We have been members of CLC for 10 years and have just returned from two fabulous weeks (19 Jan - 2 Feb) in a 2 bedroom apartment at Santa Cruz Suites, California Beach Resort. We had a nice welcome at reception and check-in was very smooth as usual. Our apartment was close to reception but the porters carried our bags for us. The apartment was lovely and well equipped. We had a west facing balcony and a large north facing terrace (with jacuzzi).
Our holiday tends to always be in January because we don't like the weather too hot and we enjoy relaxing in the peace and quiet of the resort. We weren't let down - the first week the weather was a bit mixed but the second week was glorious and temps reached 24 degrees.
We ate at Safari restaurant a couple of times and the food and service were excellent; but also found a great little restaurant called Silks, up the hill and into the urbanisation of El Faro; this was run by an English couple and the menu was varied with something for everyone. We also enjoyed takeaway pizza from Safari. We spent most evenings at Sunset Bar where we thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment especially the Movie Night with Michelle Jane; the black jack night with Gary from Team Marina, and of course Jason Oliver and Nuria Lima. The guests were not many in number but we all had a great time.
This is our eighth visit to California Beach, our favourite resort, but we didn't hire a car this time, we either walked (to Fuengirola and La Cala) or caught the local bus to Riviera del Sol, Marbella (2.90 Euros) and La Cala (1.50 Euros). When we arrived at the airport we used the train to Fuengirola (2.60 Euros each) and then taxi to CLC (12 Euros).
A restaurant worth a visit is La Plaza (Italian) at Riviera del Sol where the food is awesome and they usually have live entertainment which is excellent. Another place worth a visit is Legends Bar in La Cala where you'll see some great shows - we've seen a Rod Stewart tribute act there and this time we were lucky to catch The Rat Pack - superb! Legends is run by Paul and Andrea and they are fabulous hosts. A good wee bar in La Cala for a nice reasonably priced meal is Harvey's Toucan Bar run by Stuart and Jenny.
We had a good walk in to Fuengirola to the market (Tuesday) and the Zoo (right in the centre of town but definitely worth a visit); a great place for a snack is Cafe Rody where you can have churros y chocolat for a couple of Euros and they are mouthwatering. We also managed a visit to the Castillo Sohail this time and the views from there were breathtaking, there isn't much to actually see in the castle but entry is only 3 Euros but there is lots to see from the battlements.
For the first time we used the sauna in the San Diego Suites gym and this was really nice; I also booked a neck, shoulder & back massage which I really enjoyed and was amazed at the price for half hour session of 20 Euros! Thank you Solange!
All in all another fabulous holiday at Club la Costa, staff were very attentive and cleanliness was to a very high standard; we look forward to our next trip in 2014!
