“Good hotel”
Reviewed May 9, 2011

One night stop in Ubeda. Location is very good and we had no problem parking to cars outside the hotel on the street. The hotel itself is ok, modern and spartan a little bland if you ask me but we had a very nice stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room and bathroom were clean and in good repair and a good size. Breakfast was included and good (continental).

Fine clean hotel with good size room and bathroom. The pool is a very welcome bonus in peak summer . Finding the hotel is challenging and then leaving the town can be a headache . I timed my departure for early morning to avoid irritating locals with my hesitant driving and was very glad to have done so . A google or maporama printoff is pretty essential to locate it and also try to approach from the Jaen side as entry via the newer parts is a bit frustrating. The reception have a supply of excellent town map sheets that would be very useful if obtainable before arrival.

We stayed at the Hotel el Postigo for a week with two small children (2 and 6 years old). We booked one of the suite units with a living room and bedroom. It had a nice view of the pool and the city skyline.

The hotel is a pocket of modern design within the old town of Ubeda. The attention to detail is outstanding. The design and layout of the property is nice. The rooms are well equipped and furnished in a modern style with updated furnishings, glass tables, and vessel sinks in the bathroom.

The pool is quite beautiful and matches the photos on the web site. It is small but has a lot of ambiance. Even in July the water was a bit cool. The pool is somewhat deep and not suitable for kids who can not swim. Access to the pool is easy right out the side door.

The hotel's location is quite nice in the center of old Ubeda. Just a 5 minute walk from the cathedral. The location also brings a couple disadvantages. There is no official hotel parking and street parking is limited. Finding the hotel, even with a GPS was challenging. The problems may have been more severe because of the Renaissance festival (at least with some streets blocked) but in any case it would be a challenge. The roads are ultra narrow on the side streets. Finding the hotel was tricky (would be very hard without the GPS). Get detailed directions before coming.

The staff in the hotel were very attentive. The only reason for not giving full marks is that their knowledge of English was not as good as some other hotels. They were very accommodating of the children, giving us an extra set of sheets for the couch or offering a roll-away bed. The staff also helped us secure a nice street parking space.

Free wireless was available in the hotel. A tip for those that don't know Spanish - they pronounce WiFi as "WeeFee". Knowing this would have saved some time when getting the password from the night guard.

I recommend also visiting Baeza, smaller and more deserted but lacking nice hotel options.

Overall this was a very pleasant stay. The hotel was outstanding. The city of Ubeda is beautiful. Not visited by many English-speaking Tourists but should be a priority.

I am spaniard and I work as a Concierge in a top 5 stars hotel in Marbella, so when I go to an hotel I check for many things althouh i am on vacation!.
This new hotel has a lot of good aspects. I tell you, the young staff (even her young GM) has a top attitude and you can see how involved in the business they are.

Location: it is a bit apart( well, actually it is just 5 minutes away from the Townhall square) but still within the sightseen protected area of the town. To park is a bit challenging. I recommend you to check in google map first and have a look. Then, once you get to Ubeda, try to park in any of the paralelI or nearby streets/squares.

Rooms: modern, minimal decoration but still warm & cozy. Everything worked properly. LCD tv screen OLG with spanish TDT. I missed just a place where put the shampoo while I had a shower and a bigger body towel. Nevertheless, nice Rainforest shower.
Everything clean and well appointed.

Bfast: I didn´t have it.

Staff: the receptionist can be bellboy, and waiter (remenber this is a 3 star Hotel) but the service is so great! The chimenee and the games(pictionary, cards, etc) that you have in the salon, provides in the cold winter of Ubeda a great atmosphear for a raining afternoon (in case the weather doesn´t help). We ordered a Ribera del Duero red wine bottle for 12€.

Pool: small but nice. I was there in winter but I gess in the hot summer of Ubeda will be pretty thanked! :-)

Website: although they speak english, their website is only in spanish. They just opened 5 months ago, so I gess later on they will add it in english.

In general:
1)after a whole day visiting Ubeda or Baeza, you have seen so many old stones, historic monuments and sightseens ,that it is nice to get into a such a nice "actual" ambience.

2)I know a bit of this business and I tell you they really have what for me is the most important in the hospitality (of course you first need to have a good product and they have it) is: the Sense of Service. They have it too.

3)Either if you go for a weekend in case you live in the andalusian coastline, or if you are travelling through Andalusia, Ubeda and Baeza are a pair of undercover WorldHeritage small towns protected by UNESCO, that you should not forget to visit. An this hotel is definetely a good choice. Specially if you want to avoid old hotels in a nice old palace but with a not friendly staff or with problems with the basics facilities such as pipes, A/C, etc... A couple of friends that made the trip with us stayed in a different hotel with this description...

As you can imagine, specially for me looking to get out of the busy Costa del sol, this trip was very nice.

  • Liked — The modern ambience within so many History! The great staff! The very nice rooms!
  • Disliked — Not easy to park the car but not imposible. Ubeda is not New York! :-) Check with them before arrival.
