Grupotel Gran Vista & Spa
Ranked #2 of 39 Hotels in Ca'n Picafort
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 18, 2013

We spent a week at the Grupotel Gran Vista in C’an Picafort at the beginning of July. We always do a lot of research on Trip Advisor prior to choosing our Hotel and we were not disappointed with our choice. There are plenty of grounds and swimming pools as well as sunbeds so there is never a need to get up early to get a bed.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful and we had to ring the Thomson helpline to locate a lost pirate teddy for a distraught granddaughter which she had left on a bus. The teddy was reunited with one very happy girl which was brought to her hotel room – so first class service.

The food was good with plenty of choice and the restaurant had several different areas with seating, so finding a table was never a problem. If there is a criticism it would just be the way the food was laid out which was a little confusing and avoiding other diners was a constant issue, but you got used to it.

The rooms were spacious, décor of ensuite very good, plenty of English TV channels. The wardrobes were of a good size with enough clothes hangers. Only downside for me was the ensuite door which does not shut like a conventional door and opens each way and tends to swing – resulting in one very bruised arm. Also anyone using the ensuite at night needs to put the light on which then illuminates the whole bedroom as the door is made of glass which isn’t entirely opaque or private.

Not a bad location as only a short walk to a street lined with shops and bars leading to a sandy beach and promenade. Quite easy to catch a bus to Alcudia, Muro and Port de Pollenca
Entertainment great for kids early evening with usually band or tribute act on in the evening. Lovely rooftop bar with fabulous views and occasional evening entertainment as well.

We would recommend this hotel for families - must be one of the best hotels in the resort. We would definitely consider using Grupotels again.

Room Tip: higher floors good view.

just returned from a brilliant holiday with my wife and two teenage daughters, i must say i read the reviews and thought it cant be that good, well how wrong, the staff were amazing special mention to Jose the man is amazing setting up and cleaning up the pool areas every day and always took the time to speak, David and Pepe two great guys in the bars again who work tremendously hard ,the entertainment team (to many names to mention) but Ruben as now a place on my friends list ,yes the place is mainly German but my children made some great friends and they all was there to wave us of at 7.30am, sun beds were plenty and some days at mid day there were beds still stacked even though the odd person seemed it would be fine to stick towels on i am afraid this was mainly Brits, the food was 1st class both breakfast and dinner, the roof top bar is amazing the sunset is something not to be missed, the rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels again the cleaners working hard, the only thing i would say is i like to get up and have a cup of tea in the morning ,so it would be nice to have that facility in your room, but that would not put me off booking again , so see you next year,

I stayed here for a week this summer and had an amazing time. It's right next to the beach and main area of the town but has everything you need in the hotel grounds. It's perfect for families and couples. All of the staff were friendly and all spoke excellent English. I would definitely return!!

Most of what I said is repeating what's been said before. A nice, clean hotel. We had a room for 3 and managed fine, but we had a 2 year old and I can imagine with an older child space being a bit tight. Our room looked over the hotel and had a view out to see which meant you could see the sun rise over the sea. No problems with sunbeds, whatever the time of day which I thought was excellent given it was peak season. My daughter loved all the pools. Service in the restaurant was good and the waiters were all friendly and worked extremely hard, but I would say while there was lots of choice at dinner time it was often quite bland so we ate out twice in resort and the food here was much better.

The resort itself is very typical with your mix of beach shops, supermarkets and cafe/bars, nothing really to write home about. We went through Thomson and the service was poor. We only found out about the welcome meeting by accident, we went on two excursions - Marineland which was great and was fair value for money; the Orange Blossom Trail - unless you are a transport enthusiast stay away from this. It's extremely expensive 70+ euros per person, you spend 3 hours in total on a coach going through mountains, half an hour on a tram and 45 mins on a train. The places you stop off are okay, but nothing particularly special. The rep in the hotel was perfectly amenable, but again no rep on wither transport and on the way from the airport the bus stopped and no announcement was made, you just had to know this was your stop.

Overall, the hotel was nice enough and I would stay in a Grupotel again, just not in this resort.

We booked this break as a week to chill out and we certainly did and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in this lovely hotel and location was perfect for us. Loved the beach (although busy) - waves were fab!

Positives:

Location, excellent warm pools and bistro restaurant was very good, roof top bar great, air conditioning in our room was excellent (important to us!), staff were friendly everywhere in the hotel and worked so hard, always a smile and hello and nothing was too much trouble. Spotlessly clean. Abundance of sunbeds plenty of space all around. Our room was available for late check out (until past midnight) for 30 euros. Free mini golf. English TV (handy with a 8 year old!)

