I seriously thought I was in Portugal heaven!

We arrived and were welcomed by an incredible view over the pool and Douro Valley vineyards! Breath taking!

The dinner and breakfast were amazing.
The hosts were lovely and with great English.
The pool was refreshing.

It was not cheap, but true quality never is. I will definitely be back!
Gosh, I think I would plan a trip all the way from New Zealand again just to stay in this sanctuary :-)

Enjoy!

This isn't the cheapest of places to stay, but it's worth every penny. The accommodation is outstanding, and the staff are friendly and helpful - nothing too much trouble. We were on motorbikes, and were allowed to park them in their private garage overnight.

We had evening meals here each night over our 4 night stay, and were not disappointed with one meal. It's like being at a friend's house, inasmuch as the meal is the meal - you don't get a menu to choose from. It's good, local food, excellently cooked, and served with local wines, including white port, which is fab!

There's all the facilities you could want, with fantastic views over the Douro Valley, so it's a great location.

Highly recommended.

We stayed for four nights and this superb place is the only one in our wide ranging exploration of Europe that we would break our unwritten rule of not visiting the same place twice. Other reviews cover this place accurately so I will dwell on the food! As veggies we have trouble eating well in many countries but the chefs here managed to produce four delightful and imaginative local four course dinners. The lady who bakes the pastries and puddings is a genius. Her chocolate cake is simply divine and worth driving the mountain roads for on it's own. The reviewer who mentioned that the food is expensive is just plain wrong or deluded! For 35 euros you receive four courses of well cooked and well presented food, plus coffee, red wine, white wine and port. Amazing place!

This casa is well located within the Douro Valley. From here, you will get the most magnificent views. The rooms are nice and spacious. The pool, jacuzzi, gamesroom, everything is as what you would expect from such a place. Breakfast and diners are also recommended. We had 2 excellent days here and hope to return here some day. Special note on Adelaide, she was so warm, welcoming and helpful, the best host you can wish for.

We spent five nights most agreeably with Ursula and her team. The atmosphere created feels much more like being a guest in someone's house than a B&B/hotel, as there is a relaxed and thoughtful feel to the place indicative of Ursula and her staff's approach.

Rooms are arranged mostly in the gardens and are spacious and promote a feeling of calm. Air-con has just been installed this year, and this was a very welcome feature as the temperatures were especially high when we visited.

There are no notices, neither in rooms nor in the house nor elsewhere on what you should or should not do, and there are honesty bars in both the main house and in the pool area. A welcome change.

We very much enjoyed breakfasts (self serve, with eggs to order) and dinners (set menu/no choice - aperitif and amuse bouche; three courses with two wines and water; coffee etc and digestif). Dinners felt particularly special served on the terrace as the sun set, and could be 'en famille' depending on the numbers dining. The Portuguese ladies in the kitchen produced some wonderful courses using local ingredients and herbs from the lovely gardens. We felt that there was no need to go elsewhere for dinner as the quality of the food was so good, and it was at a very keen price.

Somewhere to return to.
