Hotel & Spa S'Entrador Playa
Ranked #7 of 59 Hotels in Cala Ratjada
Reviewed April 14, 2011

Myself and my partner have been back to this hotel 3 times now - we love it. The staff are so friendly and helpful (its a real case of the guests are the most important people) We chilled out so much that if we chilled anymore we'd be dead. The hotel is last one on the Cala Ratjada strip over looking Cala Agula which is a beautiful beach. We both really needed to destress having just recently moved house here in UK and we certainly did. Cala Ratjada itself does not offer much in terms of good shopping etc but the tacky shops are fun to walk around and you can find the odd gem. It is predominately a German resort and we love this as we don't have to get into too many conversations with other people. The spa is great especially steam room but be aware you English prudes the Germans do like to strip off and let it all hang out. We sort of adjusted to the sights but held on to our bikinis (for dear life). Great holiday and we will definitely be retuning.

The staff is just the best, so helpfull and friendly, they bring us the breakfast to the room with a little cake and its candel for my wife's bithday. I found this hotel really clean and with an excellent quality in food and drinks.
We have been 2 times at hotel S'entrador playa for my wife's birthday in February, and I think we will come to the island next year also.

I can't believe others rated this hotel so highly. The hotel was registered as second in the list of hotels in Cala Ratjada, with some fantastic reviews, so we had no hesitation in making our booking. It's dificult to comprehend how inaccurate many of these reviews were. You should firstly understand that the resort and hotel is almost entirely German (guests and businesses). We quickly found out that most of the holiday makers in the resort (but not this hotel), were on the German equivalent of an 18-30 holiday. There were large blocks of flats in the centre of town with gangs of German gentlemen hanging over their balconies, shouting at passers-by, beer in hand. Every morning, we had literally hundreds of gangs of men passing the hotel with cool boxes full of beer and getto blasters blaring out. Some were dressed in fancy dress, which made us wonder whether it was an event for this partiuclar week (which could account for some of the other reviews). The same happended in the opposite direction at tea time as they came back from the beach - although they were very drunk and we saw a few fights and blokes walking with trowsers pulled down. Tasteful. The beach itself would have been nice had it not been for the huge gangs of drunk German blokes, competing with each other's music system. This was very irritating because the sea was clear and calm and the sand was nice.
The hotel is a very average 2-3 star. The hotel reception was nothing special but the staff were reasonably helpful. That said, there was nobody to be seen when we pulled up to help with our luggage and we had to take our suitcases to our room ourselves after check-in. The room was small and we had a decent view of the sea which was nice. We stayed half board and the food was incredibly poor quality. Most of the food was cold - apart from the ice cream which was sloppy. We really struggled to find any meats that weren't chewy. There was very little fish option. You typically expect prawns, salmon etc. in a four star hotel but not here. Waitresses hardly ever removed plates so you had to either do this yourself or keep asking them. The dishes were left picked through and you had to keep asking the staff to bring new food. If you left it late to eat, you would have to sort through the remains of what was left. You had to pay extra for decent orange juice at breakfast (please don't attempt the watered down juice they served for 'free'). We had to pay extra for a steak at night, which we found very odd when we thought we had paid for our evening meal in the price of the hotel. The dining room was too hot with no atmosphere and while there was the option to sit outside, this was where all the smokers were sat so we could never take that option. Because the food was so bad, we chose to eat out a couple of times to try to find some decent quality food.
During the day, we tried the pool area once. It was mostly under shade during the day due to the trees and the orientation of the building. The bit of sun was taken by the groups of German guests. The sun beds were dirty and very few staff around to keep the area clean or to order drinks/stacks when you sat around the pool. Evening entertainment was non-existent, although there was German football on a big screen on two nights! There were hardly any other children for our little boy to play with and the few that were there were German of course. We made the most of our holiday by travelling to other places nearby in our hire car. We had booked to stay for a week but after five days, for the first time ever, we called it a day and decided to check out. Thankfully the reception staff were very helpful in booking us a room at a Riu Bonanza Play hotel in Palma. Unfortunately they didn't see fit to ask us why we'd decided to check out and made no offer to refund the last two days' payment. The difference in quality, service, atmosphere and food at the Riu was unbelievable and we were so pleased we moved hotel.

