Description: El Mirlo Blanco is located in a delightful setting in a traditional whitewashed building typical of the Malaga region in the centre of Mijas. The restaurant can seat 60 diners in two dining rooms that feature wonderful open fireplaces, although in the warmer months diners can eat on the terrace with its splendid views over the town and the nearby mountains. The restaurant offers traditional Basque cooking using the finest seasonal ingredients. Its extensive menu changes with the seasons with specialities that include beef stew, baby squid or excellent cod, among many others. There is also a long list of wines and spirits. El Mirlo Blanco is a great choice at any time of year, whether you choose to sit by the fire on cold days or on its wonderful terrace in summer.

“Basque cooking with a real fire in Winter”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

I have eaten here 11 times in the last 14 years and have always enjoyed the real log fire in winter, and sitting out on the terrace overlooking the Plaza de la Constitución in summer. On a Friday evening in March there were 4 tables occupied and 7 vacant, but the fire and conversation still produced a lively atmosphere. The welcome from the old lady and the service in this family run Basque restaurant made us feel at home. Our party chose Kokotxas Bacalao (Cod cheeks) 23€, Txangurro (spider crab) 22€, Lenguado Mirlo Blanco (Sole) 24€, and Almejas Cantabrico (clams) 20€ and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. A bottle of Montespejo from the Sierras de Málaga 17€ was a good accompaniment, The highlight was the Grand Marnier soufflé. We were advised that two portions at 9€ each was enough for four people. It was flambed at the table and was delicious. Altogether a great evening.

“Enjoyable, but Pricey”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is a fine restaurant, probably the best in the area, and that is probably why it is a touch on the pricey side. Our dinner last night came to $117 US for 2: 1 soup, 2 entrees, 1/2 bottle of wine, 1/2 liter of sparkling water, 2 deserts, and 2 espressos. Everything was tasty, but my wife was not as thrilled with the garlic chicken as previous posters were. Service was pleasant and everything you could ask for, as was the atmosphere. We dined inside, one table away from the fireplace, which we appreciated on a February evening. It was a Sunday, and only 3 other tables were occupied, so crowds don't seem a problem at this time of year.

“Special occasions and treats!”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

This restaurant is always busy! We have stayed in Mijas late in the year and early, and this place is always busy. The locals use it, which is a good sign, and the meals are huge! The puddings, if you can fit them in, are to die for! In particuar the Flambe pudding is delicious, and the dish you are given is enough for about 6! We still polished it off, but it took us an hour! We were never rushed here, always made to feel welcome, and the elderly lady who works there is quite a character! We find it easier to point at what we want on the menu as she is quite hard of hearing I believe and her English is quite sparse - but still better than our Spanish I hasten to add!!!! We took our two sons here, one of whom is a Chef, and they were delighted with the food! Well worth a visit, the ambience is very Spanish too which we love!
