You will either love it or hate it here.
We were lucky and had a fantastic 7 days.
So this was the free CLC holiday that only cost £200 in airport taxes and registration fees provided we suffered another 4 hours of hard sell. I expected the worst and was pleasantly surprised. Flights from Birmingham on Monarch were nicely timed arriving Malaga late morning. We hired a car wanting to be independent and actually this was a good decision. The drive to Fuengirola took 30 mins and directions to reception were clear.
The Marina del Sol reception looked very uninviting with loads of luggage and miserable people waiting for access to their cells in that part of the complex. We tried to check-in but we're told we were in the wrong place and had to go to the Santa Cruz Suites reception 5 minutes drive away. So that's when things started to get better. Santa Cruz is situated at the top of the hill away from the duel carriageway and noisy bar/pool areas. The receptions was much more open and fresh with friendly people on duty. A porter offered to take our bags to apartment 838 just near reception and lead us up to the front door on the 1st floor. What was on offer was nothing less than 5* accommodation. The hall opened up to a large kitchen with everything you need even with milk, orange juice, bread and eggs already in the fridge. Next to the kitchen was the large living room with flat screen TV and quad sound system. At the end of the living room were the glass roller doors opening onto the balcony overlooking the swimming pools. Wow this was good!
However we were then shown the bedroom which was smaller and had 2 single beds. I was not happy about this and asked if there were other apartments with double beds.
Our porter then lead us through another door into the master bedroom which was the size of the kitchen and living room where we found the large king size bed and next to it an equally sizeable jacuzzi and showere and toilets and 2 sinks. Each bedroom also had TV's by the way. Leading off the bedroom was acces to the large balcony with dining table and comfortable chairs.
What an amazing place.
However we did look at other areas particularly down by the Marina del Sol area and it must be an absolute nightmare in the evening if you want to sleep before 12pm. The apartments looked tiny in comparison to what we had the whole feel to that area was more 1* than 5*
You will either love or hate this place.

We stayed here for ten days and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The staff in reception were very helpful, everything you needed in the appartment was there ( small house really ) inc a washing machine.
The one drawback for us was we were opposite a very, very noisy bar called Zackarys.Beware that although they did stop at 12.30am.

i was cold called about this holiday when i had seemingly filled in a survey that allowed me to have a cheap holiday! although i realised straight away it was one of these promotional holidays where we would have to sit through a presentation, we decided to go with an open mind and see what happened.
we paid £99 pounds for the week with another £380 for flights on top of that and another £80 for transfers. not too bad a deal we thought!
we arrived at 12 noon and did not get our key until 4pm so we sat in the bar and drank expensive cider out of a plastic cup until our room was ready. the porter was going to take our luggage down to our room but unfortunately after 40mins and no luggage my husband went to get it himself as we wanted to unpack.
we were given a room in the owners accomodation and not in the marketing accomodation so our 1 bedded apart was very nice with free safe, air con and a welcome food pack! we had a beautiful view over the sea and the castle and felt we got good value for money in that respects. we were just over the road from the pool so easy walking distance but unfortunately it was too noisy for us as we generally do not visit hotels with children or we visit outwith school holidays and although this was outwith school holidays there was a lot of children there. the sunbeds were cheap plastic and very uncomfortable too.
the restaurants in the area were lovely although expensive but we made the most of the self catering by cooking during the day and eating out at night.
by far the worst bit was the 5 hours of hell when they tried to sell us timeshare. i am by no means a person that is intimidated and neither is my husband but they tried every trick in the book to get us to buy. my husband is a sales exec. himself and has trained sellers for many years and he was shocked and stunned by the unethical and illegal selling techniques that were used.
they tried to say that we had good jobs so why couldnt we afford it? i said i would rather renovate my house at this point in time but their reply was " well you are on holiday now, so whats your problem?" they tried to say that our holiday money that we were spending was 'dead' money as we didnt get anything for it but when i pointed out that holiday money is an investment in yourself where you go and have no stress and make amazing memories, they just scoffed at me. i think a lot of what happens to you in the sales pitch depends on who your sales person is. we actually had a lovely guy and when we finally got him on his own we told him that his sales pitch was fantastic but him managers have just spoit it for him. they are so pushy and go in the huff when you say no! my husband was even accompanied to the toilet incase he escaped!
basically if you go there then sit and work out the sums in your head as you go along. by the time you pay £10000, then £499 per year, then £139 per extra weeks, then your flights, transfers, £179 if you decide to use other timeshare companies, £25 admin fee if you let you family use it instead of you and an extra £50 if you want all inclusive then it is no better than other deals on the internet. plus you are restricted to their properties which are miles out of resorts you probably wouldnt want to visit either.
they also said we could pay up the £10000 over 10 years with their loan company at a rate of 18.8% interest which when you add that onto what you are already paying, you are going to end up paying more than than your normal holidays!!!!
their final pitch was that we would get our money back in 19 years time when they sold the apartment. but with each apartment only making about £160,000 and there are 52 of you with a stake in the property, that did not add up to the £9000 that they promised we would get back!!!
also be aware that when they take you and show you the show apartment, this is the one apartment you get for one week. if you book other weeks with them you get the lower class accomodation that we stayed in which although was nice, was not worth all those thousands of pounds they wanted out of you.
all in all a horrible experience for a terrible product that just didnt make financial sense....and when we finally got away, he hinted that as we didnt sign up...we may be faced with the full bill when we checked out. this did not happen but we faced a couple of sleepless nights because of it.

