I recently stayed at Jockey Villas which is a relatively new development with La Cala De Mijas and Fuenfirola as its most local main towns. The development is in sight of the Hippodromo (Race course) which has racing in the winter/spring and also in the summer. Whilst we there the summer racing was on which starts at 11pm - a great night out. They have also just opened a new karting racing circuit next to the Hippodromo which is great fun too.
You do need a car to stay here and make the most of the time here as there is only one beach and a few restaurants in neighbouring El Faro in a 20-25 minute walking distance.
The actual properties are 2 or 3 bedrooms and have private gardens. The properties are well built and have lovely gardens with fantastic views of the hills/mountains and coast. The pools are very clean and as the development is residential, you have the feel of a real friendly Spanish community.
Within 15 mins drive you have half a dozen golf courses, shopping centres, Cinema (showing English films), beaches, restaurants, bars, horse riding, horse racing (seasonal), go karting and more. A wonderful area to explore also with walking, biking and horse riding across national parkland literally a stones throw away.
The development has had some recent adjustments to be more disabled access friendly with ramps to all communical areas/pools. Not all houses have disabled access though. You would need to ask in advance.
If you want somewhere to walk to beaches, restaurants, pubs/bars/nightclubs - this isnt the place for you i'm afraid. Its a car ride (rental or taxi).
We enjoyed our time here and if you are looking for a relaxing break with access to anything between Malaga to Marbella or inland to Ronda, this is the ideal base.
