs, and bread rolls made on request . Will be back in 2014 to this great hotel .

Room Tip: Sea view or garden view .
