The Virgin of the “Peña.” It was located just next to the burro "donkey" taxi stand . The makeshift chapel inside a cave-like building is such a far cry from the ornate churches and chapels we are accustomed to seeing.
We have been here lots of times and it was a favourite place to visit by my dear mother sadly she passed away last year , she loved the the popular tradition of writing prayers on pieces of paper and then placing them inside the chapel walls .
Mijas pueblo is a hidden gem for tourist , plenty to see and the views from the gardens "next to the bull ring / church" are spectacular .
On a clear day you can see Gibraltar and the mountains of northern Africa so don't forget you camera.