We arrived after a delayed flight arounf 1 am to be told "do not bother unloading your luggage as we are overbooked by 17 people for the next 2 days", so not a good start however they put us up in another hotel nearby for 2 nights, although this was also a 4 star hotel I would rate it as a 2 plus. We went back next morning to discuss this with the general manager. We arranged a discount on the rooms and would still use all the facilities and the restaurant at the Sentrador. We moved in 2 days later and it was all much better from here on, we could not fault the hotel, the food was excellent, the staff very friendly, the spa was also tremendous and was included in the price. it was a 2 min walk to a first class beach that was very shallow even when out 50m, nice forrest walks and also a nice path following the coast into the town, We were the only British there the rest being German but this suited us fine as there were no drunks etc going around it was mostly middle aged but they also had a superb kids spa in the hotel.
If I have to complain it would be the tennis court was 15 euro per hour which I thought was a bit steep and not only that I was playing with sandles on as was just playing for fun with the kids when I was told I could not play anymore as you could only play witth tennis shoes so only got 5 mins and the main complainet being the over booking which did spoil the stay slightly.

I loved the time I passed there. When we arrived we were received by the director that told us a bit about the surroundings. During the week, the service was excellent with great food and the staff was always there for what we need, If possible, I will go there again.

My husband and I stayed here with our daughters, aged 19 and 20, for a relaxing summer break. The hotel is at the far end of Cala Ratjada, really in Cala Aguilla, close to the beach. The beach itself is not great, very bumpy, and gets absolutely packed. Far better to take the no 47 bus on the 7 minute trip to the fantastic Cala Mesquida beach.
The staff at the hotel are delightful, nothing was too much trouble. One daughter had a birthday while we were staying there, and they arranged for a fruit basket, and a complimentary glass of champagne for her in the bar that night. They had set a special table for her at dinner and the hotel director escorted us to the reserved table, having sung Happy Birthday. I guess they got her birthday from the passports, as we had not mentioned it to them - How amazing is that!
The restaurant staff was lovely too, and the choice of food great. So much choice every night, including a meat bbq on one evening and a fish night also. Vegetarians were never forgotten. Breakfast also provided a huge choice, including skimmed milk for the health conscious! TV in the room only had Sky News and a music channel in English. WiFi not free, but bought a voucher code for the week.
The only disappointment was that the pool was cold…colder than the sea, and we only went in once. There are lots of trees, and much of the pool was shaded. There were plenty of sunbeds. The hotel, as well as the whole resort was German, with some Italian. We were the only English. However this was not a problem until we wanted to watch the opening game of the football season and could find no bars showing English games. A trip to Cala Millor, 45 mins on the bus, was needed for that, as hubby and daughters could not miss it!
Overall, a great hotel, great staff and a great holiday.

If you are looking for a quiet vacation, this is the place.
The hotel is great and all the clients can use the spa, free of charge.
There are many things to do if you don't want to spend all your day at the beach. The hotel organizes little excursions with a guide. Most of the clients are germans, so the prime language is german. There are also a few italiens and french. We are portuguese, and all the staff thought we were italien. Not a problem!
If you want to see other attractions in the area there is a bus stop near the hotel and if you ask at the reception the will give you the timetable of the buses. We went by bus to Portocristo and saw the "Cuevas de Drach" and came back to the hotel on a boat (you can see all the coast line from portocristo to capdepera).
The city off Palma is a hour and a half way by bus, and if you live in the express bus at nine in the morning you can see the center of the city and catch the four o'clock express to Capdepera.
In Arta there is very nice market and there they also have caves like in Drach. The hotel organizes excursions to this places. They also organize a two hour walk to Capdepera Castle, very nice view ... WE LOVE IT.
The food was very good and you can eat it outside by the pool.
