Owner description: The tower of El Salvador was built in the early XIVth century. The central section resembles the Almohad minarets' placement of a tower inside another tower. The inner rooms display information about Mudéjar Architecture. On 28 November 1986 UNESCO declared the whole Teruel mudéjar complex a World Heritage site, due to its exceptional and universal value. Its primary function is still that of a bell tower. It has been open to visitors since its last restoration in 1993.

This is one of the most beautiful towers of Teruel. Unfortunately we didn´t have the opportunaty to enter and climb the way up to the top to enjoy the view. It must be great.

The Tower of San Salvador was built between 1320 and 1330, together with its church. The construction of this tower is quite innovative because it has two concentric towers separated by one meter. This was the tradition when constructing minarets by the Almohade Dynasty. The ground plan is rectangular and the inner passageway has a ribbed vault. To go up to the bell tower, one has to go up 119 steps. The door at the base of the tower shows a pointed arch. The ceramic tile decoration has the green and white colors and eight pointed stars are formed with the ceramic tile. Each level of the tower is delineated with tiling in rhomboid patterns, borders and semi-circular arches in green and white tiles. Simply beautiful!

A beautiful set of stars with excellent brickwork containing embedded ceramics. If you are coming or going to the train station, use the nearby elevator.
