“Expensive, Average service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2012 via mobile

Went during restaurant week. Was staying at the Marriott so it was right there. Steak was dry and the vegetable was tough and the potatoes were cold. Not at all what we expected for the price $30. Following nights went to other restaurants on Granby St just a short walk from the hotel and got much better meals for the price. I would not recommend this place unless you had no other option.

“Walk up Granby St and go elsewhere!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2012

Why would you go to a chain restaurant in downtown Norfolk? There are a lot of local places within walking distance of this place that are far better. If you're looking for a generic American chain experience, then I guess this works. If you want something nice, go someplace else.

I went with a group of about 8 people for restaurant week. We all did the standard / set menu (part of restaurant week). The main course was good, but they clearly hadn't put much thought in to it. Every single option had the same sides - "seasonal vegetables" (which were not in season) & mashed potatoes. The desserts were clearly pre-made somewhere else and "fresh" from the freezer. Restaurant was generally dingy. Service was friendly, but slow and cheesy (think pieces of flare and annoying bubbly/fake attitude). The bar was empty, but gross - the table top was sticky and no one seemed to be cleaning.

If you're staying at the hotel, walk a few blocks up Granby St. There are at least 5 alternatives that are worth the trip.

“Yummo!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2012

I visited Shula's with a co-worker and was amazed. The waitstaff was prompt and courteous. The food was exactly what I expected - delicious! The steak, specifically fillet, cannot be missed. I enjoyed my dinner so much I ordered the same thing again the next night through room service. I plan on visiting Shula's again on my next visit to Norfolk.

“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012 via mobile

From a true lover of a good steak, Shula's has by far i awy the best steaks I have found in Hampton Roads region. Meat is aged to perfection and salads and other sides are outstanding as well. Casual dress is fine. Shula' has an upscale sports bar feel. Don't hesitate because it is located in hotel this is a hidden gem.

“Good food and service, but out of hamburgers?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2012

We dined here in a large group for a late lunch. Place was nearly empty at about 1 PM. Greeted by the manager and seated in a nice private area. Service was prompt but as we looked at our menus, we were informed that they were "out of hambuger", so no burgers were available. This precluded about half of our greoup from getting the entree they wanted. I've never seen that before at a steakhouse. The food they did have, however, was delicious. She crab soup, crab cakes. I had a filet oscar with crab meat and a delicous sauce. Every one like their entree, but the crab cakes tasted a little dated. All salads were delicous. Did not have dessert but they sounded good. I will come back to Shulas but will call to make sure they are not missing one-third of their menu next time.
