“Helpful tour of the only Portuguese owned Port Cellars”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

We took the 5€ tour and were treated to a concise history of the Ferreira company, a helpful explanation of the different types of Port, a walk around the cellars and two generous glasses of Port to taste at the end. We didn't buy Port in the cellars as we had already seen the prices in the local shops, which were either the same or less. The cellars are built into the side of a hill, so be prepared for a fairly steep climb from start to finish, with a couple of stops along the way.

“Interesting cellar tour and good port”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

Vila Nova de Gaia – port tasting and tours in Ferreira cellars. The young tour guide had somewhat of a stiff delivery in English including jokes but interesting tour through the port ageing and bottling facilities. Highlights was the walk up one of the old streets which is now internal within the Ferreira cellar building. The standard tour includes tasting of 2 ports or other packages may include a larger number of ports to taste. Our neighbors at the table had 6-7 ports to taste and their last and best reserve port was definitely worth it. The kids in our group liked the cellar, big vats and barrel making equipment on display but were a bit bored at the port tasting when they sat watching on only! The cellars provide a cool break from hot weather in the mid-day.

“Interesting and good port”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

This may be a bit touristy, but they provide a great deal of good information about the port industry. You do have to make a reservation to attend a tour. We made ours the morning of and had no problems. There is a "supreme" tasting option that gives you some more select ports to try. We didn't know about this, so missed out. I would ask in the future and do that. The cellars are beautiful and the history grand. The waiting area is a mini-museum.

“Disapointment”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

It's a big factory! Nothing personal or special. Yes, the guide speaks well and is knowledgeable, yes the port wines taste ok. But the atmosphere is very blah. Nobody to explain anything when we tasted the port wines at the end. No spark! Go to Churchill's instead, this was worth our time and money!!

“Used to be good”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Took this tour a couple of years ago, and it was great. Took it again this last trip, and it was significantly shorter and less informative. Not sure if they are doing construction, but we certainly did not see all the areas we had seen previously. Our tour guide also seemed less knowledgeable or just didn't want to share much information. Sounded like she was reciting from a memorized script. Tasting was okay but rushed - they close completely for lunch.