Negatives:

Smallest room I have ever stayed in for the three of us. Little noisy as could hear next doors child waking up every night.
Water in our room from the shower was luke warm/cold! Reported this twice, maintenance arrived on two separate occasions but did not seem to agree with me! Water from sink very hot - gave up trying to get a conclusion and washed my 8 year old son's hair with water from the sink!
Food - ok but not very exciting to be honest. Ate breakfast out three times.
Usual gripe of having to pay for a safe and Wi-Fi!! 15 euros each but a lot of hotels charge.
Entertainment - mmm not too impressed with Elvis myself but our 8 year old enjoyed it!
Don't bother booking through Thomson as there is hardly a presence there and the girl who helped me on one occasion re luke warm water was in shorts and trainers and looked as though she really couldn't care less! No rep on either coach transfer. No welcome meeting offered other than through hotel management.

All in all we would return but would definitely choose an apartment and self catering.

good points - sparkling clean. the staff are all lovely. pools are clean. plenty of sun beds. shaded areas available, rooms are lovely, all air conditioned. the entertainment staff were amazing, worked really hard with the kids in both english and german (the majority in the hotel are german) my son and husband used the spa and gym which was also brilliant. be aware that the germans like to get their kit off in the spa.

points for improvement - the food was dull dull dull and eating in the evening was a works canteen experience rather than a pleasure. we ate out 4 times as we could not face it every evening. there was never an evening meal that i really enjoyed. breakfast was great though they literally cater for all. On a sunday there is even cava and smoked salmon
- free wifi!! - for goodness sake, this is 2013
- there should be water available aound the pools. we paid a lot of money for the holiday, why have to buy water?
- the resort is not very nice - but it does not really matter as you have everything y9ou need within the hotel
- they gave us no information about the local area - markets etc which you normally get on holiday. its *almost* as if they don't want you to leave and spend money elsewhere :-)

overall - a good place to say with small children or young teenagers. it felt safe. i would say that for a single parent it would be ideal.

Room Tip: if you want quiet stay away from the pool side of the hotel. if you ask for a room near the top flo...

We had a fantastic week here in July such a lovely hotel and staff so friendly, no complaints at all.We had a nice room on the 4th floor overlooking the pools and views towards the sea in the distant, room was exceptionally clean our maid Carmen did a great job.Lovely bathroom with massive shower and good hairdryer. Food was delicious both breakfast and dinner with so much choice.Restaurant manager always there making sure all was well and all the staff couldnt do enough for you.Eating outside under the awning was lovely at breakfast and we usually ate in one of the 3 dining areas inside the reastaurant in the evenings. On our last morning we left at 6.30am for the airport the hotel laid on cold breakfast choices from 3am until 7am which was nice too as airport food is expensive and breakfast didnt start until 7.45. The hotel management including the 2 directors, arranged a cocktail evening in the Panorama bar on the hotel roof for the British guests to meet each other and were genuinely interested in feedback and spoke to everyone individually. We enjoyed the roof terrace Panorama bar most evenings especially the Mojitos at sunset that we read about on here, entertainment some evenings up there too including a chill out night with beds!Views over C'an Picafort from there were fantastic too.The entertainment in the bar down by the pool was popular with families we only went in once but we did watch the Michael Jackson tribute at the pool party outside, think it was a shame they didnt have the entertainment outside more often as it was very hot while we were there and we enjoy being outside so often went walking along the lovely promenade in the evening as well as the shops as open late then either a drink in the Panorama bar at the end of the night or just a relaxing drink on our lovely balcony. The beach was lovely too in the day only a short walk down the street full of little shops, 2 beds and sun umbrella 10 euros but you could just sit on towels etc if you wanted to plenty of space. There was always a nice cooling breeze down there and waves in the sea so great fun on a lilo! As we had such big breakfasts lunch was a walk to the Jamaican bar on the promenade for a Sangria it was more like a large fruit salad, delicious! We also enjoyed all of the pools at the hotel, very picturesque setting, none of them were ever too busy with hundreds of sunbeds always some available what ever time of day, with plenty of grassy areas to put them too,so no need to get up early, although a few British guests did reserve them with towels while we were there but have no idea why! On the one drizzly morning we had 2 indoor pools to choose from, the spa was free to hotel guests and aswell as the pool had a jaccuzzi, plunge pool, steam room, ice room, turkish bath and numerous other gadgets, never busy so bliss! It was also nice to visit the spa to cool off when it got too hot outside in the afternoons.Treatments such as massages could be booked, a back massage was 24 euros. Crazy golf was free,we had fun playing and it was in good condition not like some we have had in other places.
I could go on forever praising this hotel, we loved it and so glad we chose the Gran Vista will hopefully return in the future and would definatly recomend it.
