I have been coming to this zoo for a long time, but my last visit was awesome. The newer Asian exhibit is done really well. The African exhibit was redone a few years back and is still really interesting. There are lots of animals and many unique. Geographically small, this zoo packs a lot in without feeling cramped. The train ride is cute, prices are reasonable and it's very pretty. My kids loved this day trip!

It took us about 2 1/2 hrs to see mostly everything so it made for nice way to spend the afternoon. We are lunch in their little cafe in Africa too. The animals were all pretty active when we were there. Some are sleeping, some were swimming or sunbathing. Pricing is super affordable too. Adults are 11.00 and kids under two are free...not sure how much kids are. Prices in the gift shop aren't horrible either. The day we went there were scattered showers and even tho 9/10 of the exhibits are outside there are shelters all over which allow you to view the animals and stay dry at the same time.

We visited on a very hot afternoon. It only costed us $22.00 for 2 adults, a 14 year old, and a 1 year old. Very stroller friendly. Couldn't ride the train because it wasn't working. Drinks were expensive and the zoo is quite small but you can easily kill 2 hours there. Some animals were difficult to see because they were hiding from the heat. Great fountain kids can play in near the exit. Overall great value! Wear comfy shoes and go early.

I was very happy when we visited the zoo on aWednesday. It was not too busy. The best part was the train rides and the fountains that the children can play in. The gift shop does not sell any swim suits so I just had my child play on the fountain in his regular clothes. Good thing we had towels in our car.

Our 15 year old daughter is an animal lover. We spend alot of time at zoos. This zoo is not real large, but very reasonably priced and the animals were very well cared for. There were even a couple of animals we had never seen or even heard of. We really enjoyed our time at Virginia Zoo.
