The main plaza in Teruel is the Plaza del Torico. It is adorned with a fountain in the middle of the plaza. There is a statue of a small bull on top of the column in the fountain. There are small heads of bulls as the spigots of the fountain that come out of the column. Why does this fountain have a sculpture of a bull? It seems that when Alfonso II of Aragon went to the area, there appeared a small bull that led the way to the plaza, so this is where the town was founded. Teruel’s symbols are now the bull and the star.
