“Great hotel in Douro Valley”
Reviewed October 18, 2013 via mobile

This property is outstanding.
Clean, well run and absolutely beautiful.
This is one of the finest boutique hotels we have visited and reflects the vision of the owned, Ursula.
We were there for two nights in October and it could not have been better.
Sunday dinner was traditional roasted goat with great local wine.
Service impeccable and my wife and I would highly recommend

We booked 2 nights at case do visconde in the middle of a 11 day honeymoon in Portugal. After driving along the Douro river on our way to the hotel, we decided that if the hotel could accommodate us, we would stay an extra night. We are so glad we did. Our room was a 2 story suite with two patios, a large bathroom, and a large, comfortable king size bed. The jug of port that welcomed us was delicious. The view and the grounds were spectacular.

We decided to eat at the hotel the first night as I was not feeling very well. Ursula and Adelaide took care of me, making sure that I had mild food and tea. My husband's food smelled (and was!) delicious. Because the roads are dark, windy, and often without barriers, we opted to eat dinner at the hotel the next two nights as well. We were not disappointed by the 3 course meals with accompanying wine.

Although casa do visconde does not have direct river views, the countryside is stunning. It's location also makes a great launch point for a number of the qunitas in the valley. Would recommend this spot to anyone!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the new two-level suites at the bottom of the property

The Casa do Visconde is a beautiful hotel/spa/B&B in an absolutely stunning part of Portugal. The views from the casa and in the surrounding areas are not to be missed.

As everyone has noted the rooms are large and comfortable, the breakfasts plentiful and delicious and the dinners (which you really must try) beautifully prepared regional cuisine.

Ursula and Adelaide make a great pair and make everyone feel comfortable and at home.

There is one problem with Casa do Visconde and, for us, it’s a big one. Our room, a deluxe double, was in a building separate from the main house and required crossing much of the extensive property. There were many uneven poorly lighted stone stairs along the way with no hand rails. This caused us more than a few problems – particularly after a rain left puddles and slippery steps.

This place is so beautiful and the hosts so warm and welcoming that we would stay here again but would get a room in the main building to avoid all the unsafe steps.

Room Tip: Get a room in the main house to avoid treacherous stone stairs.

We really wanted to stay 2 nights but could not get the second night. The room, views and food was spectacular. Ursula and Adelaide couldn't have been nicer. We were lucky to have 1 sunny day when we arrived. We were concerned about the drive back to Pinhao so we stayed and relaxed. It would be hard to visit the wineries in the area because the roads are very steep and dangerous. Upon checking out of Chanceleiros the green grocer delivery man pointed out to us that our rental car had sustained damage in the hotel parking lot (in front). Lost of the parking spaces were taken by the winery employees vehicles and probably one of them hit our rental car and did not leave any message to accept responsibility.. This put a damper on our 24 hours at Chanceleioros. I would not park in from of the hotel again. They have a few spaces in the back of the hotel away from the main car park. Mastercard has told me that I have insurance through them but it may take 6 months to sort it out.

Room Tip: Do not use your GPS or Google Maps printed directions. Ursula will send you the directions from Port...

This review is long overdue but even though months have passed since our return home from our wonderful stay at the Casa, our memories have not faded. You cannot possibly forget the breathtaking view over the Douro or the feeling of peace as you walk the beautiful gardens of the grounds. Truly inspiring. Only the gracious hospitality of Ursula, Adelaide and all the lovely ladies of the Casa can top the visual delight and comfort of this perfectly charming hotel. We've been fortunate enough to travel to many spectacular places in the world, but this place touched my heart and I found myself feeling very blessed for being able to have 5 incredible days here. The delicious dinners, the adorable Molly & Cookie, the thoughtful decor, the attention to detail, the view, the grounds and the wonderful location in the heart of one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world have made this a holiday we will always cherish. Thank-you Ursula & Adelaide for your warmth and hospitality and for sharing your little slice of paradise with us. Casa do Visconde de Chanceleiros is a very special place.

From the moment we arrived we knew this was going to be special. Ursula, Adelaide and the rest of the staff are so helpful and welcoming. The views from the terrace over the vine-clad hills are wonderful. The pool would befit any film star's mansion. Not to mention the tennis court, jacuzzi, sauna ( in a 100 year old port wine barrel). This is a relaxed, informal place to stay, more like a house with friends than a hotel. Dinner is a real experience, matched with excellent local wines that change every night, enthusiastically described by Ursula. Long may this hotel stay unchanged. We will definitely be back, it's just shot to the top of our best 10 places to stay anywhere.

Room Tip: The superior rooms are really suites, tastefully decorated. So romantic, lots of candlelight. The be...

We stayed 4 nights in this little piece of paradise in the Douro valley. It is located jut outside of Pinheo, our navi actually found it without a problem. It was gorgeous. Our room was large, spacious and included a carafe of ruby port to sip at our leisure after long hot days. Ursula, Adalaine and the rest of the team worked very hard to make our stay perfect, from the the cleanliness of the room to the excellent breakfasts and dinners. The gardens are to be enjoyed, the pool and lighting at night makes for a very romantic evening. No wonder it is the top rated place to stay. Not disappointed by other trip advisor reviews!

Room Tip: we upgraded the room to superior which was worth it, kingsize bed, sitting area, large bathroom with...
