Our stay at CS Vintage was relaxing, with a great view over the Douro River and terraced vineyards. An offering of port at check-in was a nice touch. Food was very good, although I ate and drank way too much with the lesser priced menu. Our king sized bed was the most comfortable of our two week vacation. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to take a boat trip on the Douro. If you can only spend one night at CS Vintage, I'd recommend either arriving early or leaving late to take advantage of this excursion.

Unique location over the Douro river, in Pinhão, splendid views over the vineyards all around. I didn’t know it under Taylor’s management, but nowadays, I consider it a charming, well managed and very interesting place. Lovely garden, although the huge number of palm trees seem out placed. Nice outside pool for the summer months.
It is adjacent to railroad and station, which for some who like trains (like me) is an advantage, but can be a problem if you the noise can bother you. The hotel is comfortable but doesn’t have the acoustic insulation of today’s 5 star hotels …
I liked the lunch I had there, the traditional veal steak, in the leafy outdoor courtyard. It was a beautiful mid-September day, and next day breakfast was also taken in the same place. Delicious food and excellent service.
There are possibilities of wine tasting and Douro trips, and lots of bottles to buy, both wine and olive oil. The best place to stay in the area.

The place is fabulous, however the hotel does not grant vouchers you have paid for and makes you pay twice. Furthermore follow up is terrible, as all mails sent to them nobody bother to reply. Very bad customer service!

We stayed here after taking the train trip from Porto to Pinhao. Our room was as promised, with a private courtyard out e front overlooking the Douro river and lovely hotel gardens. Our room was comfortable and luxurious. The hotel facilities are beautiful with a pool overlooking the river. we enjoyed the buffet breakfast and had a dinner in a leafy outdoor courtyard. Food and service were excellent, with staff always friendly and attentive. The hotel can arrange port wine tasting tours for you, and river cruises. One of our nicest hotel stays ever!

This hotel is set between the Douro river and the railway line. Our party arrived by bus and we had to carry our baggage across the line and down some stairs before at last being able to hand it over to hotel staff. Luckily there aren't many trains a day on this line. If we had come by car, we could have parked more handily, to be fair. The room was nice, with a balcony over the river, but the lighting was truly dim, to the point of being a fault. Perhaps it was better before the new low energy light bulbs came in, now one can't read in bed. The only well lit place was the bathroom! The setting is lovely, and this hotel is probably the only option in Pinhao, otherwise one would not really recommend it. I rather agree with barbararitchie's assessment.

Vintage House Hotel in Pinhao is a quite interesting place! It WAS, obviously, once a "magical" place when it was run by Taylor's (the port wine people), but now under CS management, is beginning to become ordinary. Having been created from an old winery, the architecture and decor aims at "English-country house Quinta" style, the public rooms aiming at elegance with a plethora of faux-Chippendale furniture, reproduction "great paintings" ( faux-Pompeo Batoni, faux-John singer Sergeant, faux-Lely, faux-Stubbs, faux-Monet, etc. etc.). There is an interesting door (to be found up a faux-Victorian spiral staircase in a lounge) leading directly to the railroad track and the 19th c. tiled Pinhao Train Station opposite. Rooms (if slightly dated) are pleasant and comfortable with those on the ground floor having patios, and those on the upper floors having balconies; all having splendid views of the river, bridge, and vinyard terraces opposite. The once-"magical" gardens are beginning to take on a slightly "uncared-for/down-at-the-heel" look as do also the tennis court and pool areas. The hotel can provide a super 90-minute river trip up/down the Douro in replica "barcos rabellos" (traditional boats which were used to transport pipes of port down to the wine lodges at Vila Nova de Gaia) while enjoying a picnic lunch on board.

But it is the food/drink and service which makes the CS Vintage House verge on the ordinary. The dinner I was served in the evening was merely that fairly tasteless "good-ordinary" Portuguese cuisine one finds all over the country (although the fruit served up at the breakfast buffet the morning I ate it was really delicious!!) and "nothing to write home about", as it were, but at prices promising something rather more special and better than it was.

This is exactly the sort of hotel which SHOULD be one of those "magical", special, memorable places at which one wishes to remain forever. It probably once WAS just this, but now, sadly, no longer is!!!!!

Room Tip: ALL rooms have heavenly views of the river and vinyard terrain, but at night, you need to whisper on...

The hotel is well appointed with attractive gardens, with swimming pool, located on the bank of the Douro. Dining is available in the restaurant or on the terrace.
The rooms are spacious.
There is a adequate car parking in the grounds of the hotel.
Bar drinks are a little pricey.
