“The best in Frigiliana for lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2012

Very nice food, excellent and friendly service, magnificent views. The best place in Frigiliana for lunch, we think - based on five years of winter experience. A very convenient place to bring your kids.

“Good food, good service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2012

El Porton is a little on the pricey side for a Spanish restaurant of its type, but that's justified by an interesting menu and imaginative presentation. We had dinner on a cold February night and naturally the place was not to busy and we could have done with fewer drafts and a bit more warmth. But the quality of the food and the efficiency and friendliness of the service went a good way to making up for the chill in the air.

“Fantastic tapas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2011

We stopped here for lunch and not knowing which dishes to order we simply asked for a selection of tapas for two and some bread to go with our sangria. The bread was wonderful - a bit like ciabatta but somewhat softer. The tapas was fantastic - and easily enough for three people. Dishes included fried onion strips in a Pedro de Ximenez sauce, tasty pork fillet morsels, stuffed peppers, chicken in a cream and mushroom sauce, chorizo, patatas bravas.

Two of us had the sangria and the third a glass of Coke. Two of us had desert. The flan was terrific. Lovely and creamy. Our bill came to around €27 which we thought was good value.

We sat on the terrace under the lemon trees where there was a lovely view of the bay. It was pleasantly warm notwithstanding this was the middle of December. While we were sitting there we were visited by two of the local tabby cats who weren't at all bothered by our dog. They just sat and watched everyone and surprisingly didn't beg for food.

“A typical Spanish reastaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2011

This was our third visit to this restaurant in as many years and everytime we have had good food and excellent service. The goat in almond sauce in lovely very tender and my husband who is a veggie always has the vegetable paellea which is very good but this time he tried the vegetable pasta which was also very tasty. There is plenty choice on the menu of meat and fish dishes and they have started to add a few more vegetarian dishes too we is quite rare in Spain. This restaurant is well worth a visit.

“Friendly restaurant popular with locals and Brits.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2011

Five of us turned up with no reservation, the terrace tables were all occupied, so we were offered a table in the well appointed, air conditioned dining room.
Within minutes of sitting down the waitress advised that if we would like to wait for 5 minutes a table would be made ready on the terrace. Good start.
She also took our drinks order and it was ready for us on the table when we went outside.
Our selections of starters and mains from the wide-ranging menu were all well presented and consumed with gusto so much so that we could only manage to accomodate a coffee and the customary free drink afterwards.
The view from the terrace whichj is dotted with olive and orange trees in pots is over the public gardens and down a valley to the sea.
El Porton takes credit cards and it's tables have red tablecloths, the restaurant next door takes cash only and has green table cloths.
Our bill came to 105 euros which included bread, 2 bottles of house wine, a large bottle of water, a soft drink and tax.
All in all very good value and efficient friendly service.
We'll be back.