it is a good cheap holiday but be prepared to suffer for it! if you want to ask me any other questions then plese feel free to contact me!

Room Tip: try to get owners accommodation as you get a safe, air con etc

i paid £75 for a weeks holiday here.i cannot see what there is to complain about as i have spent more on a night out.£200 for ryanair flights.
1 bedroom apartment with air conditioning, washing mc,dishwasher, welcome food pack ,dvd player,tv with about 7 uk channels
absolutely spotless and a free train to transfer around the complex.
lovely pool ,plenty sunbeds and shades
only problem is distance from resort to feungerola, but we like walking anyway.
yes,we had to attend a presentation that lasted 4 hours but this included full breakfast and being shown apartments.
tell the truth that you are not interested, they will go in the huff, but hey,so what.
well worth £75,great break away from work, cannot be too bad.

we arivee in the moring had two lovley people geet us at the airport to take our family of 5 to marina del sol , because we book them to take us , then we checked in and they said we would get a text when our apartment was ready i thought good service had something good to eat in sam's pantry right beside the respetion .. the people the the repetion seemed nice enough ... then we got our lovley apartment spotless to my eye ..... 2 days into our holiday the neighbours next door had a tower smoking pipe and was up till god knows what time and we phone the respetion and they said they would sort them out but they did'nt say anything unntill we got our consultant frank to tell them but the , the horse riding was good but the only thing is they only has 1 person the guide 1 horse so if there is more than 1 riding then someone else will need to take you e.g. family member and if you want to get a cheap shop head down as you are going to the beach and you will find a small shop just of a green path way , the botqie it exspensive if you are going as a large family and you need food e.t .....

Room Tip: rooms facing the veiw of the moutains and the castle :) 2 min walk to reseption

Spent a week in Marina del Rey. Apartment was very clean and we had a great view towards the sea. The weather was very warm and the air condition came in useful. The noise came from the 'Show Flat' which was below but the customer services dept called to check if everything was to our liking and I mentioned about the Marketing dept being rather loud when they were showing people round. The next day they were much quieter, so I think perhaps it was by chance or someone had a word in their ear. There was also an extended family(11 in all) took up residence beside the heated pool and they were inclined to be rather loud. Even on their last night they had a meal in the lcal El Tajo restaurant and everyone there heard every word.
Nevertheless, we had a very enjoyable week, even the rain and thunderstorms on the last two days did not spoil it. We are returning to Castillo del Rey in eight weeks and we can not wait until then. It is perhaps a hilly resort but it allows you to travel around the surrounding area.

Marina del Sol is a lovely facility overall, and a great spot to stay if you are looking for a central point on the Costa del Sol for day trips, and it has great amenities if you just want to hang out on the resort all day. You must be careful though of where they put you.
This was our first visit, and we were very disappointed to see that they put us in a unit two doors down from the main and very busy reception building, with the unit between us being used by the cleaners and staff. We could barely get into our unit because it was blocked by cars, taxi's and tour buses. We like to get up early and sit on our terrace and have coffee, but this wasn't possible because we were subjected to the constant chatter from the cleaners, and the smell of diesel from buses idling in front of our unit. Instead of being able to see the beautiful Mediterranean Sea we were looking into tour buses loading for the day.
On the third day we finally asked to be moved. The staff was very accommodating, especially Nora, and they were able to move us to a smaller, but much nicer and quieter unit. We enjoyed the rest of our vacation uninterrupted.
We happened to be talking to a few other families who visit regularly, and they seemed to think that this was a common occurrence, that first time visitors are put in the least desirable units, and only get moved if they complain, or become regular visitors. Since it was our first time, we can't say whether this is the case, but it's just something to consider.
We would recommend this resort, but with caution!

Room Tip: don't accept a unit that is too close to the main reception and the loading zone for tours
