As good as the NY Met! and one tenth the crowd. Surprising and well laid out....It's easy to walk around this museum...

“Beautiful collection and building, but not great for families with small childrren”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2014

We are very excited that the collection at the Chrysler Museum is finally available again! The building has had some important improvements, but it appears basically the same to anyone who visited it before the renovation. It is now more accessible to visitors in wheelchairs and with strollers, the cases for the artwork are upgraded and more standardized, and the overall experience is more luxurious. The outside gardens are beautiful, and the setting by the Hague is gorgeous. The giant "Rubber Duck" is set to grace those waters from May 17 to May 26, 2014!

On the other hand, they did not create any new spaces for families with young children. There is no real space for children to experience art first-hand if they are visiting with their families - there are rooms available for field trips, of course. We were very disappointed that there was no consideration given to the next generation of art patrons, our children.

We recommend this museum as a must-see attraction for families with children older than 5, and of course to anyone without children. It's fantastic. But families with small children should plan on exploring the outside gardens after about 30 minutes in the galleries, as there just isn't anything for them inside.

“Art Gem by the sea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2014

The newly expanded and reopened Chrysler Museum of Art should be on everyone visiting the Williamsburg to Virginia Beach area, MUST SEE list! The museum reopened this weekend May 10, 2014 and has more space to showcase and exhibit its remarkable collection. Walter Chrysler, Jr., had he lived longer, would have been thrilled with the improvements. This museum rivals anything in nearby D.C. as an art lover's attraction.

“FASCINATING Glass Studio”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2014

On a cold-snap day in March, my older children and I were lucky enough to visit the glass studio opposite the (closed) Museum of Art. It was free, and we felt so fortunate. We spent almost a full morning there, watching several extremely talented glass artists create big glass fish for a commission from the children's hospital. We had warm, cozy front row seats to every stage of the amazing process. We even got to catch the noon guided demonstration of glassworking, which added detail to what we'd already seen with the fish-creation, and showed us several other properties of molten glass that my children and I had never seen before. Amazing and such fun!
