“good hotel for families”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

This is a very good hotel for young families the rooms are very clean and modern. Ok location a short walk to the town the beaches are a bit further we were S/C so can not comment on the food. The entertainment seemed to be good better than some other hotels we have stayed at. The resturants in the town are plentiful with all price ranges available. Overall from the reception staff to the cleaner all are very freindly and welcoming. I would recomend this hotel to families with young children.

Room Tip: please ask for a pool view

This is our second visit to this hotel and complex. We came Oct half term last year for 5 days with grandparents and are repeating the fab experience for 10 days this Oct Half term. We also brought my sister and her family this year it is so good. We are already planning next year.

Why is it so great. Well the children love it (currently aged 9,8,7,4). I do mean love it. There are clubs and craft and drop in sessions and organised sessions, parties, out door and in door pols (indoor good this time of year, but out door ok for a little while, just cold so bring a wetsuit for your kids if you insist on sun bathing). My husband and I get 2-4 hours guilt free time each day (no additional cost except the parties which are every 3 days or so, Halloween party 3 euros and Hawaii party 5 euros and chocolate party 5euros)

There is a lovely coast line, best beach 15 minute walk, cycles to hire, lots to see locally, end of season means shopping for Spanish dresses and nic nacs cheap.

Flew out self catering, which worked out best for us as we buy half board when we get here for 25 euros for adults, half price for 7-12 and quarter price for 2-6. If you want you can mix and match and just buy evening buffet style meals. There is an Italian restaurant you can use on site as well. We tried a few restaurants off site last year and they more expensive over all, and the choice for children ( one of my kids is really fussy) is better at the hotel with every fruit you can imagine and a designated children's low bar just for the kids to help themselves. We bought with us tea, coffee, wraps and things the kids can't manage without for lunch. We also bought a dish cloth (tea towel provided), some washing tablets as there is a laundrette on site. There is also a small supermarket which sells everything pretty much 8 minute walk away.

Rooms are cleaned 5 out of 7 afternoons, so as a mum this is the most rest I get all year!!!

It has been so restful I am filling this in on the holiday on the free wifi. I think that speaks volumes.

Room Tip: Check Buying half board or all inclusive on arrival if with kids, as it may work out cheaper. Roo...

My wife and I stayed here October 2012 and like everything in Cala Bona at that time of year it was a bit quiet which suited us as this is a family hotel and I would imagine that in the peak season there would have been hoards of screaming kids everywherewhich wouldn't have been as pleasurable for us.

The hotel itself is near the top end of Cala Bona about 300 yards from the nearest supermarket and the Asian all you can eat buffet it is also about a ten minute walk from the marina and the Majority of the cafes and bars.

The exterior of the hotel is very welcoming as is the reception area and bar/tv room parts of the hotel. The wifi in the reception area is fairly quick and most inportantly its free if you use your own phone, tablet or smartphone there are a couple of desktop computers which you can use for a few euros. drinks are obviously more expensive than in the bars and cafes down nearer the marina but show me a hotel which isn't.

the apartment itself has been recently renovated and the fittings and fixtures are quite mordern and look very nice yopu get a kitchen with twin ceramic hob, toaster, kettle microwave , full sized fridge with freeezer compartment, sink/drainer and of course all the cutlery, plates, cups, glasses etc that you will need even down to a tea towel.

Main living area consists of a two bed setees which are quite hard, a small dining table with 4 chairs, a coffee table and a decent sized Grundig lcd Tv ( you need to obatin the remote from reception which requires a 10 euro refundable deposit) and there is a lockable patio door on to the balcony which has a table two chairs and a clothes drying rack.

Bathroom was nodern with toilet, bath with overbath shower and sink but no bidet just outsdie the bathroom is a large wardrobe.

Bedroom has two side by side single beds two bedside cabinets with one drawer in each there is a large wardrobe which also contains the safe ( the safe costs £19 euros for the week but you get 5 euros back when you return the key making it 14 euros). there is also air con contorls in both the bedroom and the living area.

The staff are very polite and helpful as are the Thompson reps both staff and reps are very knowledgable about the whole island. behind the thompsons reps desk there is a box of item which other guests have left behind which maybe of use to others things like unused sun tan lotions, shampoos , books even some inflatables and food items which brings me to my only complaint this box is meant for other holiday makers but on a couple of occassions I saw a certain member of the nightime reception staff browse through the box and remove items for herself nothing much just a bottle of washing up liquid and few onions and a couple of things i couldn't make out .

