“Lovely holiday”
Reviewed October 19, 2011

Returned from Club la Costa on 14 October after 11day stay. This was our second visit (stayed in March this year.) In March we had booked a studio but were allocated a 2 bedroom 'house' which was overlooking the pool by Zachary's bar and could be quite noisy on a night. On arrival this time we were allocated a studio apartment and I nearly had a heart attack, We had booked our apartment with 'Low Cost Holidays' and was not part of any time share 'free holiday' plan. After such a great apartment in March I was shocked to find the studio was up 56 steps even though we had requested a ground floor apartment. I'm not as young as I was and could hardly breathe by the time we got to the top. The thought of lugging
suitcases up those stairs was frightening and going up and down them to the pool etc. 2 or 3 times a day made me shudder. However, I rang reception from the apartment and by the time we got back there the manager had re-allocated us a ground floor apartment. It was lovely with a balcony looking towards the sea and it was great to sit there in the sunshine having breakfast. The staff are very pleasant and helpfull. We had hired a car as the though the complex has everything you could wish for without leaving there we do like to get out and about. The weather was fantastic so we went off to the beach or lazed by one of the many pools. The apartment was cleaned every other day and had every bit of equipment you could want even a DVD player and stereo. The only down side was the size of the kitchen - tiny. But it had a full size cooker, microwave, toaster in fact everything. But lack of space meant we had to put the toaster in a cupboard if using the cooker, Just a small thing. We have been visiting the Costa del Sol for many years and used to book our apartment privately through Owners Abroad or Holiday lettings. This has become quite costly and as we are both now retired, staying at Club la Costa means we get nicely furnished good accomodation without the high price and also we can stay for the duration of our choice. Privately owned accomodation is usually for 7 or 14 days and more often than not the preferred check in day is usually Saturday. Now we can stay for odd durations and take advantage of cheaper flights. We will definately be returning next year and hopefully at least twice.

I went with my family to club la costa for my birthday and it was definatly the best holiday I have ever had, the resort was beautiful and the pools were near where we was staying and they didn't ever get very busy. We had a long sales pitch but the man gave us loads of information on things to do and places to go which was good.
The apartment was gorgous and the cleaners came in everyday whilst we were out and cleaned up and left everything looking lovely.
It was such a good holiday we have booked to go again.

We have had two holidays at this resort and enjoyed both. Both times we experienced the sales pitch but finally decided that 'time share type holidays' are not for us.

The resort is set on the side of a mountain so I would not advise people with a walking disability to visit here and a car is essential if you wish to get out and about.

We found it just as cheap to eat at the resort compared with prices in Mijas.

Since we had a young child with us, we did feel safe and secure on the resort and there was not that constant worry about her safety as there is when you visit a hotel.

We do intend visiting a few of the other Club La Costa resorts but unsure whether we will return to this one.

I stayed in Marina del sol for a week in september with a group of friends and my partner. We had booked 3 one bedroom apartments but on arrival we were welcomed to 3 two bedroom apartments which was great as it meant no one had to kip on a sofa. The apartments were very nice and clean my only down fall I would say in regards to the apartments was that there was no air con which meant that the rooms were boiling. The facilities in the apartment such as the kitchen was good as it meant that we could prepare our own meals if we wanted to save some cash. There was a balcony, tv, dvd player, iron, washing mashine, not much more we could have asked for.

The resort itself was really nice with a number of swimming pools and restaurants, the restaurants service was good as well as the food. There is a train which takes you around the whole resort which was good in terms of seeing what it had to offer as well as getting around the resort as it was quite a large resort. The prices and variety at sams pantry were not great however it was convienient, I would advise that you go drive to a local supermarket. The gift shop in the reception area is good for excursions as we went on a few booked through there. Also at reception you can book to go to Marbella and a few other places via coach at affordable prices. The location wasnt that great with steep hills and not much to do in the immediate area, I would advise car hire, we took taxi's around which wasnt too bad.

The staff were friendly and always willing to help. I would recommend a vist here.

My partner and I won a trip to Marina del sol at the airport returning from Tenerife, when we called with regards to booking this we clearly said if the holiday involved a sales meeting we were not interested... we were assured we would not have to go to any such meeting.

On arrival however we were given a meeting time for the Tuesday of our stay. We called up to clarify that their own staff had told us we did not have to go to this and were told " you signed the paperwork - you have to go " no problem we said "we will go but it is a waste of your staffs time as we will not be buying" on the Tuesday we again gave the rep and two of his managers a chance to save their time by reiterating that we would not be buying.... this did little to put them off as three hours later they were still trying every trick to sell sell sell.

