I must confess to being a little confused by the review from Doodah as we were there at the same time as them and though there is a little factual information within their review trying to link
this to "the regulars" is wholely inaccurate and at the very least unfair.
Yes the Bonamar does have a large number of regular returning guests, of which me and my partner are two, but this is because we have all found an excellent and friendly hotel where we can relax,
unwind and generally enjoy our holiday. I wont go into all of the plus points (and odd negative) for the Bonamar which are covered many times in the reviews but will say that the stats speak for
themselves with this small 112 room hotel currently sitting 3rd in the ratings on Tripadvisor for the whole of Cala Bona and up against some far larger and grander establishments.
The term "regulars" does imply that it is one large group of people who meet up together each year and completely take over the hotel. The reality is that it is in fact a diverse cross section of
people and couples who just happen to like coming to the Bonamar each year for their holiday. Some enjoy the games and the social aspect whilst others (me and the missus) just enjoy relaxing by the
pool and watching the fun. There is certainly no clique mentality and both myself and my partner comment on just how open and friendly everybody is to everyone whether it is your first visit or (in
the words of Cornelius) your last!
It does appear that the sunbed situation did get a little silly this year but my understanding from the other half, who went down in a morning, was that there were as many unfamiliar faces waiting
at the doors as there were "regulars". Very much the petrol shortage mentallity in that once the word got round that their might be a shortage of sunbeds then the more people started queuing each
day. I will however say that most people who put towells down onto the beds did spend the whole day there (no reseving and then going off for the day) and the hotel did there bit by putting some
additional beds out in the garden for those that couldn't get around the pool.
We were also generally one of the first back up from dinner each evening and most of the bar and stage area was empty so the comments regarding people rushing their food to ensure they had prime
position for the evenings entertainment are a little odd? We would generally relax for 30 minutes with an after dinner drink before going out for a walk into the harbour at Cala Bona which is
lovely and a great way to walk off the excess.
I have no idea who Doodah is but what I can say is their opnions are certainly not representative of the hotel guests we have ever met be they first time visitors or "regulars" and they are
certainly not a true reflection of the situation at the Bonamar.
The reality of the true situation is that this hotel is now so popular if you do not book nearly a year in advance you cannot be guaranteed the dates that you want!