Weatherwise it was pleasantly warm the whole week low to mid 20's not really sunbathing wetather but shorts and t-shirts weather (Oct 18th - 25th) only rained on one night and then not for long.

We booked this at the last minute. As 2 adults travelling without children I was worried it would be over run with kids but it was fine- about half the guests had kids, half didn't. I was pleased withe the room & having a separate lounge always helps. The only thing I didn't like was that we could hear the aircon for the kitchins in our room. We were half board and the food was fine- better than I expected. It's not the prettiest hotel, but it was clean. I woudl like to suggest the hotel puts small tables by the sunbeds so you have somewhere to put drinks. Also the sunbeds need replacing as many were broken. Overall I enjoyed a much needed rest.

Went with our Daughter and Husband, grandson age 4 and grandaughter age 2. We went AI while we had the family with us, normally my Husband and I would go SC. The hotel was lovely, very clean, modern furniture. We expected to be classed as second class citizens while we were AI, but we were amazed. The first day when we arrived we went for lunch around 2pm at the Bar and had to ask which was the AI menu - we were told everything - we were really impressed -the food was wonderful - the service exceptional - the evening buffet meal continued with food to suit everyone and Breakfast buffet was the same high standard - I could not fault the food and I am an extremely fussy eater. The waiters who served us at lunchtime Oskar, Dani and Maguel were also waiting on tables in the Bar in the evening, we never sat without a drink in front of us
they brought drinks without us even asking - they were truly amazing and worked extremely hard. The hard work continued with the Thomson Reps entertaining the children and they put on a wonderful show of Cinderella which our two children were glued to - the whole of the staff are a credit to this Hotel. The pirate ship in the splash pool was a huge success with our two, my only negative here was there were a few small tiles missing in the centre which you had to be careful of, it was coming to the end of the season so nodoubt these will be fixed before the start of the new season next year. The only other negative would have to be the indoor pool. Not very large and when my Husband and I went in we were unable to swim due to a family who had 3 large lilos and one large ring - they were having fun - so we didn't complain - there was no lifeguard in there to question whether they should have been in there with these, but there was certainly no room for them and maybe this is something the hotel could look into for next year. Overall could not fault this hotel for cleanliness, hospitality, choice of food and presentation and a 1st class service. This is one hotel we would definately come back to with the grandchildren, would we come back on our own - possibly - bearing in mind it is a family hotel. We were in block 5 overlooking the pool - we had the sun all day and it wan't a bit noisy. Normally you hear some noise from the rooms next door or above - but I can say we never heard a noise - we couldn't even hear our grandchildren next door.

This was very much a last-minute quickie in mid-October, booked at 4 days notice at half the brochure price. Went self-catering as Susan just getting over recent operation and unable to eat solids. The apartment was spacious with a large bedroom and a sitting room/kitchen/diner - with large flat-screen TV and even a blender to liquidise my wife's food (we'd brought our own !) - plus a balcony with table and chairs, overlooking the pool and facing west - to catch the afternoon sun. The bathroom was very modern with plenty of hot water and towels changed 5 times in a week.

Although we did not eat in the dining room, the restaurant looked very smart. The hotel staff and the Thomsons "advisors" were all polite and helpful. Although this is featured as a family hotel, the time of year meant that there were not many children - except for pre-schools. However the entertainment, for young and old, was practically non-stop from 10.00am until 10.30pm.

We liked the relatively quiet resort and the weather was brilliant for the first 4 days - and OK for the rest.

Thoroughly recommended - for oldies like us, during term time - and for those with kids, at any time !

Room Tip: Block 5 - facing the pool (and west) - although, in high season, might be quieter facing away from p...

Turned up to be met by a cheery thomsons rep, easy check in and straight up to the room.
This hotel was an a real surprise, the rooms were fantastic, the staff and reps were fantastic and the location was fantastic.
The Bonaire had the best self catering facilities I've ever seen in a hotel, absolutely everything you could need is provided.
Drinks are slightly pricier than at bars and restaurants locally.
I would return here without a doubt.
Short review but there isn't really a lot to write everything that the hotel advertises and everything that thomsons tell you is true here.
Am considering going back next year for a last minute get away.
