Grande Hotel da Curia Golf & Spa
Ranked #2 of 3 Hotels in Curia

We stayed at this hotel as part of an 8 day fly and drive holiday in Portugal. This hotel was part of the package the travel agency arranged and not a personal choice. After staying there one night, it certainly wouldn't be my personal choice in any event.
The hotel has a grand name and probably a grand past, but it is run down and doesn't earn the 3 star rating it has. The room and bathroom were spacious, but that's about all that could be said for it. Furniture was old. TV was old. Hallways were dark and had carpet full of stains.
Since Curia isn't exactly bustling with life we decided to have dinner at the hotel. The restaurant could offer all of two choices for main course (neither of them really very good).
When we got up in the morning and went for breakfast at 7:45 we were given to understand (no English-speaking staff on hand) that this was too early and brealfast would be ready at 8:00. We went for a half hour walk, but at 8:15 there was still only a very limited breakfast available.
Service was poor. The hotel is understaffed.
Wouldn't recommend this to anybody else.

The hotel has a lot of potential, but unfortunately is worn out, dirty and understaffed. The 'Spa' is practically non-existant and overpriced. With the variety and, in most cases, quality of hotel offer in Portugal this one is definitely a no-go!!

if you want to stay in a historic hotel and really want to experience the historic times (here the golden years 1920ies) you better spend 20€ more per night and go to the Palace Hotel (see my review there).

This place is in some (most!) parts quite worn and old (hallways dirty carpets, linoleum) - in other they tried to invest (e.g. 2 indoor pools, Sauna, jacuzzi (out of order), Turkish bath, Gym but never finalised or just kept in bad conditions (dirty floor, unfinished rooms etc.)

The rooms are spacious but the the bed and furniture is old fashioned (not from 1920 but maybe newer cheap replicas), small tube TVs from 1995 and no internet in room (neither Wifi nor LAN cable) makes it really boring to stay in the room.

Wifi is ONLY in the lobby area, not even in the breakfast room - oh yes: breakfast room is modern 50ies style room (seems that they replaced the old ballroom with that new addition?) - breakfast was expected: ham, cheese, Muesli, Jam and very poor coffee - espresso you need to pay extra (1€ compared to 0,6€ in bars nearby much better choice)

BTW: we were only 10 guests in early June 2013 - quiet times for Curia.....

Room Tip: asl for quiet room facing the park

My husband and I spent 3 days at this marvellous hotel, It used to be glamorous and it still is. It's perceptivel the society whom used it to spa treatment. Enourmous well recuperated sallons and dinning rooms as well as dance balls ... The rooms are huge a little bit cold due to the enormous area to heat and quite simple, no big fuss. A kind of hospital individual rooms. I felt myself in an Agatha Christie book as for Poirot going on diet and treatment. Though care was taken to modernize de structure much more needs to be done anf I felt sorry for all the troubles they are going through. Beautiful gardens outside and amazing library to relax and have a cuo of tea. Lovely olg ascensour and stairs. Nice swimm im the warm covered pool. The renewewd part not well acomplished. It's worth a visit, don't miss it. Staff very helpfull

Room Tip: try to stay in the middle of the building, on the left side there is no view, just rocks

What a great potential this Hotel has, but it stopped in time for good and bad reasons. The good are the atmosphere from early 20th century and the bad, the rooms, the facilities in general. The Restaurant re-newed but too bad to be true, we could not complain just laught.

I stayed before September 2010 but I had to write this review as my experience was really nice. Bedrooms are big and well-cleaned. I always had breakfast in bed, and it was delicious and with all I really enjoy eating while in vacation.
The spa area is really nice and you can do several treatments there. Quite nice indeed!
It's located next a natural small park which deserves a stroll.
Around the hotel you'll have several options to have a nice and traditional meal like Leitão à Bairrada which is a piglet cooked in a special way. You can walk or try something a bit further by car which is the nicest way of discovering the region.

It is a fantastic place for rest and relaxation, whether for couples or for entire families.
The hotel is housed in a thermal area, next to a fantastic park, 20 km from the city of "coimbra" and 30 km of beaches.
It is located in the middle "Bairrada", an area known for its Portuguese gastronomic specialty, the "Leitão da Bairrada and the fabulous wines.
The hotel is set on a 19th century building.
The experience, especially in the library and in restaurants, relive the days when the hotel was built, a sort of time travel.
It is clear that the building being so old, and although some parts have been rebuilt and improved, much remains to be done, but unfortunately does not seem like the owners are very interested in it, which is a shame.
However the improvements made, stands out as a fantastic outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a jacuzzi, and a small but complete SPA.
As for the rooms they are spacious and comfortable, with huge bathrooms.
The rooms are cleaned usually involves, however, depending on the cleaning team, work can be better or worse, and when the work is done by the youngest woman, in my case, there was always reason to complain, for example, not change sheets, do not aspire to, not replace soap and shower gel, and even forget to replace the toilet paper. Still, the reception has always solved the problem in less than five minutes.
It indeed is the greatest failure of hotel, very few employees for a hotel of this size.
There will be a maximum of four employees to ensure the operation of services, it is possible to find the same person work at breakfast at 7 am and the bar at 23:00
The crisis can not justify this deplorable atitutde.
The breakfast itś greatl and higher than expected. The buffet is varied and quality products, however, as there are employees who reach the delay happens in the replacement of goods where the hotel is a little fuller.
As for the SPA, the prices on massages and treatments seem to me high, comparing them with hotels of higher quality, but access to some activities such as sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room is free, yet I think the managemant should be more vigilant to prevent children's access to these spaces because during my stay the jacuzzi was in maintenance / disinfection 3 full days due to the existence of child poop in the water.
Even with these drawbacks, the price / quality ratio is quite sound and so I recommend this hotel and think back.
I hope that the group "belver hotels" review both the quantity and quality of some employees so that in future the number of customer complaints decrease.