I had arranged to meet familly who have children up the coast for tea and by this time it was getting late and I was worried the children would be hungry..... my family had had to fed the children by the time we got there so no sit down family meal as a result - nice one club la costa. We eventually got away after 3 and a half long hours.

The meeting itself was not made any better by the rep who shall remain nameless but was very arrogant and spent quite a lot of time talking about himself and how well off his partners family are along with how certain people we passed on site were T**ts and how he could get away with swearing to customers as his bosses would not believe any customer who told them he had done so .... you know who you are if you are reading this... the people skills you boasted about need a lot of work mate.

None of this would truly have been too bad if we hadnt also been visited by cockroaches coming out of a unsealed / secure sewarge pipe in the bathroom to which receptions response was well you are in the country side ( neighbour who had mice also got this response initially) This was fuengirola near the beach and not the countryside or campo as the spanish refer to it. My sister lives in the true countryside and has no roaches in her house.

Infact it took my sister who has lived in Spain for 8 years taking a glass of live roaches ( swimming in water ) to reception before they moved us. most amusing part of the holiday - you should have seen the receptionsit face - my sister was a true hero!

We also experienced electric sockets hanging off walls and bathroom tiles covered in roaches that vistors long gone had squished - lovely.

I would say if you are happy to sit in a long meeting and put up with low budget accomodation and slightly lack cleaning standards then you would be okay .... if not beware.

If you are a member of club la costa the standards are much higher but they seem to put anyone on a sales trip in the very outdated accomadation and dangle the higher standard apartments in front of you like a carrot on a stick. However if we had not already decided before we got there that we would not have bought the combination of the apartment we initially had and the reps attitude would have brought us to this conclusion anyway.

This is not to say it was all bad, the staff at el rancho and also Jason Oliver the entertainer made us feel very welcome and gave us some very enjoyable evenings.

Just spent 7 nights at club la costa and found it to be very clean and well laid out. My only gripe is that you cannot get into your apartment till 16.00hrs and you have to vacate by 10.00am which makes for a long day hanging around. They did provide an apartment that you could book for 30mins to have a shower but we only found out about it by asking at reception it was not mentioned in any of the literature we read. The public bus service is excellent and cheap, however you need to walk down the side of a very busy dual carriage way to get to the bus stop from the resort, this may be a bit daunting if you have young children. There is no air con and all you have is a ceiling fan which is not much good in 35 degrees, the bedroom was very hot. Overall we had a good holiday in this resort and would not rule out going back again.

Room Tip: Due to lack of air con best if the room faces away from the sun during the day this may help to keep...

Club la Costa is a time share resort about 5 Kilometers from Fuengirola. We stayed with friends in a top notch (and on top of the mountain ) , apartment, Malibu Mansions.
The quality of the apartment was very high, the accomodation spotless, the pool beautiful.

The resort itself is tidyly kept with lovely gardens , a number of pools and two convenience stores. One is very small but sells nice fresh bread/salads, the other is slightly larger and better stocked.
Both are fairly expensive by local standards.. There are several expensive Tex-Mex style restaurants which we were uninspired by. A couple of the pool side bars sell snacks of good quality.

Fuengirola centre is about 10 minutes away by taxi and fares range from 10/15 euros depending on the time of day. Taxis are relatively expensive with an airport transfer for example (20 mins) at £60.

A little "train" grinds slowly round the complex every 30/60 mins.

The down-side of this resort is the location. To get around you need a hire car. There is nothing of a neighbourhood for an evening stroll and the location is extremely steep and not very well lit at night.

Our friends were obliged to go to a time - share presentation which waas described as a few minutes. It was five and a half hours long, I think they regretted it.

Despite being advised not to (at the presentation) we took a daytrip out to Marbella, a lovely town. We ate out every night in Mijas-Costa or Fuengirola.

To find a nice restaurant in Fuengirola, take a taxi to Plaza Constitution and walk downhill past the central Church towards the sea-front. There is a series of squares and cross-roads with tapas bars and restaurants to suit all pockets. In particular on Fish Street there are a number of restauarants with "fixed price" menus from as little as six euros. The food and service standards are high throughout.

Room Tip: Stay in Fuengirola or Mijas Costa.
