We have just returned from a ten day family holiday at the hotel. My overall view is that it was good for a four star hotel. The pool was extremely well maintained and had plenty of steps and depth variations. The sun beds......well, the great sunbed reservation wars proved highly amusing! As previous posts mention, there were people of all nationalities out 'claiming' beds by 6.30am. Apparently, one family of Germans were out at midnight to claim their run of ten beds on a daily basis; so incensed were their fellow countrymen, that a very loud argument ensued due to the fact that the towels were removed.....shock horror!! The following day our breakfast was made all the more entertaining as we watched a hotel worker with his shopping trolley removing towels from all unoccupied beds. The looks on people's faces as they arrived to find someone else on 'their' bed was priceless. We could not resist going to sit on a couple of the beds just to see/hear the reactions as people arrived. It wasn't that there was a lack of sunbeds -just not in the same spot that they had laid claim to on previous days in 'their' spot. Life really is too short to get so worked up about something so very trivial; it's just a shame that the reception staff had to listen to so much abuse ( in many languages) for simply enforcing what they state in their information, ie. that you cannot reserve sunbeds.
Our room, a junior suite was very good; well maintained, an extremely comfortable bed and very spacious . There was an issue with the air con and initially we were told it was working well. When my husband pointed out that it seemed to be much cooler and working properly in the other two rooms we had for our family, the manager eventually conceded there could be a problem and it was remedied on the second day.
The food was of a high standard with the cold food and salads being particularly good. It was always very fresh and well presented. Our only complaint was from our veggie daughter who, on starting one or two supposedly veggie options found that they actually contained meat or fish eg. tuna in a veggie pasta sauce and croquettes labelled 'potato' actually containing bacon. Clear signage would gave been helpful.
We had taken the all inc option which was useful in that it meant not having to carry cash or constantly sign pieces of paper. The food was good but the drinks were questionable....the 'cocktails' came ready mixed with an interesting after taste, the red wine was chilled the white wine was poured from a plastic jug. Enough said really.
The entertainment was 'interesting'......professional it wasn't, however, after a few days, as long as you accepted that that was as good as it was going to get, then it was possible to laugh along with their efforts. Full marks for their enthusiasm, especially Jana and Franco.
A six year old in our party went to mini club; his mother was not too happy at the fact that they could wander in and out at will and especially on one occasion when he was left unattended in the pool. However, after a firm word with reception staff the children were always well supervised in the pool and he thoroughly enjoyed going along to the club. The fact that some of the mini disco songs were in a foreign language did not matter a jot - all children joined in and it almost added to the fun that they had to try to follow the actions rather than the words......parents too!
The hotel is in a good spot at one end of Calla Millor. It was a twenty five minute walk to the castle on the nature reserve - well worth doing. It was the same along to the port in Cala Bona. Best to do that in the very early morning before the great and the good start pouring onto the beaches by 10am when it becomes crowded and not nearly so pleasant. There is a strip of shops/bars along the promenade and also one street back from the promenade; if you like that sort of thing then there is probably something to suit.
The beaches are clean and there are plenty of sunshades and beds if you are there before lunchtime; it seemed fairly hit and miss as to whether someone came to collect the money for them.
All in all it was a good hotel if you want somewhere to suit a family; I would not return purely on the basis that we went there to suit a young child rather than going to the quieter places we usually choose. That was our problem, not the hotel; they did a very good job providing exactly what they promised in the brochure.
