“Beautiful hotel, fantastic setting”
Reviewed October 22, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here with 70 other guests for an event. The rooms were fantastic and very clean. The setting was absolutely amazing and the views are superb. I couldn't actually fault my stay here at all. Felt slightly sorry for other guests which may have turned up when we were all having a party. Would definitely stay again.

This hotel is simply the best! We chose to stay here because of its proximity to the Alhambra. The hotel is definitely one of a kind in terms of delivering excellent service and is remote enough to create a sense of being in a world that is truly a slice of heaven. The breakfast buffet was excellent as was the restaurant for dinner.

Went to El Cortijo for a special holiday meal. Compared to the local bars and grills the hotel is very swanky although it doesn't feel at all pretentious. The location is fantastic with the hotel buildings simply stunning. Service is exemplary. Nothing is too much trouble. Unfortunately the food wasn't quite up to the price tag. Although enjoyable for 100 euros for 2 courses and only a couple of drinks I expected more. I would still recommend as you feel really special there. Just choose from the menu carefully.

A lovely, traditional Andalucian style hotel in a very remote location. If you are looking for a few days to get away from it all - this is the place! We found the hotel to be very quiet which was perfect. Our room (a classic double) was great, a good size with comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent, a very good selection. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The one major problem we had was the expense of the food at the two hotel restaurants. I know that coming to an expensive hotel, you should expect the restaurants to be pricey, but we found for the price the food wasn't actually that good. Our meal for 2 was 100 Euros ( for 2 starters and 2 mains, one glass of wine). The two restaurants were far too similar offering fine, gourmet dining. Would have been better to have a cheaper alternative as I'm sure most people would agree. Even lunch was expensive - for a sandwich 10-15 euro is ridiculous. I think the hotel were playing on their remote location, knowing that the guests don't really have any alternative. However, we did explore the area and found some nice (and much cheaper) restaurants on nearby village Riofrio. Would also highly recommend the restaurant at nearby Hotel Rural La Paloma. Delicious home-cooked Spanish food at a reasonable cost - the 2 of us ate a lovely meal for 40 Euros.
The outdoor swimming pool was lovely and spacious with comfy beds. However, the pool was freezing cold so I didn't go in and there was a real wasp problem which was annoying. I would recommend using the spa, we had it to ourselves! The massage I had was average and a bit disappointing to be honest, considering the price I paid. My husband did some horse riding, which we would recommend.

Room Tip: I think all rooms would be good, we asked for a top floor room to get views and hoping it would be q...

Great peaceful hotel. Evening meals were good quality with good service. Bar service was a little slow. Massive pool with loads of space. Service around the pool could be improved. Overall beautiful hotel for a peaceful break.

We love this hotel, my Husband and I stayed one night. Beautiful surroundings and the hotel itself feels authentic old Spain with a seriously luxurious spin. Service is second to none. We did feel that the food in the restaurants was overpriced, we ate in "La Finca" on the evening and Starters were 20 -25 euros (So I didn't have one!). The food was lovely, however.....! Pool area is a beautiful grassy oasis though they do seen to have a problem with wasps. My Husband got stung which was very painful and did mean our relax by the pool was less relaxing. Breakfast was amazing, everything you could possibly think of was on offer as well as things you wouldn't, even a glass of Cava, Nice! Checked out the pool bar for lunch and a burger was 20 Euros, so we left and went elsewhere for lunch. Shame as it would have been lovely to have lunch overlooking the pool. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

The staff values customer service and it showed from the moment we arrived. We were greeted with Zumo and a smile! The grounds are beautiful. Walking through the hallways takes you on a journey back in time to old Spain. If you are sensitive to heat, especially at night, make sure to secure a cooler, lover level room. We were initially in room 21, which was absolutely gorgeous. The room offers stunning views of the property and the mountains. The roof terrace was comfortable and very spacious. However, it was impossible to cool the room enough to make it comfortable for sleeping. We ultimately moved to room 63, which was fantastic and cool enough to sleep! We would definitely visit again (maybe next time, not int the peak of Summer).

Room Tip: If you don't tolerate heat very well, tell the staff that it's important that you are placed...
