We enjoyed the gardens and took advantage of their tour bus. It is a little more wild than the Longwood Gardens in PA but still very beautiful.

The NBG is staffed by dedicated employees and volunteers who are passionate about plants and nature. We have a family membership so that we can go there anytime without having to decide to incur the admission fee. We don't mind the cost because the gardens cost money to maintain and we believe it is a treasure in our community.

Your admission includes free tram access, or you can walk. The whole garden is very accessible regardless of your physical condition. I have never seen it overly crowded; even at peak times one still can find a sense of quiet and solitary beauty.

There are different kinds of "gardens": a rose garden, a Japanese garden, sculpture gardens, a wildflower meadow, a butterfly garden, a Virginia grove of trees, to name a few, and a beautiful lake in the middle. People have weddings there because it is so pretty.

The Garden also has special events year-round. There is a wonderful gift shop with a varied selection of reasonably-priced items. It is great for couples, friends, or families with children of all ages. There are special exhibit areas geared to children.

Love the gardens! Every family member that visits us is taken here. We have a membership and visit often. Great place year round. They always have something special to see and do.

This is awesome, because you can picnic and talk a very nice walk through some amazing scenery. If you want you can also go on the airport hill and listen to the Air Traffic Controllers at the airport. With me being one in this military I thought this was the best part!
