Description: Aroma Café & Secret Garden is a truly unique restaurant on the Costa del Sol. Firstly the restaurant is located in an old house dating to 1872 with many nooks and crannies to discover. Within its walls a whole world opens, starting with arguably Mijas´ most beautiful Andaluz Patio. Follow the Patio to its end and let a whitewashed passage guide you to our gem on the crown, the Secret Garden. Here you will find Mijas as it was a century ago, an enchanted forest of olive, orange, fig and loquat trees. Stroll to the end of this sprawling garden and you will discover an ancient ´water mine´ dating back to the Moorish times. In our garden you will enjoy Argentinean BBQ prepared right before your eyes into the early mornings on warm summer nights. Our celebrity Chef from the Canary Islands meanwhile prepares sumptuous dishes which will tempt you to come back time and again until all that is offered has been tasted! Now just come discover for yourself, our friendly team awaits you!!!

“Go when you're not in a hurry”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

The garden was very pleasant. There was a wandering chicken which amused our toddler. I only hope it hasn't made its way to the kitchen. We were unfortunate with our timing, arriving just after a large group of people, so the service was slow. We'd also just come from having a large plate of churros elsewhere so didn't order much . . . if I had the opportunity to go again, I'd go in the evening and try some of the food that everyone seems to be raving about.

“a welcome visit to a Secret Garden”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

I was soon to finish my walking tour of beautiful Mijas when I happened on Aroma Cafe. it seems to have several themed areas including an Arab Tea Lounge. I opted for the lovely Secret Garden where many mature trees keep company with vine and flower hung stone walls. The service was attentive but not too attentive. I had one of the daily specials - Ox tail with hand cut freshly fried straw potatoes. It was extremely good. The 3 hunks of oxtail were so richly, tenderly beefy and wine flavoured with the appropriate amount of yummy glutinous bits but little fat to cut off. Not cheap but value for money at 16.50 euros. Bread was extra and worth it to get a warm bread roll with butter as well as several amusing crunchy miniature baguette bites.

“Scrambled eggs as art form!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

Have eaten at Aroma quite a few times now and it ALWAYS is a delight!
The sublime herb-laden trout was a fitting introduction to such a fragrantly named eatery. On discovery that many of the staff responsible for chef-prep roles are Argentinian, I ventured down the Provoleta-entraña route and was anything but disappointed. Meat cuts are select, super tender, with plenty of excellent wines to wash them down.
On my most recent visit, Thomas (the charming owner) chose for us. Wow! I initially turned my nose up when he told me the starter would be scrambled eggs, as this is more of a breakfast dish where I come from....here at Aroma, they turn it into an absolute art form. I don´t want to tell you anymore about it. Just make sure you order it!
The seafood pasta was exquisite, with heavenly fresh seafood (juicy fat prawns!!) in a sauce that managed to achieve just the right balance of creamy alcohol taste and lightness.
Now that we´re coming into winter, their "Secret Garden" may not be an option, however, if it open when you visit, make sure you eat there. The ambiance is utter peace (no matter how busy it gets) and beauty.
The inside spaces are very friendly, as are the staff. Puddings are also yumyumyum!
